FREE Strategy Games Club

Open: To all chess players (grade 3+) rated 500+ (CFC, CMA or NWSRS) who have played in a
Knightmare Quads or Woodpushers’ Challenge event & their parents. Entry Fee: FREE!
Sessions: Round 1 at 1:45pm & Round 2 at about 3pm & finish by 4:15pm. Each session will start with a
10-minute instruction period follow by a 60-minute playing period. Players will play 2 different games.
Format: Small groups will have 3-4 juniors plus an adult. Adult, if a parent, may choose to be a helper for
his/her own child or play on his/her own. The adult will generally act as banker and referee. Prizes: Top
junior in each game will receive a special 2010 Olympic Coca-Cola collector’s pin.
Equipment: All board games will be provided by the organizer. Tentative list of games to be played:
Beginner Games: Catan Junior, Splendor possibly Wacky Wacky West (same author as Catan)
Intermediate Games: Portobello Market & Carcasonne
Advanced Games: Catan: Basic & Merchants of Europe
Parental Supervision: Parents of players in grade 3 or below MUST remain in room throughout event to
provide support/consolation to child. Parents of all other players who plan to pick up their children should
return to the site by 4:15pm. By the players’ participation in the event, parents/ guardians, whether on-site
or off-site, release the organizers, officials & other volunteers from any claims, damages or liabilities
arising from participation in the event.
Registration: No registrations on site. All players must pre-register by emailing Henry Chiu at
[email protected] with following info by the Thursday before selected event: Child’s name, grade,
city, school, accompanying parent’s name & cell phone number. Please also indicate which knowledge
group player would be in (i.e. Beginner (<5 strategy games), Intermediate (5-9 games) or Advanced (10+))
and also which of above listed games had the child played before. If parent plan to participate, please
advise experience of above listed games. All players must check in at site before 1:45pm. Late arrivals
will be considered no-shows and may not be paired for event.
Withdrawals & No-Shows: Pre-registered players may withdraw by 9pm, the Friday before event with no
penalties. Withdrawals after deadline and during event must be for medical reasons only. All other
withdrawals and no-shows may not be permitted to register in next eligible Knightmare or Strategy Games
event on first offense. Subsequent offenses may not be permitted to register for next two eligible events.
