A fierce, swinging homage to Charles Mingus, late bass master, with an electrified ensemble. Fusing Mingus’ compositions with his own masterful style, Veasley and the band give a multidimen-sional performance that integrates percussion, sound effects and recordings of Mingus’ voice.

FRIDAY, APRIL 21Poetry Reading with Amy Small-McKinney, Montgomery County Poet Laureate and Yolanda Wisher, Philadelphia Poet Laureate n 7:30 PM OrangeryAmy Small-McKinney is the author of Life is Perfect and two chapbooks of poetry, Body of Surrender and Clear Moon. She is founder of the program, Finding Our Voices: Poetry & Resilience, using poetry to help others, particularly those struggling with mental health, to find their voices. Yolanda Wisher is a multidisciplinary poet and educator. She is the author of Monk Eats an Afro (Hanging Loose Press, 2014) and the co-editor of Peace is a Haiku Song (City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program, 2013). As an English teacher at Germantown Friends School, Wisher founded and directed the Germantown Poetry Festival (2006–2010).

Enjoy Structures & Stories, our interactive exhibition for all ages that investigates artists’ books in expressive and unique structures—from traditional scroll, accordion and codex, to pop-up, tunnel and carousel books. Three dozen culturally diverse artists, many of national stature, exhibit more than 70 works that are sculptural and kinetic excursions into printmaking, photography, collage and papermaking.
