At various points throughout orientation there will be canned soda provided. When you are finished, please give your soda tabs to any of the Orientation Leaders, so we can all aid a great cause. ORIENTATION DETAILSFreshmen Schedule, Day 18-9:15 AM STUDENT, PARENT & FAMILY MEMBER CHECK-IN (JSAC Ballroom): When you arrive on

campus, your first step will be to check in with the orientation team. If you have not yet made your orientation payment, please do so at this time. Additionally, Academic Admissions will be available to assist with any documents you may still need to provide. If you are staying overnight with us, please be prepared to check your luggage, pillow, and any other items you have brought for the next two days in our luggage checkroom.

8-9:15 AM STUDENT LUGGAGE CHECK (JSAC Hardy Meeting Room): All students staying overnight will bring their luggage to this location and leave it here during the first day. Students will gather up all luggage prior to traveling to the housing facilities for the evening’s activities.

8-9:30 AM WALK DOWN JAGUAR LANE & LIGHT CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST (Maxwell Theatre): There will be various offices, departments and resources represented in this open mingling fair for students, parents, family members, and supporters alike to enjoy and gain first hand information from our academic entities and student support services. Those in attendance will be available to answer any questions about what they have to offer and provide more information about how to further get involved. A light continental breakfast is provided as part of our opening as well.

9:30-10:10 AM WELCOME TO GEORGIA REGENTS UNIVERSITY (Maxwell Theatre): Students, parents, family members and supporters will be welcomed to the university by members of our university administration and orientation staff. There will be an overview of the events for the next two days, concluding with a special welcome from the 2015 Orientation Leader student staff.

10:10 AM STUDENT Departure: Students will leave the parents, family members, and supporters to attend their first small group meeting. Only students are to leave for small groups.

10:15-11 AM Open Arms: Small Group Meeting 1 (Various Locations): Members of your student orientation staff will meet with you in a small group. Assignments are on your nametag. Your leader will get the group excited about your next two days, lead a review of the orientation schedule, and discuss other important elements as part of your transition to Georgia Regents University.*Session is MANDATORY. Your leader will be taking attendance.

10:15-11 AM PARENT & FAMILY MEMBER PROGRAM OVERVIEW: I’ll Be Alright Without You (Maxwell Theatre): An administrator from the Division of Enrollment and Student Affairs will review the orientation schedule in depth and answer any questions your parents, family members, and supporters may have. We hope this will provide more comfort about our processes and what you and your students will be doing throughout the next two days.

This session provides you with beneficial advice on helping not only your student make a successful tradition to college life, but also assists in ensuring you have an educated journey as a parent, family member, and supporter.

11:10-11:40 AM Financial Aid, Bursar & HCCU (Maxwell Theatre): This session will provide you with valuable information in regards to financial aid, scholarships, loans, tuition, fees, and accounts available through our on-campus credit union. 1:20-2:35 PM Being a Responsible Jaguar (Maxwell Theatre): During this session, representatives from various departments will discuss the expectations of student behavior, the realities of college life, and how alcohol, drugs, and relationship violence affect the GRU family. We want our students to make appropriate choices and reduce harmful outcomes. This session intends to inform you about your rights and responsibilities as a college student and also provide you with valuable information regarding additional resources that are available to GRU students. Additionally, we hope this will spark a healthy conversation between students and their parents, family members, and supporters prior to starting the full-time journey into college.*Session is MANDATORY. Your leader will be taking attendance.

Some topics covered will include basic housing information, timelines, costs, and amenities.

Off-Campus Living (University Hall 170): During this session, parents, family members, and supporters will receive the opportunity to ask questions and gain information about the off- campus experience at Georgia Regents University. Some topics covered will include how to support their students and the Georgia Regents University experience.

3:20-3:45 PM HOUSING & RESIDENCE LIFE:Interested in Housing? (University Hall 250): During this session, students will receive the opportunity to ask questions and gain information about the on-campus experience at Georgia Regents University. Some topics covered will include basic information, timelines, and the benefits of living on-campus. Further, students will learn about the housing application process and receive the opportunity to complete the application during this session.

