Are You Ready For Some Football??

On Friday, October 2, 2015, the fifth grade class from rotation day 1, 3 & 5 (The Green Giants)

will challenge day 2, 4 & 6 (The Orange Crush) fifth graders in the Annual Michael Griffin Super

Bowl. The event will take place on the east field near the kindergarten drop off at 9:00 A.M.

until 10:30 A.M. There will be two games; a girl’s game immediately followed by a boy’s game.

To make this event a fun experience for all intermediate grades, we are asking 3rd and 4th

grades classes to come and cheer for the 5th graders. We need for the 3rd and 4th grade classes

to be in place by 8:45 am.

There will be a 3rd grade cheer section on the north side of the field and a 4th grade cheer

section on the south side. If the kiddo’s have them, we would love to see all of our students

wearing school spirit wear, football team shirts/jerseys’ or cheerleading uniforms.

**Due to space limitations, we are inviting only 5th grade parents and family members to

attend. Please check in at the front office.

This has been a very exciting and action-packed unit. This special event gives us the

opportunity to THANK these students for a JOB WELL DONE.

Thank you for your support. We hope to see you there!

Page 4: Free P.E. begins · 2015-09-29 · When the museum’s Amazonian shrunken head is stolen, the four are determined to get it back. ut their search leads them to a series of murders

The book is about, among other things: the strongest boy in the world, a talking cockatoo, a faulty mind reader, a beautiful

bearded lady and a nervous magician, an old museum, and a shrunken head.

Blessed with extraordinary abilities, orphans Philippa, Sam, and Thomas have grown up happily in Dumfrey’s Dime Museum of

Freaks, Oddities, and Wonders. But when a fourth child, Max, a knife-thrower, joins the group, it sets off an unforgettable chain

of events.

When the museum’s Amazonian shrunken head is stolen, the four are determined to get it back. But their search leads them to a

series of murders and an explosive secret about their pasts. This sensational new series combines the unparalleled storytelling

gifts of Lauren Oliver with the rich knowledge of the notorious relics collector H. C. Chester.

Grades 3-5 On October 1st, Lauren Oliver, and her father (disguised as an English pro-

fessor) will be entertaining our students in grades 3-5. Any student may

purchase an autographed book. A student must purchase the book if they

want to participate in the book club, however.

Here is how the book club will work for those who want to participate: On Tuesday, Sept. 29th, book club members will

meet in the library and listen to me read the first few chapters of the advance copy that I have. Book club members get

front row seats to the author presentation on October 1st. Then, after autographed books are handed out on October 1st,

students will have two weeks to complete the rest of the book on their own. We will meet before school for our Donut

Discussion at 7:30 AM on Thursday, October 15th. I will bring donuts. You bring your own drink.

Thanks, Blue Willow Bookshop!

FREE PE PROGRAM

PURPOSE:

To reward good work, good sportsmanship, and collect Box Tops for Education which are used

as our main fundraiser.

WHEN:

Free PE will begin on Tuesday, October 6, 2015, during the last 20 minutes of our planning

period. Free PE will be on TUESDAY ONLY. We will alternate grade levels as follows:

Schedule: Week A: KG, 1st & 2nd (3:10-3:30pm)

Week B: 3rd, 4th, & 5th (3:10-3:30pm)

HOW:

Students collect “points” (or tickets, coupons, etc.) by exhibiting positive behavior (good work,

sportsmanship, being a leader, good choices, etc.) or bringing in Box Tops for Education.

Different denominations (1’s, 5’s, and 10’s) of points are given. For Box Tops, we give a point for

each one brought in; one for one. Behavior points are usually 5’s or 10’s. Students must collect

10 points before they are eligible.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

Classroom teachers decide which students can participate. Each classroom may send up to four

(4) students at a time (once they have collected 10 points). However, the students must have all

class work completed, have proper PE attire (shoes), and have no other ongoing behavioral

issues.

PROCEDURE:

When the students come into the gym, there are different types of equipment put out that

they can play with at will. We play music and also play with the kids, but usually there are no

organized games so the kids can pick and choose what they want to do. However, our PE rules

are always in effect, so no roughhousing, etc. is allowed. At 3:30 pm, students clean up and

return to their class room for dismissal.
