Hurricane Deductible

• This is a separate deductible from the all other perils deductible

• A percentage of the dwelling or structure limits• 2% is the most common

• 1% offered by some companies; 5% and 10%

• You may be able to obtain a flat dollar amount deductible

• Applies to named hurricanes in a single season (calendar year)• If insured with same company/group a second hurricane deductible is the

greater of:

• a) remaining deductible balance from first hurricane; OR

• b) the all other perils deductible listed on policy

Covered Lanai (Cage)

• Every company has different coverage for lanais

• Most companies only insure to replace the metal cage; no screens

• Determine if cage is replaced at full replacement cost or actual cash

value (ACV)

Flood Insurance

• The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) policies have a 30-

day waiting period before they go into effect

• NFIP coverage for 1-4 family residential buildings is maxed out at

$250,000, and content coverage is limited to $100,000

• The $250,000 is at replacement cost

• The $100,000 is at actual cash value

• Consider an excess flood insurance policy

when constructing your property and

casualty insurance coverage

Casualties of Hurricanes

88 Percent of U.S. Deaths From

Hurricanes & Tropical Storms Are From

WATER, Not Wind

Inland flooding has claimed the most hurricane deaths in the

continental U.S. – even far more lives than storm surge, strong winds or tornadoes.

WebinarFlood Zones

THE UGLY TRUTHEveryone home is in a Flood Zone ...

it is just a difference of risk for each zone.

➢ Nearly 75% of the homes damaged by Hurricane Harvey were OUTSIDE

the federally regulated flood plain

➢ Flood risk is defined by law, NOT NATURE

➢ 100-year flood elevation

➢ 1 percent chance of flooding in any given year

OR

➢ one-in-four chance of a flood occurring at least once during the life of

a 30-year mortgage.

➢ CLIMATE CHANGE
