Setting up your quizzes involves four phases:• Creating a New Quiz

• Creating Questions in the Question Library

• Adding Questions to Created Quizzes (without randomizing)

• Adding Questions to Creating Quizzes (randomizing)

Let’s Get Started…• Click on Quizzes on bottom navigation bar

Click on New Quiz

Complete the Properties screen for your new quiz and Save.

Practice Quiz 1

Add grade item now

If appropriate, check “auto grade” box

Click on Restrictions screen, add dates/times, & display in calendar, if desired.

Also check Security Options boxes for Respondus LockDown Browser if you are requiring its use.

To allow multiple attempts, click on Attempts, select options from 2 pull-down menus, & Save Quiz.

Click on Submission Views tab. If the Default View that appears says “Show Questions? No,” students will not be able to review their quiz later. To allow, click on Default View.

Under View Details, click options you want & then Save View.

Creating Quiz Questions in Question Library

Click on Question Library at top. To organize questions within the library, pull down to

Create New Section, click GO, & name it. Examples: “Quiz 2, 2007” or “Quiz 2, Long Answers” or “Quiz 2, Multiple Choice & T/F.” (Note: If you’ll be randomizing questions, keep questions of same point value together in same section.)

Click Save. Your new section appears in the library:

Note: Although it’s possible to create questions directly in a quiz, it’s a good idea to create all questions in the Question Library, especially if you want them to be randomized in quizzes.

To add questions to this section of the library (Quiz 2, 2007), click on it.

Let’s practice creating a T/F question, so pull down to Create New T/F Question. Click Go.

Fill in title, point value, and question:

Scroll down and select correct answer. Click Save.

Now this question (Mines) appears under this section of your library.

To add other types of questions, pull down the menu to the type you want. Click Go. Fill in the title, points, and questions as you did above for T/F.

For Multiple Choice questions, scroll down to the Value/Weight section and fill in choices and correct answer(s) with appropriate weight. Example….

Click Save (or Preview it first).

Adding Questions to Created Quizzes(Without Randomizing Them)

Get back to your quiz by clicking on its link under Quizzes. Click on Layout/Questions and then on Add/Edit Questions. Click on Import. Complete…

Click Save.

Adding Questions to Created Quizzes(Randomizing Them)

Get back to your quiz by clicking on its link under Quizzes. Click on Layout/Questions and then on Add/Edit Questions. Select Random Section on pull down menu. Click Go.

Give the Random Section a name, e.g. “Random 1.” Click Save. You’ll see a little purple folder next to Random 1. Click on that. Click on Import. Fill in source/destination info. Click Save.

Now indicate how many of the questions you want randomly picked. (It may be all of them.) Enter point value. Click Save.

Double check by going back to your quiz’s Layout/Questions.

Before next time, practice creating quizzes with various kinds of questions.

Try adding a Survey in much the same manner you added a quiz. Begin by clicking on Survey:

The Dropbox holds assignments in separate folders for online submission by students, faculty review/grading, and return to students:

To create a new assignment, click on Dropbox.

Click on New Folder.

Complete the Folder Properties info:

Click SAVE.

To grade Dropbox assignments:

Click on Dropbox & then click on link to assignment you want to grade.

A Folder Submission page will appear with links to student submissions. (Initially they’ll appear with “Leave Feedback.” Those copied below are already

graded.) To download all for grading, check box at left and then click download icon.

Download zipped assignments to your hard disk, extract each, and mark up as desired (using Track Changes, for ex.). Save each.

To upload graded work back into D2L for student review and entry into gradebook, click on Dropbox and on link to assignment you’re grading.

Click on “Leave Feedback” next to student’s name.

Complete the Feedback screen, add the graded file for the student, & enter points.

Click SAVE.

To set up your grade book: Click on Grades on lower navigation bar

• Before setting up the Grade Wizard for your class, click on Grade Schemes at left to see the various grading schemes from which you can choose later (in the Grade Wizard). Or--you can create your own new scheme by clicking on “New” and filling in ranges you want.

•To add a new grade item:

• Click on Manage Grades.

• Then click on New Item.

Under New Item:

Select the Grade Item Type you wish (Numeric, Pass Fail, etc.). Complete the Properties screen for your grade item, especially the “General”

and “Grading” areas. Click Save. Now when you go back to Manage Grades, you’ll see this new Grade Item has

been added.

Grades can be entered a couple of ways:• Automatically when students take quizzes or when

you enter grades for dropbox assignments or for discussion board posts

• Manually by clicking on Enter Grades under Grades and clicking on icon under name of assignment.
