Grading and Attendance Grading: The district will return to a variation of our pre-pandemic grading policy, though some adjustments to the weights of different components (formative and summative assessments, participation, homework, and classwork) are being considered for this time.
Formative Assessments: These are built into the curriculum, are more frequent, and are used to monitor a student’s mastery based on the scope and sequence of curriculum and individualized learning. Summative Assessments: These assess mastery of the complete set of grade-level standards
70% 50%: Formative 20%: Summative
16 1425 E. Fort Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21230
Classwork: The written or oral work done in a classroom by a student (Homework: An assignment given to a student to be completed outside the regular class period is now chunked in Classwork). Participation: The active engagement of students expressing their ideas in a way that others can understand, their understanding of a topic.
30%: The evaluation of this component can be determined in both asynchronous and
synchronous learning environment.
15% Classwork 15% Participation
Attendance ● Attendance is mandatory and expected. ● Teachers will enter attendance into Infinite Campus on a daily basis ● Attendance will be taken at the start of the day by the homeroom teacher. Attendance will be reviewed
again after lunch to ensure students return virtually and are accounted for. In the event a student does not return in the afternoon, the student should be recorded as attending school as a half day and contact made with the home to ensure the student is safe.
● Based on participation in virtual platforms, submission of assignments, other evidence of engagement in learning on a given virtual day.
● Based on presence in class on in-person days during hybrid learning ● Students who are not present will be marked absent and every effort will be made to find, support,
and re-engage them ● There will be a campaign to promote daily attendance through communications and community
outreach with attendance outreach to students not engaged daily. Excused and Unexcused Absences In Maryland, an absence is considered excused once the parent or guardian provides a note explaining that it was due to one of these reasons:
● Death in the immediate family (a parent note is acceptable) ● Illness (a parent note is acceptable for an illness up to three days; a doctor's note is required for
illnesses lasting longer than three days) ● Court summons (the student's name must appear on the summons) ● Hazardous weather conditions (a parent note is acceptable) ● Observance of a religious holiday (a parent note is acceptable)
In addition, absences for these reasons are considered excused and do not require documentation:
● School-approved activities or work ● Suspension ● Lack of authorized school transportation ● District- or school-wide closings due to inclement weather or other emergency conditions
As is the case during a typical school-year, parents are to submit a note of absence to the school secretary. This year, we are asking parents to email notes to Ms. Jones at [email protected]
17 1425 E. Fort Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21230
Equity in Virtual Learning:
● Prioritizing device and materials distribution to students in need ● Virtual Small Group Instruction with Data-based decision making to target students in need of
extra support● Additional teacher support to tutor/support students in need outside of school hours ● Partnership with Northbay to send 10 students to a Residential School experience on their campus ● Potential Early Hybrid Model used to target students in need to off-set expected learning gaps* ● FSK is open to providing Study Hall hours for student engagement and support*
*Safety, COVID Trends, and approval from City Schools is essential*