On-Campus Living (University Hall 170): During this session, students will receive the opportunity to ask questions and gain information about the on-campus experience at Georgia Regents University. Some topics covered will include basic housing information, timelines, and the benefits of living on campus.

Off-Campus Living (JSAC Coffeehouse): During this session, students will receive the opportunity to ask questions and gain information about the off-campus experience at Georgia Regents University. Some topics covered will include getting involved on campus and having a memorable experience at Georgia Regents University.

3:20-3:45 PM ASK THE EXPERTS: Orientation Leader Panel (Maxwell Theatre): Do you have questions about our university? Do you want to hear about the REAL GRU experience? During this session, representatives from your 2015 Orientation Leader student staff will help put your mind at ease. This open student panel will allow the staff to answer YOUR questions as one of the many steps to leaving your student here at GRU. No question should go unanswered!

3:55-4:20 PM WHO’S RUNNING THE ZOO? (JSAC Ballroom): Do you know what type of animal you are? How do you deal with conflict? What kind of team member are you in group settings? During this extremely popular session, Career Services will use an interactive activity to introduce you to yourself and show who’s running the zoo.*Session is MANDATORY. Your leader will be taking attendance.

3:45-4:20 PM BE PART OF THE JOURNEY: Presentation & Ice Cream Social (Maxwell Theatre): You are a vital part of their student’s experience in college. GRU recognizes the importance of this connection – as a regular visitor to campus, a supporter of their student’s academic career and personal goals, and a caring parent or family member. The Parent and Family Connections program serves as the primary link between parents, families, and the university community.

4:30-5 PM ACADEMIC COLLEGE MEETINGS (See Back of Program): This is your opportunity to meet with representatives from your academic college. During this time, you will be able to discuss the types of courses you need for your degree, the hours and credits it takes to graduate or be admitted to further degree programs, and the special features of your academic colleges that sets them apart from the rest.

5:05-5:30 PM It’s NOT Just The Same Way (Maxwell Theatre): Academic Advisement has implemented new travel guides to help navigate the academic pathway at GRU. Career Services provides career and professional development resources to complement that trail. Students must create their own paths, but these two offices are important partners in the journey to success.*Session is MANDATORY. Your leader will be taking attendance.

5:05-5:35 PM PROFESSIONAL SCHOLARS ACADEMIC ADVISEMENT MEETING (JSAC Ballroom): Representatives from the Professional Scholars Program will be discussing the academic advisement for the prescribed curriculum and program requirements to matriculate to the College of Dental Medicine or Medical College of Georgia. *This session is only provided on June 15, July 13, & August 11, 2015.

5:35 PM PARENT & FAMILY MEMBER DAY COMPLETE: At this point the parent, family members, and supporters are free to leave as your obligations for the first day are complete. Please say goodbye to your student until tomorrow, and enjoy a relaxing evening at your overnight residence.

Prepare for the second day by reviewing the Campus Networking sessions listed on tomorrow’s part of the schedule. We look forward to seeing you at breakfast in the morning!

5:35-5:55 PM STUDENT LUGGAGE CHECK (JSAC Hardy Meeting Room): If you are staying overnight with us and have not checked your luggage, pillow, and any other items you have brought for the day in our luggage checkroom, this is the time to complete this task. After this point, students staying overnight will either no longer have a vehicle on campus because their guests are leaving or will not have time to go back to their cars.

5:35-6:55 PM COOKOUT with STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS (The Grove): Do you want to get involved on campus? The answer should be YES! Please join our student organizations for a social, mix and mingle opportunity. Meet with different organization representatives and learn about what their organizations have to offer and how to get involved with those you are interested in for your first semester. There will be food and drinks offered, so this is something you do not want to miss.

7-7:30 PM I CHOSE... GRU (Maxwell Theatre): The “I Chose Campaign” is a new initiative the university adopted to connect students to the Georgia Regents University institution and community. The 2015 Orientation Leaders believe that coming to college is one of the largest milestones someone can face. It is a process that provides education, growth, and change in all students who fully immerse themselves in the collegiate experience. College is a journey that you chose to start here at GRU. This journey starts here, at orientation. During this session, the 2015 Orientation Leaders will express why choosing GRU is the best decision they made, what they value from this special experience, and why it should be important to you. *Session is MANDATORY. Your leader will be taking attendance.

