Free Epilepsy Detection & Treatment Camp-44 Rural Hospital, Pachod, Aurangabad 18

The team of 35 led by Dr. Nirmal Surya, Founder Trustee & Chairman, Epilepsy Foundation camp. The

camp started at 9.00am with the CME lecture by Dr. Makarand Kanjalkar (Neurologist, Aurangabad),

Dr. Pandurang Wattamwar (Neurologist, Aurangabad), Dr. Nirmal Surya (Founder Trustee &

Chairman, Epilepsy Foundation) & Dr. Sanjeev Saoji (IMA President, Aurangabad) in presence of

Dr. R. T. Chavan (Dy. Director, A’bad), Dr. N. J. Rathod (Sr. Consultant, PPP, NHM), Dr. G. M.

Gaikwad (Civil Surgeon, A’bad), Dr. B. T. Jamadar (DHO, A’bad), Dr. Vivek Khatgaonkar (DRCHO,

A’bad), Dr. V. C. Bhatkar (RMO, Civil Hospital, A’bad) & Dr. Dayanand Motipawale (Medical

Superintendent, Rural Hospital, Pachod). The CME is Accreditated by MMC for 2 Credit points.

The camp was inaugurated with lighting of Lamp by Shri. Sandipanji Bhumre (MLA, Pithan), Dr.

Nirmal Surya, Dr. Makarand Kanjalkar, Dr. R. T. Chavan, Dr. N. J. Rathod, Dr. G. M. Gaikwad, Dr. B. T.

Jamadar, Dr. Vivek Khatgaonkar, Dr. V. C. Bhatkar & Dr. Dayanand Motipawale

The Patients had come from nearby villages & districts. A total of 340 patients suffering from Epilepsy

were examined by the team of doctors. Among the patients were students from various schools in

and around Aurangabad accompanied by their teachers & School Health Workers as well as local

people.

An EEG room was set up with 4 EEG Machines by 4 EEG technicians. A total of 42 EEGs were done.

Every Patient’s data was recorded for future reference and follow up. A Team consisting of a Clinical

Psychologist, Two Physiotherapist, Three Occupational Therapists & Two Speech Therapists from

Mumbai were also present to evaluate & treat patients. They treated 97 Patients overall. (CP= 14,

PT= 21, OT= 40 & ST= 22). Therapeutic Drug Monitoring of 05 patients was carried out with the help

of N M Centre, Mumbai. Neurophysiologist Dr. Cheryl De Sousa performed BERA on 12 children

patients and they were all Abnormal.

The street play was performed at 4 places namely, Rural Hospital, Bus Depot, Market & Pachod

Chowk. It evoked a great response from all onlookers.

Epilepsy Foundation has arranged for 95 patients 3 months free medicine with the help of various

Pharma Companies (Intas, Novartis, Sun, Sanofi & USV).

The Camp ended at 5.00pm & the team departed for Mumbai with great satisfaction.
