With the Easter holidays over and the ‘delights’ of home schooling beginning again, it’s just possible you may feel the need to turn to a glass of wine to help put things in perspective. This week’s selection includes two wines from Domaine Lafouge, both exemplify why we love this small, family run domaine in Auxey Duresses. The les Hautes Blanc is beautifully crafted white burgundy which you might mistake for a far grander Meursault were you to be served it blind. The Bourgogne rouge is just perfectly pitched Pinot Noir: juicy fruit, perfectly balanced and with a lovely purity and defi nition. I must also point out the superb Barbaresco 2017, la Ca Nova. While 2017 may seem a little young, this is such an elegant and restrained wine that it is diffi cult resist now but will also reward a few years in the cellar.

Fresh green apple fruit with a touch of peach and citrus lemon peel note on the nose. It is aged in 100% stainless steel which gives it a great freshness and energy. LV

Attractive aromas of green orchard fruit, white fl owers and pastry cream, the 2017 Auxey-Duresses Les Hautés is medium-bodied, crisp and juicy, with lovely purity of fruit and an open-knit but succulent profi le. If the Boutonniers is the more serious of Lafouge's two white Auxeys, this Hautés will win friends in the near-term. robertparker.com

Notes of hazelnut, pear compote, acacia blossom and tangerine peel introduce gorgeously textured medium weight fl avors that possess a highly seductive mouth feel before culminating in a notably fi ne, complex and impeccably well-balanced fi nale. The medium-bodied 2016 Cotes du Rhone off ers hints of red raspberries, cherries and black olives. A blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre, it's fresh and appealing, with light tannins and a crisp fi nish. robertparker.com

Bourgogne Rouge Cote d’or 2017, Domaine Lafouge
The Lafouge family’s 2017 Bourgogne rouge is a very good example, off ering up a bright bouquet of cherries, quince, a fi ne base of soil, woodsmoke and a gentle topnote of roses. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, nicely soil-driven and tangy, with a solid core and just a bit of ripe tannin perking up the quite long fi nish. These vines are directly across the RN-74 from the vines of the Château de Pommard as one enters into Pommard from Beaune. Good juice. LV

The 2017 looks to be another sensational example of this wine. Sourced just outside the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, it's full-bodied yet silky and long, with standout aromas of lavender and crushed stone backed by layers of cherry and berry fruit. robertparker.com

Barbaresco 2017, La Ca Nova
The nose is very seductive with red cherries and wild strawberry but balanced, bright and lifted. There are ripe red fruits on the palate with a wonderful concentration, glycerol, tannin are wonderfully integrated and ripe, fi nish is saline and moreish. LV

Vina Ardanza Riserva 2010, la Rioja Alta
The wine is expressive, aromatic, very elegant and clean, with classical Rioja aromas of long aging in barrel and slow oxidation through the years in wood. The palate is polished and sleek but shows plenty of energy, with very fi ne, mostly resolved tannins and very good harmony and persistence. There is great complexity, and you could start smelling spice and smoke to move to earthy tones, hints of beef blood, cherries in liqueur, curry, diesel, old furniture and forest fl oor.
