Hailed as one of the most captivating and encompassing pieces of contemporary theatre, the play shocks, challenges and moves all who watch it as it reveals the lowest depths of hatred and greatest heights of compassion that lies within all human beings in any seemingly average community. Please note that this performance is not suitable for young children.

Carey Variety ConcertA note from our Performing Arts Captain, Hamish Payne:There exists an old adage that goes; ‘Variety is the spice of life’. As I’ve learnt from several hours of Jamie Oliver’s five minute meals played on repeat in my mother’s kitchen, spices aren’t just coloured powders but different by which we can make our somewhat dull pallet of everyday boiled potatoes more scintillating; more liveable. Spice may arrive in our life in many different guises; as getting blonde highlights and a fringe; as unexplained PTV maintenance works; as the neighbours dog and a stray possum having a street fight outside your window. My experience tells me, however, that these may be a little too hot - a little too heavy on the Sichuan pepper. So how could one experience variety in a less stressful manner than the way in which life chooses to nefariously surprise us? Carey’s variety

Babes in the Wood by Geoff Bamber After their parents mysteriously disappear, Lizzy, Tizzy and Clementine Merryweather are left in the care of the villainous Lemuel Viper. Viper has his sights set on the family fortune but he cannot get his hands on that while the children are alive. He hatches a plot to have the girls done to death in Spooky Wood but the ineptitude of the hired killers, the interference of a posse of belligerent elves and the appearance a rather sinister old lady ensure that his plans do not run smoothly. Babes in the Wood is a rollicking and very silly melodrama.

The Laramie Project by Moisés KaufmanIn October 1998 in the middle of the prairie outside Laramie, Wyoming, Matthew Shepard, a 21 year old student at the University of Wyoming, was brutally murdered for being gay.The hate crime attracted vast attention worldwide, bringing sexual discrimination and violence to the forefront of public discourse. The Tectonic Theatre Project, led by their founder Moisés Kaufman, traveled to Laramie in the aftermath of the murder with the intent of creating a theatrical portrait of a town coming to grips with horrible, hate-fueled violence. Over the course of a year and a half, the group interviewed over 200 subjects, some directly related to the case and some regular citizens of Laramie. Out of these interviews, journal entries and
night will offer a refreshing medium of variety which can be equated to the ‘medium’ level of Eldo Pasa salsa. Extraordinary acts will appear in an evening of talent and charity, ranging from stand up to soulful ballads. What’s more, this charitable event will give us the opportunity to lend a little variety to those who deserve it as the event will be hosted in association with the Make a Wish and Carasa Foundations. I can personally assure you, this event will be a night well spent, especially in lieu another one of Jamie’s inquests to Italy on ABC.

Beauty and the Beast JR.Based on the original Broadway production that ran for over thirteen years and was nominated for nine Tony Awards, and the Academy Award-winning motion picture, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast JR. is a fantastic adaptation of the story of transformation and tolerance. Disney’s Beauty and the Beast JR. features some of the most popular songs ever written by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman, along with new songs by Mr. Menken and Tim Rice. The classic story tells of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed to his former self. But time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity.
