AS WE LOOK BACK WITH REVERENCE, WE LOOK AHEAD WITH EXCITEMENT...

Hello friends! Welcome to the 51st Annual Summer Arts Festival. We made it! Can you feel the excitement?

This year, as we look to the past for the wisdom of those who began our beloved Summer Arts Festival, we’re moved by the commitment to living a creative life that those f irst few artists demonstrated as they laid plans for what would turn into an annual event for our community. The tradition of Summer Arts Festival is truly one of Douglas County’s greatest treasures.

Fifty one years ago, there was only one food vendor and a few local artists. Today, in 2019, we celebrate our annual community arts Festival with over a hundred artist vendors, more than a dozen culinary experiences, two stages of local creative acts, over 150 volunteers and our community of festival goers- more than 8,000 of you come to hang out with us over the weekend each summer!

This gem of a community event would absolutely not be possible without the attention of many dedicated volunteers who show up to help create the Summer Arts Festival experience. Many of the folks that volunteer for the Festival have been on the team over 25 years! UVAA provides multiple opportunities for creative expression in our community. One of these opportunities, the Summer Arts Festival, brings our community together for a weekend to celebrate and appreciate creativity in each of us.

After the festival, come see us for art exhibits, classes, workshops, kid’s art programs like Art Express and art camp for kids! Membership at UVAA offers even more wonderful benef its to explore and express your individual creativity.

As we move forward from this festival, we are excited about the future for UVAA. In 2021, the Association will celebrate its own golden anniversary. Won’t you join us around the table as we plan the next part of our legacy? Check our website for exciting upcoming events and your opportunity to join our volunteer team! www.uvarts.com

HOW ARTISTS WERE CHOSEN

“The extraordinary artwork which graces the Festival is the result of a careful evaluation process. Artist applications are reviewed by three jurors who assess the images submitted by the artists along with an artist statement. During this process the artists remain anonymous to the jury.

Jurors take into consideration quality of works and overall presentation. After much discussion, the individual scores are tallied and the top scores in each catagory receive an invitation to show in the Festival. CONGRATULATIONS to all the Artists accepted into this year’s 51st Annual Summer Arts Festival!”

IT TAKES A VILLAGE

It is such a privilege to be a part of a tradition that makes this the 51st Annual Summer Arts Festival! It’s a tribute to the creative spirit, which is inherently human. Not reserved for artists only, creativity can take many forms of expression.

None of this is possible without the efforts of an incredible volunteer force which begins with the UVAA Board of Directors: Emily Brandt, Nancy Lehrbach, Betti Manfre, Juliete Palenshus, Lisa Redcay, Delores Spencer, Betty Tam, and Gary Waugeman

|THANK YOU| Delores Spencer is chair of the Arts Festival Committee. She is joined by committee members

Doug Holloway, Dick Worthey, and UVAA Staff: Jeneen Hartley, Sandee McGee, Renee Richardson, and Amanda Walters. Renee Couture, Betti Manfre and Clare Matthews juried this year’s art vendor submissions. Thank you’s to Sarah Holborow for all of her expertise in getting the word out for UVAA and to Sandee McGee for creating this guide.

And then.. there are the 150+ Festival volunteers without whom none of this could happen. THANK YOU FOR YOUR COMMITTMENT, YOUR KINDNESS AND CARE. And THANK YOU to our sponsors, whose support emphasizes the collaborative spirit of an event that is a true celebration of community and creativity.

Our sponsors recognize the importance of supporting the arts and traditional in our community. They have chosen to invest hard earnings to sponsor the Summer Arts

Festival. We’re grateful to have their support year after year and to partner with them in bringing the Summer Arts Festival to our community.

IT TAKES A VILLAGE“THIS EVENT IS MADE POSSIBLE BY MAJOR COMMUNITY SUPPORT OF THE ARTS. THERE

ARE SO MANY WHO DESERVE OUR GRATITUDE AND APPRECIATION.. .THIS IS JUST THE

BEGINNING.THANK YOU!” (ABOVE IMAGE: OUR FOUNDERS)
