FR30 Emulator Setup Instructions

This manual shows how to setup the FR30 Emulator (MB2197) system. Follow theseinstructions step by step in order to install both hardware and software componentsof the entire system properly. As a target system, the Starterkit_FR is used.

1. What you’ll need

The following components are nessesary for this installation :

ü MB2197-01 FR30 Emulator Main Unitü MB2197-10 FR30 DSU-Cable (included in MB2197-01)ü MB2197-102 QFP-100 Adapter Stack (for FR30-Starterkit) 1

ü MB91V101CR FR30 Eva-Chip BGA 135-pinü Starterkit_FR FR30 Starterkit with QFP-socket (remove mounted MB91101)ü RS232-Cable, 12.5MHz crystal, Power lead, Power supply for Starterkitü IBM compatible PC with Windows 3.1x or higher and a CD-ROM driveü Fujitsu Micro CD-ROM V3 or higher

1 SQFP-Adapter MB2197-101 also available


2. Software Installation

Install „Softune Workbench for FR“ (Version V30L10R01) from the CD-ROM. Afterexecuting Setup.exe you will find a menu with install-options. Select all items and start theinstallation. The default-path will be C:\Softune.

After the installation you will find Softune Workbench ready to use for the MB91101 series.Also, a demo-project (C:\Softune\Sample\FR30Demo) and some additional Starterkit-tools(C:\Softune\FMG_UTIL) will be installed.

3. Hardware Setup of Targetsystem

To use the FR30-Starterkit as a target system, follow these steps to mount the adapter :

a) Open the QFP-100 Socket carefully using a screwdriver and remove the MB91101PFb) Place the lower part of the QFP adapter-stack MB2197-102 onto the socket and

secure it using the provided screws.

¢ NOTE : There are two differentsockets types available. If you use thesocket with the two center-screws asshown in the picture, be sure to use theappropriate screws (M2.5 totallength=12mm). QFP-Sockets with thecorner-screws will need four M2 screws,total length=13mm (included in MB2197-102).

c) Insert the evaluation chip (BGA 135-pin type) in the socket of the upper half of theadapter stack. The u-marking should be on the left side (next to the jumpers). Theninsert the 12.5 MHz crystal into the positions on the left-hand side of the SC2-socket.Be sure the three jumpers are in the followingpositions : 1=AB 2=AB 3=BC. After that, insert theupper part of the adapter carefully on top of thelower part, which is already fixed on the board.The target system is now prepared to beconnected to the emulator debugging unit.


4. Hardware Setup of Emulator

This section describes the setup procedure of the FR30 Emulator hardware :

a) Main Unit : Connect the RS232-cable (DB25-sideÙMB2197-01; DB9ÙPC COM-port )and the power-cable (220V) For a LAN-connection (optional) refer to the manual.

b) DSU (Debug Support Unit) : Insert the blue connecter towards the main unit and securethe clips.

c) Connect DSU to Target System : Open the DSU connector on both sides, insert the flatcable (gold contacts upwards) and close the connector tightly.


5. Initialization

a) Turn on the Main Unit (MB2197-01), then power up the target system (be sure the AC-adapter is set to 7.5 V and + is on the shield Ù see manual of Starterkit_FR). Afterpowering up the target system, always press the blue “user” reset-button on theStarterkit to make sure the SRAMs are accessable. On the Main Unit, “Power” and“Ready” should light up now :

b) Select “Monitor Loader” from the Start-menu. Select the “20DSU2.HEX”-monitor file(library-directory) and click on Start to download the file to the MB2197-01. Note : Thishas to be done only once.

c) The Emulator System is now ready to use. Execute “Softune Workbench” and load anobject file (e.g. C:\Softune\Sample\FR30Demo\FR30Demo.ABS) to test the system.

Once the system is installed, use the described power-up sequence (5a) any time thesystem is being used. The settings described in (5b) and (5c) need not to be executedeverytime.


6. Trouble shooting

Problem Solution“Communication Error”occurs while trying to

…start the emulator software…download the monitor-file

Check the RS232-Connections :* Is the COM-port set correctly (Note :0=COM1, 1=COM2 etc.) ? Are the two plugsinserted correctly ? Be sure that no otherprogram on your PC uses the Com-port youselected !* Press the Reset-Button on the back of theMB2197-01 or restart the entire system (see 5a,b,c).* Check the QFP-adapter stack ! If the lowerpart is not set correctly into the socket, thiscan cause problems which lead to acommunication error message !

“Verify Error at xxxxxx”occurs while trying todownload a program to the target system

The evaluation Chip could not write data orcode in the region which was specified in theABS-file !* If you use the Starterkit, press the blue“user” reset button to make sure the SRAMsare available

“Invalid install file”occurs while trying to start theemulator software

The install file “.INS” could not be found.* See 5b to create this file, also check thelocation (should be in FETOOL\BIN)

“Invalid emulator monitor program”occurs while trying to start theemulator software

The settings in the “.INS”-file are incorrect* Review section 5

For other error messages, please refer to the FR30 Emulator Debugger Manual. Thedocumentation for the emulator system is included on the CD-ROM.
