(1796-1867 )

Francesco Carlo Boffo was neoclassical architect who designed more than 30 buildings in Odessa, including the famous Potemkin Stairs. He served as Odessa's chief architect between 1822 and 1844. His patrons included Prince Vorontsov and his wife, Elisabeth Branicka. The Potocki, Shidlovsky, and Vorontsov Palaces in Odessa were built to his designs, as was the Royal Palace near Bershad (1817). The latter is famed for its uncanny resemblance to the White House.

Georgis Torricelli (1800—1843 )

In 1826, after being educated, came to

Odessa from Lugano (Switzerland) and worked in Odessa next 17 years of his life, made the architectural plan of Odessa (1826).

In 1832, he became the winner of construction projects for merchants’ exchange market.

Torricelli also built Sabaneyev Bridge and made many other construction projects in Odessa.

Alexander Bernardazzi

(1831 - 1907 )

Alexander Bernardazzi built many office buildings in Odessa.

In 1879 Bernardazzi becomes a major city architect of Odessa. So he constructed many various public buildings.

In honor of the 50th anniversary of architectural activity of A. Bernardazzi in 1900 at the entrance to the stock exchange was placed a bronze bust.

Francisco Frapolli

(? — 1819)

Francisco Frapolli built his own house that is Frapolli Hotel now.

He took part in the constructing of Kherson, and Alexander Avenue and the main market square of the town. He constructed a building which used to be a bakery, and now is a medical school.

Greek Avenue is also partly constructed by this architect.

Giovanni Frapolli

(? — 1827)

Giovanni Frapolli decorated Privoz square, Constructed an extension to the City Hospital

on the Khersonskaya street. Giovanni also made a construction plan for Libman House. He was killed by robbers in 1827. There is a

small monument in his honor at the Old Christian graveyard in front of his grave.
