The word for heart in Arabic is qalb; the root ofit is qalaba -- to turn, to revolve unattached.

This means it is not desirous or expectant, orattached to any direction; it turns freely.

In our society we often equate detachmentwith irresponsibility. But correct behaviour isbased on inner detachment accompaniedby outer attachment and adherence to thelaws of nature. Not keeping to these laws will

cause us only affliction. Even if we do notpay for our mistakes when we commit them,we will eventually reap the fruits of ouractions.

We must recognize our bond with Reality /

Allah; we must see that we are totallyconnected and that there is no separation.You and I appear to be different because ofour outer physical differences, but inwardly

we are the same. It is this sameness thatconnects the entire race of mankind.

If we do not understand this we will continueto look for a quick formula to resolve our

difficulties because this is the age of instantsolutions.

We are now suffering from its side-effects:instant wealth, instant happiness, and instant

friendship. How can friendship in the truesense grow instantaneously? That could onlyhappen if it is based on the ultimatefoundation which is the love and knowledgeof Truth. Then we will find everyone inharmony because there will be true innercourtesy, not merely outer courtesy.

The truth is always there, yet we haveinadvertently been seeking false truth, in thename of convenience or economicprogress or whatever reason motivates us.

If we do not act in accordance with the lawsthat govern existence, we will pay a great

price. We will eventually suffer from ourmistakes individually and collectively. It isinevitable, for every action has an equaland opposite reaction. The more we see thisfact and the more we live in the present, themore we experience timelessness and themoment touches the infinite. At this point we

are exposed to the knowledge of Realityand the system that constitutes it; so werecognize wisdom in Reality's diversity andunity in its infinite Oneness.

When people experience this sense oftimelessness, beyond expression, they arecommonly said to be 'awakened' or'realized'. All of us have the potential to seeeverything as it is but if we do not want this

knowledge, we will end up gatheringworthless information instead. If we are notschooled in the outer, how can we trainourselves in the inner? We cannot start the

inward journey unless we begin with theouter. The inner moves outward and theouter ends up containing the inner.

We begin by wanting the truth and

end up by being aware andtotally responsible. This correctness

is not subject to religiosity, but

rather to the divine laws.
