Welcome We are looking forward to meeting you when you arrive at Fraser so that we can help and support you. Here you will find some information about the service that may help you when you arrive.

What is Fraser? Fraser is a eight bedded unit offering inpatient assessment, treatment and education. It is a part of the Children and Young People Specialist service at Ferndene and is an open unit.

Where is it? Fraser is in the countryside in a town called Prudhoe, Northumberland near Newcastle upon Tyne. Who is it for? Young people with Mild Moderate Learning Disability and other mental health problems, aged from 13 to 18 years. During your stay During your stay with us you will receive the right support and help. Staff from Fraser will help you get the right treatment to get better.

What sorts of things can I do at Fraser? You will have the chance to take part in a structured programme and a variety of activities such as art, pottery, cookery, Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme, horticulture, conservation projects, sports and leisure with games rooms including pool as well as visiting many places of interests.

Education Newcastle Bridges School provide the education at Fraser and Ferndene. There is both small group and individual teaching by teachers and learning support staff. Subjects covered include: Numeracy Literacy ICT PSD Design Technology PE Art, Music & Drama

Will I be able to see my family? The nurses will arrange for your family to visit you. Who will be helping me with my treatment? There are many people at Fraser that can help you. The staff will get to know you first then you will be able to take part in a wide range of opportunities on your own or work as part of a group with other young people. You will be involved in sessions where you will be asked about your understandings and needs - this is called assessment. You will then be involved in treatment sessions where you will learn new ways to help you cope and be more independent and safe. This will be with Doctors, Psychologists, Teachers, Occupational Therapists, Creative Arts Therapists, Nurses, Social Workers and Speech and Language Therapists.

What am I allowed in my room? You can have your TV, DVD player and games console in your room and any personal belongings you want to bring that could make your stay more pleasant.

How long will I be here? Where will I go when I leave? You will be here until your treatment is finished; the doctor and the team will then help to decide where you will go next, keeping you informed on a regular basis. Activities you can be involved with There are lots of activities that you can be involved with: these can be part of your treatment, your education or things you may be interested in. Some can be sporting and leisure activities which will be designed to meet your needs, we often will need permission for some of them from your parents/carers.
