TRANSCRIPT
This year at our 40th Anniversary School Fair, we are
aiming to become a Zero Waste fair and to educate
visitors and our school community into this practice. We
need your help to make this happen.
The intention of Zero Waste is to eliminate all discharges
to land, water or air that are a threat to planetary,
human, animal or plant health. The intention is to stop
polluting our world.
Instead of putting all of our waste into a rubbish bin that end ups in landfill (polluting the land, air and ocean) we
choose to REDUCE waste, REUSE products rather than discard them and RECYCLE.
During the Fair we will have SEVEN Zero Waste stations around the school.
Each station will have Three Bins:
• Organic Bin: For food scraps and compostable packaging
• Recycle Bin: For Glass, plastic with the recycle signs, paper
• Rubbish: It cannot be reused or recycled and goes to landfill (our aim is
Zero rubbish)
During the Fair;
• C7 and C8 community will be responsible for having people stand by the
bins and instruct patrons what goes in what bin
• C10 community along with Chris Farley will be responsible for collecting the designated rubbish bags
After the fair:
• The materials on the organic bin will be composted to create soil for the land (how cool is that?)
• The food waste from the cafes are going to feed rescue chickens from the run Hope Rescue in South Auckland.
(Thanks Diana and Claire for this)
• Clean Event (the company that is supporting us) will collect & take off site and make sure that our waste gets
recycle and composted.
How can you help?
• For classes working in food preparation, put your food waste in the bins that Claire will provide and you must
separate the recycle from rubbish.
• Pass the voice around our intention, and why we are doing it
• Spend some time at the stations and support visitor to put their waste in the correct bin.
• Start this intention at home.
Thanks for your support!

Kia ora tatou
Only one sleep to go. This week, and in
particular over the last 48 hours, the
school has been a hive of activity in
preparation for the fair. The collective
effort that allows the Fair to be so
successful is a hallmark of our school. My thanks to all those
that have given so generously and freely and their time, energy
and expertise.
Earlier in the year we had a resident eurythmyst working with
the lower school for a very successful intensive three-week
period. Next year we will again welcome Mynda Mansfield back
to our school for two four-week (term 1 and term 3) blocks.
As in any organisation we have a cyclical review of policy and
procedures. This week we spent some time looking at the
procedure around our school as a smoke-free campus. As a
result, this has been updated to reflect changes in society and
now also covers vaping, vaping products and e-cigarettes.
Finally, it is with sadness that I pass on the news that our lower
school Deputy Principal, Donna Bainbridge, has decided to
pursue new challenges from 2020. Donna will leave Michael
Park at the end of this academic year.
Over the past three years Donna has had a lasting impact on
our community and many individuals within it. We will be
working together over the coming weeks to ensure that this
work is consolidated and passed on for the next year and
beyond.
I know you will all join me in wishing Donna the very best for
her new adventures.
See you at the Fair tomorrow. Look out for the annual
appearance of the tall pirate with the questionable accent!

BOUGHT CONFECTIONERY AT CLASS MARKETS
Healthy eating options are not only preferred in our school but
are necessary for the health and well-being of our students.
The additives and colourings that are prevalent in shop bought
sweets are not indicative for optimum health.
We would therefore ask our parent community to kindly desist
from providing these items for Class Markets and Class Lunch
Bars.
Wholesome home-made nutritious items are our favoured food
items; when we are raising money for class funds. If you could
please support the school around our Healthy Eating guidelines
this would be very much appreciated.
