POSTAGE ANGELS WANTED

The Vocations Committee is looking for 35 “Postage Angels” who would fund the

$7.25 mailing of one “back to school packet” to one seminarian. Donations may be

put in white envelopes marked “seminarian postage angels” and may be turned

into the parish office or placed in the collection basket. Any amount over our goal

will be used to buy stamps for the seminarians. Thank you for your support.

HEALTH & WELLNESS MINISTRY

Calling all senior parishioners: Join us for our first Health and Wellness speaker’s

bureau presentation before daily Mass on Wednesday, Sept. 26 at 10am in the

Tepeyac Room at SJD. Sara Santilli —parishioner and geriatric nurse practitioner —

will speak on “Staying Healthy after 60: Physically, Socially and Spiritually”.

Jesus Christ is the true Bread of Life. In the midst of sometimes corrupt people, even corrupt church

leaders as we have seen in the national news, Jesus calls us to draw close to the one who is the source

of life. When we receive the Bread of Life, it must call us to greater holiness. Who does not want to hide

their sins? Who among us does not wish we could change things about our sinful tendencies? I was just

renewing my Call to Protect training, and that very day several people asked me about the scandals in

the church. It is difficult to explain what is unfathomable, using a position of authority to prey on another

person. I have always striven to do my best to protect others, to lift up those who have been hurt, and it is

what I expect of all who minister at St. Mary’s and St Juan Diego. What I do know is that Jesus in the Holy

Eucharist is the one who calls us to live the holiness we encounter in Jesus the Bread of Life. He is the

One who is holy, He is the One who is good, He is the source of life and hope. He is Jesus the Messiah.

YOU CAN BE AN RE TEACHER OR ASSISTANT

We have many openings for Teachers (Catechists) & assistants (18 years & older).

SPECIAL EDUCATION FOR RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

St. Mary's welcomes and includes children with disabilities into its Religious Education program.

Contact: Debbie Sheahan at 480.963.3207 x123 or [email protected]

• We work with families and catechists to provide religious education, including sacrament preparation,

to children with all types of disabilities and of all ages. Support provided is based on the needs of the

child and ranges from accommodations in a typical class to small-sized special education classes to

1-on-1 instruction. Please call or email for more information and to get started registering your child for

Religious Education in the Fall.

• We need VOLUNTEERS to help provide a positive faith experience for children with special needs.

Opportunities include acting as an aide for a child in a typical RE class, helping in a small RE class designed for

children with developmental disabilities, being available as a substitute aide, and prepping materials. Experience is not

necessary but helpful. This can also be a great opportunity for a responsible high school student who needs service

hours or for someone exploring a career in disability services. Training provided. Please call or email if interested.

THE ASSUMPTION

The graces of Jesus’ redemption are outside of time and space. Mary

is conceived without original sin. In the feast of the Assumption, we

celebrate the result of that reality! Mary’s soul and body are not separated

at the moment of death, nor does her body decay. She is brought up,

body and soul, into Heaven. Even in apostolic times, no religious site has

claimed the actual body of Mary. Considering the Church’s enthusiasm for

relics, this is a startling fact! After Christianity became legal in the Roman

Empire, the site of her empty tomb became a place of local pilgrimage. On

this feast, we remember that just as Jesus has taken care of His mother,

He will take care of us!

know anyone you would like to honor, simply send their picture,

¿Quién no quiere esconder