7:30-8:15 PM Open Arms: Small Group Meeting 3 (Various Locations): This will be the final opportunity to meet with your small group. During this time, you will discuss everything you have covered thus far, mainly focusing on selecting why YOU Chose… GRU!*Session is MANDATORY. Your leader will be taking attendance.

Freshmen Schedule, Day 27:45 AM ROOM CHECK-OUT & LOAD BUSES: Students who stayed overnight at University Village will

gather their luggage, return their room keys and load the buses to head back to Summerville Campus for the second day of orientation activities.

8:15-9 AM WELCOME to the CITY of AUGUSTA, GEORGIA & GRAB & GO BREAKFAST (JSAC Breezeway & Ballroom): Members of the Augusta community will be present to offer information about the city, resources, and materials for the students, parents, family members, and supporters. A small grab and go breakfast will be provided with quick items you can eat while mingling before the formal sessions of the day begin.

9-9:20 AM Stay Awhile in the CITY of AUGUSTA, GEORGIA (JSAC Breezeway & Ballroom): Listen to members of Community Relations and representatives of the orientation student staff team speak about the City of Augusta and what there is to experience.

9:35-9:55 AM Wheel in the Sky: Parking, Food, Books & JagCard’s AUXILIARY SERVICES (Maxwell Theatre): Life at GRU is exciting and engaging. Learn about the pieces needed for a student’s survival while starting their journey at Georgia Regents University. Learn about everything from parking and transportation, to purchasing textbooks or lab materials. Of course, students need to eat, too. Learn what our meal plans encompass, how you purchase them and then how the JagCard provides access to everything on campus.

9:55 AM STUDENT Departure: Students will leave the parents, family members and supporters to attend a student only session. There will be limited connectivity between students, parents, family members and supporters for the rest of the second day.

8:15-9:15 PM Why Can’t This Night Go On Forever: VARIOUS ACTIVITIES (Summerville Campus): Please join your orientation student staff for various activities, including but not limited to our campus Ghost Tours, Game Night in our Reese Library, and activities in our game room. This is all before we wrap up for the evening. Non-overnight students are required to stay throughout this last session.

9:15-9:45 PM STUDENT DAY COMPLETE: At this point the on-campus portion of the student day is complete. Those students who are not staying overnight in the university housing facility are free to leave. Those staying overnight will begin getting on the buses with the orientation student staff and travel to University Village for the Late Night Activities.

10-11 PM Why Can’t This Night Go On Forever: VARIOUS ACTIVITIES & REFRESHMENTS & SNACKS (University Village): Please enjoy the various activities planned by our orientation student staff and other campus representatives. There are also various refreshments and snacks sponsored by Student Health and The Student Wellness Council.

10-10:55 AM *ONLY Student Small Groups: Trip, Expedition, Odyssey & ScavengerBe Good to Yourself: Desire 2 Learn (Galloway Hall): During this session students will confirm that all technical aspects of changing passwords and logging-in are complete, followed by an introduction to the “Jaguar Nation Welcome” Desire 2 Learn Module. This is an important resource that will show students how to access various materials online. The student orientation staff will also go over other information including the navigation of all JagNet components to be a successful student, including JagMail, Desire to Learn, POUNCE, Career Link, and Jaguar Community.

Learn about the HONORS PROGRAM (Quad Wall Building): The Honors Program session will cover all elements of the curriculum, from core courses through the Honors Thesis, and how this curriculum can help prepare high-achieving students both for challenging careers and for graduate and professional study. 2:30 PM BIOLOGY PLACEMENT EXAM (Galloway Hall): Incoming freshmen intending to major in a field of Biological Science or Health Science, which includes Pre-Biology, Pre-Ecology, Pre-Cell and Molecular Biology, and Pre-Nursing Majors are required to take a short placement exam to help determine the appropriate Biology course each student will enroll.
