Dear Parents and Community Members,
Congratula ons to all students who represented South and the Gunnedah PSSA Zone at the Regional Swimming trials in Armidale on Monday. Reports from the day were highly posi ve and I was excep onally pleased to hear that our students cheered on their peers with much gusto. The achievement of compe ng at this level is winning in itself and it is impressive the number of students who will be represen ng our school and the North West at State level later in the year. A big thank you to Mrs Lush from Mullaley who looked a er all students from our school and Gunnedah Zone.
Premiers Priority ‐ Closing the Educa onal Gap ‐ Targeted Aboriginal Students A ernoon at South
Thank you to all of our targeted Aboriginal students in Years 4, 5 and 6 who a ended an inspira onal a ernoon at Gunnedah South with their families. The clear highlight of the a ernoon was Zoe Fleming sharing her view with our students on the importance of trying hard and ge ng good results in everything that you do.
I par cularly enjoyed watching our students invi ng Mr Young our Educa onal Director to join in with a game of cricket ‐ who knew he could bowl? (It is the first me in my career that I have seen a Director of Educa on, roll up their sleeves and join in with sport with such enthusiasm). Overall, a great a ernoon and a great chance for families to link with teachers, execu ve staff and learn about our highly valued and involved Instruc onal leader Mrs Meleah Walters. A special thank you to all who help especially our BBQ team and catering teams.
Advice of Classroom Teacher Change & Congratula ons Miss Bianca Small
Earlier this week I wrote to all parents of 2S and advised them that Miss Bianca Small was successful in a aining a new posi on at GS Kidd Memorial School. During Term 1 Mrs Tiffany Moyo was contracted to teach our 2S class. As a result of sudden reduced school staffing alloca ons in 2019,
we subsequently will be u lising Ms Therese Bunce as the class teacher for the remainder of the year.
The class will be known as 2B from the beginning of Term 2. For more informa on, please don’t hesitate to contact me at school.
Important Reminder & Special Request
I kindly please ask that parents remember not to smoke near our school entrances or near our fence on Winder Place. If you have further concerns please report to the right place:
Your coopera on and though ulness is greatly appreciated.
Important Reminder & Special Request
Today was the 2nd day of our Namoi Partner Schools Spor ng Program. This spor ng program allows students from Mullaley, Carroll PS, Gunnedah PS and Gunnedah South PS in Kindergarten through to Year 6 the opportunity to par cipate in a wide range of spor ng opportuni es. From the sports and loca ons that I was able to visit, it was great to see students out engaging in physical ac vity, making friends, new experiences, and generally enjoying themselves. This has made the program a success overall. I look forward to con nuing this program throughout the remainder of the year and into the next.
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank students who are making an effort to wear black schools shoes on Monday through to Thursday. Please don’t forget to encourage your child/ren to bring and wear their school hat every day so they can play in all areas of our playground.
Have a fantas c weekend,
Mr B.

Yarn Up with Mrs Walters
Gunnedah South has a unique initiative in our school where a Deputy
Principal Instructional Leader has been allocated to work with classroom teachers and executive through the State Literacy & Numeracy Strategy.
On Monday evening we invited families of targeted students to come and learn about the initiative. We enjoyed a game of cricket and touch footy.
At Gunnedah South we pride ourselves on developing strong partnerships
between home and school. It was a wonderful meet and greet and we look forward to continuing these meaningful connections to ensure our students
Division in the kitchen– Divide dough into even groups (share equally with everyone in your group)
Check to see how accurately you divided the dough by weighing each portion.
Thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers who have come in to help with cooking! We appreciate the help you give the children (and Mrs Stanger and Mrs Sams)
TELL THEM FROM ME SURVEYS
I am delighted that this term, our school, like many other public schools in the state, will par ci‐pate in a Department of Educa on ini a ve: the Tell Them From Me student feedback survey. The survey measures factors that are known to affect academic achievement and other student outcomes. The focus of the NSW‐wide survey is on student wellbeing, engagement and effec‐ve teaching prac ces.
More informa on about the survey is available at: h p://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au
The survey is a great opportunity for our students to provide us with valuable and quick feed‐back on what they think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with them. More than 6,300 schools in Australia and around the world have used Tell Them From Me to survey 5.4 million students. Capturing the voices of our students will help improve how we do things at our school.
I want to assure you that the survey is confiden al. The survey is conducted online and will typ‐ically take less than 30 minutes to complete. It will be administered during school hours be‐tween 11 March and 12 April. Par cipa ng in the survey is en rely voluntary.
A consent form and FAQs for parents/carers about the survey is being sent home with students.
If you do not want your child or children to par cipate, please return the form to school by Fri‐
day 15th March 2019. Copies of the form and FAQs are available from: h p://
surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/informa on‐for‐parents.
