The Ballston Spa United Meth-odist Church's free lunch this month will be on December 21, 11:30-1 pm. BSUMC will hold their annual Roast Beef Dinner on Saturday De-cember 7 in the Fellowship Room from 4- 6:30 pm. The family-style dinner consists of roast beef, mashed potatoes with gravy, green beans, butternut squash, rolls, pie and a bev-erage. Cost: Adults $11, Children (4-12) $5 and under 4 years free. Take-outs available. There will also be a bake sale of homemade goodies. Come and enjoy the food and hospi-tality!

The Adirondack Trust Company has been named the top active Small Community Bank Lender in the Capi-tal Region for a record thirteen straight years and in the 34-county Syracuse District for seven consecu-tive years. Small Business Admini-stration Syracuse District Director Bernard J. Paprocki recently an-nounced that in the category for Small Community Bank Lenders, The

Adirondack Trust Company was the most active lender (number of loans originated) in the Capital Region for the fiscal year ending September 30th, 2013. For thirteen straight years, The Adirondack Trust Com-pany outperformed all other SBA 7(a) small community bank lenders in this region. The Adirondack Trust Company approved 31 loans worth $1.6 million to Capital Region startup and existing small busi-nesses. The SBA Capital region cov-ers the following counties: Albany, Clinton, Columbia, Essex, Greene, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, Warren, and Washington.

It has been a very eventful couple of months for Steve and Cheryl Springer. On October 12th, their daughter Stephanie married John Jorden in a beautiful ceremony in Napa, California. And on November 7th, they became first time grandpar-ents when their other daughter, Lindsay Selmont and her husband Doug welcomed Harper Eliza-beth into the world. Congratula-tions to all!

Sunmark Federal Credit Union was named one of the Best Places to Work for 2013 by the Albany Busi-ness Review. This is the ninth time that Sunmark has received this honor. Winners were broken down into five categories based on number of employees. Sunmark was recog-nized in the “176 employees and more” category. Sunmark is one of 30 Capital District companies that will be celebrated at a December lunch-eon and in a special publication that explores each company’s best prac-tices. The results of the anonymous employee surveys were compiled by the research firm, Quantum Work-place of Omaha, Nebraska. More than 120 companies signed up to par-ticipate in the contest. Also in Sun-mark news, Lisa Totaro, content manager, was named a Credit Union Rock Star by Credit Union Magazine. In honor of International Credit Un-ion Day (October 17), Credit Union Magazine published a special bonus issue dedicated to credit union rock stars, “ordinary people who are doing the extraordinary.” Totaro is one of 48 rock stars from a cross-section of credit unions, leagues, and related organizations who were nominated by subscribers. Glassworks Studio, the hot-glass teaching facility of the National Bot-tle Museum, is pleased to announce that noted glass artist Sally Prasch is returning to do a “Holiday Orna-ment For Any & All” workshop on De-cember 14, 2013. Sally is currently the scientific glassblower for Syracuse University, and continues to teach worldwide, splitting her time between her home in Massachusetts and Syra-cuse. At 49 Front Street in Ballston Spa, the holidays are a special time of year. The Saratoga Bridges consumers who take art classes at the Creative Endeavors Arts Center on Front Street have been making holiday items since months before the season, often starting to work on the items in late summer and early fall.

Saratoga Bridges first moved to Front Street in 2004 when a group of artists called the Backroom Artists started taking classed there. Not long after that, The Strolling Village Artisans opened its first store there and Saratoga Bridges became a member of the artist co-op. In 2007 the co-op moved to 20 Washington Street in Ballston Spa and we opened the Creative Endeavors Gift Shop and Arts Center at our Front Street location. Our talented artists design and create an assortment of beautiful items year round.

The holidays are a busy and exciting time for everyone. Creative Endeavors participates in First Fridays in Ballston Spa and we have a variety of beautiful and practical ideals for gifts in our store. After celebrating at the annual Christmas parade on December 6th, stop by our shop to do some holiday shopping. We have handmade cards, ornaments, art work, wood crafts, candles, soaps and bath salts, pillows, cat and dog accessories, wooden toys, scarves and bags just to name a few of the available gifts.

We also offer a selection of gently used closing in our Executive Closet Consign-ment Shop at the Arts Center. The Executive Closet was created to provide people looking for a job the opportunity to find interview attire that will ensure a good first impres-sion. Available are men and women’s business suits, designer pocketbooks, dress slacks, shirts and blouses in a wide variety of sizes.

Our store hours are 10 am to 5 pm Monday thru Friday. The store will be open 11 am to 3 pm on November 30th as part of Shop Small Business Saturday. The BSBPA is pleased to announce that the Grand Marshal

for our annual Holiday Parade will be a very beloved home-

town boy, Lucas DeFabio. The parade will be held Friday

evening, December 6th as part of Ballston Spa's Holiday

Weekend celebration.

Five-year-old Lucas, the son of Daniel and Tina DeFabio, was

born with a fatal genetic disorder, Menkes Disease, in which the body does not metabolize copper. The

disease primarily affects infant boys, and must be caught very early in life to have any effective treat-

ment. Most Menkes boys are not diagnosed in time. November was Menkes Awareness Month and

Luke and his family want to bring that awareness to the community to help others be diagnosed and

treated in time. Luke is a child with a bright, easy smile and infectious laugh, who personifies the pure

joy that is much sought during the holiday season and we are proud to have him lead our parade. He

will be joined by his parents and younger brother, Alex. Come on out on December 6th and cheer on

Luke and his family!

Sandwich boards are a great way to direct customers to your business. Several of our downtown shops and restaurants have these boards on display at corners and on sidewalks.

Ideally, the boards should be removed each evening when your business closes and set up the next day. With the impending winter weather, the Ballston Spa DPW is also asking that businesses bring their signs in when the forecast calls for measurable snow. The snowplows will often end up burying the boards left on the sidewalks and the DPW does not have the manpower to keep digging them out. The buried boards may also cause a hazard to pedestrians and may become damaged, which could bring about the need for replacement (and its cost) to the business. Thank you for your cooperation!

The Ballston Spa Business & Professional Association, in part-

and one non-profit organization whose renovation, restoration

and beautification efforts have enhanced Ballston Spa over the

past year. The winners were chosen from nominations submitted by others

in the community. At a reception on November 18th at First Presbyterian

Church, each award recipient was given a framed certificate with a before

and after photograph of their property, along with a Curtis Lumber gift

card. The presentations were made by BSBPA board member and Beauti-

fication Chairperson Michelle Burlingame and Curtis Lumber representa-

cal fire companies, Union and Eagle Matt Lee, will

again be donating and cooking delicious pancakes

and sausage. We will have a craft table, where

every child can make a craft and take it home

courtesy of McDonald’s of Ballston Spa, a reading

corner, where each child receives a book courtesy

of Red Dragon Karate School, and face painting

courtesy of Mangino Chevrolet Buick GMC. Santa

and Mrs. Claus will be there for picture taking,

and toy giving! We will have entertainment in-

cluding the BSMS Launching Pad Cast, The Capital

Region Language Center carolers, Red Dragon Ka-

rate School and the Wild Acres Irish Dancers.

All this for only $5.00—reservations are not nec-

essary. Proceeds go back into the community for

family events and village beautification. A per-

centage of the proceeds from the breakfast will

go to support the youth programs at St. Mary’s

Parish.
