    CONVERTIBLEREFRIGERATOR/FREEZERUSE

In order to ensure proper temperature, you need to permit airflowbetween the lower and upper sections. As shown in the illustration, the majority of the cold air enters the lower compartment throughvents behind the lower control box, flows through the lower sectionand is recirculated through the opening in the top of the lowercompartment. The rest of the cold air enters the upper compartmentthrough the vent in the upper control box, then flows through theupper section and is recirculated through the rear wall.

    3. Stand the convertible refrigerator/freezer upright.

    4. Replace the base grille by placing the metal clips in the openingsin the metal panel and rolling the grille downward until it snapsinto place.

    5. Unlock the wheels and move the convertible refrigerator/freezerinto its desired location.

    6. After the convertible refrigerator/freezer is in position, lock thewheels.

    7. Plug in convertible refrigerator/freezer or reconnect power.

Your new convertible refrigerator/freezer may make sounds that yourold one didn't make. Because the sounds are new to you, you mightbe concerned about them. Most of the new sounds are normal. Hardsurfaces, such as the floor, walls, and cabinets, can make the soundsseem louder. The following describes the kinds of sounds and whatmay be making them.• Your convertible refrigerator/freezer is designed to run efficiently,

to keep your food items at the desired temperatures and tominimize energy usage. The high efficiency compressor and fansmay cause your convertible refrigerator/freezer to run longer thanyour old one. You may also hear a pulsating or high-pitchedsound from the compressor or fans adjusting to optimizeperformance.

    • Your convertible refrigerator/freezer will sound louder thanregular refrigerators. This is due to the high fan speed. Thisspeed is necessary to keep the convertible refrigerator/freezeroperating properly in the harsher environments of most garages.

    • You may hear a hissing noise after you close the lowercompartment door. This is due to the colder temperature of thelower compartment and the stronger seal on the door.

    • You may hear the evaporator fan motor circulating air through theupper and lower compartments. The fan speed may increase asyou open the doors or add warm food.

    • Rattling noises may come from the flow of refrigerant or itemsstored on top of the convertible refrigerator/freezer.

    • Water dripping on the defrost heater during a defrost cycle maycause a sizzling sound.

    • As each cycle ends, you may hear a gurgling sound due to therefrigerant flowing in your convertible refrigerator/freezer.

    • Contraction and expansion of the inside walls may cause apopping noise.

    • You may hear air being forced over the condenser by thecondenser fan.

    • You may hear water running into the drain pan during the defrostcycle.

Do not block any of these vents with food packages. If the vents areblocked, airflow will be prevented and temperature and moistureproblems may occur.

IMPORTANT: Because air circulates between both sections, anyodors formed in one section will transfer to the other. You mustthoroughly clean both sections to eliminate odors. To prevent odortransfer and drying out of food, wrap or cover foods tightly.

For your convenience, your convertible refrigerator/freezer controlsare preset at the factory with the upper compartment set inrefrigeration mode and the lower compartment controls set at themidpoint. When you first install your convertible refrigerator/freezer,make sure that the controls are still preset to the factory settings.

    Upper Compartment Control

The upper compartment of your convertible refrigerator/freezer canfunction as either a refrigerator or a freezer. The control in the uppercompartment allows you to switch it from Refrigerator Mode toFreeze mode. Make sure that the correct mode for your storagerequirement is selected.Your convertible refrigerator/freezer is designed for use in the garage. If the upper compartment is set to Freeze, your usual setting for thelower compartment should be adequate for most summer or winterconditions. Under extreme summer or winter conditions, you mayneed to make minor adjustments to the upper compartment controlin order to maintain the desired temperature in the uppercompartment.

  • To Change the Upper Compartment to Freeze Mode:

    • Turn the control all the way to FREEZE.Freeze

IMPORTANT: If the control is set between FREEZE and COLDESTsettings, the upper compartment may not operate in the desiredmode. The control should be set all the way to FREEZE to functionproperly as a freezer, or in the range between COLD and COLDESTto function properly as a refrigerator.

    Lower Compartment Control

The lower compartment functions as a freezer at all times. Thecontrol in the lower compartment controls the temperature in thelower compartment and the temperature in the upper compartmentwhen the upper compartment is in Freeze mode.

NOTE: To turn your convertible refrigerator/freezer off, turn the lowercompartment control to the word OFF and the upper compartment toFREEZE. Your convertible refrigerator/freezer will not cool when thelower compartment control is set to OFR

    IMPORTANT:

    • When the upper compartment is in refrigeration mode, thetemperature is controlled by the upper control. When it is infreeze mode, the temperature is controlled by the lowercompartment control.

    • Give your convertible refrigerator/freezer time to cool downcompletely before adding food. It is best to wait 24 hours beforeyou put food into the convertible refrigerator/freezer.

    • If you add food before the convertible refrigerator/freezer hascooled completely, your food may spoil. Adjusting the Lower andUpper Compartment Controls to a colder than recommendedsetting will not cool the compartments any faster.

    Adjusting Controls

The settings indicated in the previous section should be correct fornormal household usage. The controls are set correctly when milk orjuice is as cold as you like and when ice cream is firm.If the temperature is too warm or too cold in the lower or uppercompartment, first check the air vents to be sure they are notblocked.

If you need to adjust temperatures, use the settings listed in the chartbelow as a guide. Wait at least 24 hours between adjustments andthen recheck the temperatures.

    Use nonflammabme cleanero

Failure to do so can result in death, expmosion, or fire.

Both the lower and upper compartments defrost automatically. However, clean both sections about once a month to prevent odorsfrom building up. Wipe up spills immediately.

If the power will be out for 24 hours or less, keep both compartmentdoors closed to help food stay cold and frozen.

If the power will be out for more than 24 hours, do one of thefollowing:• Remove all frozen food and store it in a frozen food locker.

    • Place 2 Ibs (907 g) of dry ice in the convertible refrigerator/freezerfor every cubic foot (28 L) of freezer space. This will keep thefood frozen for 2 to 4 days.

    • If neither a food locker nor dry ice is available, consume or canperishable food at once.

REMEMBER= A full freezer stays cold longer than a partially filledone. A freezer full of meat stays cold longer than a freezer full ofbaked goods. If you see that food contains ice crystals, it may berefrezen, although the quality and flavor may be affected. If thecondition of the food is poor, dispose of it.
