n a harmonious balance of light and dark, interior designer Jennifer Corredor

transformed this 21st-floor penthouse in Bal Harbour with a sophisticated

selection of classic and contemporary styles. From the foyer wall exquisitely

embellished with mother-of-pearl, to the powder room bathed in marble, to the

master bath clad in onyx, luxurious materials create backdrops for sleek yet

inviting Italian furnishings throughout.“I wanted a place that was totally different

from my New York house of 20 years, which is more traditional,” the husband says.

“But I also wanted it to be comfortable.”

Corredor’s elegant design satisfies, evoking a fresh look that is both current and

enduring. “I tried to incorporate a transitional feel to the project,” she says. “My

intention was to introduce a light and airy feeling, without being too modern.”

“I like to respect thespaces that I’m workingwith, so my style usually

has a light and serenefeeling,” interior designer

Jennifer Corredor says.Selecting an ambiance is

an important decision,according to Corredor’s

Corredor achieved the owners’ desired look by redesigning a pre-existing apart-

ment that had been demolished and overseeing the completion of construction

and installation — giving the couple turnkey service in time for them to enjoy the

holidays together in their South Florida retreat.

Corredor’s approach juxtaposes clean lines with dimensional elements, evident

in the living area’s Persian rug and custom-designed tufted-leather cocktail table

that center contemporary sofas and smooth cabinetry. A palette that contrasts

neutral tones with dark woods — splashed by colorful accessories and artwork —

anchors this space and defines the rest of the penthouse. “Exotic woods, such as

African mahogany, anigre and cherry, add substance and character,” she says.

This interplay of light and dark resonates in the kitchen, where white Caesar

stone countertops break up the expanse of ebonized wenge-wood cabinetry.

sharpen the soft curves of the guest bedroom, while pleated wall covering and an

area rug bordered in leather piping bring texture to the master bedroom.

Inspirational panoramas of the Atlantic Ocean round out the serenity of this

contemporary Miami retreat. “The ocean is part of the apartment’s landscape,”

Corredor says, allowing the endless horizon to permeate her design.
