From Pastor Bob

Pastor Bob

According to the late Lyle Schaller, who was a

church growth expert, there are three primary

reasons visitors return to a congregation after a

first-time visit. Those three reasons are: friendliness

of the congregation (41%), the over-all worship

experience (30%), and the quality of the sermon

(29%). Because the friendliness of a congregation is

a significant factor in a visitor’s return, we need to be

friendlier to visitors. Recently, I learned that 70%

of Disney’s first-time visitors return. Disney has

discovered that if a first-time visitor does not

experience friendliness as their first and last

experience, they will not return. Disney now has a

Vice-President of parking lots! The next time you see

a visitor in worship, please go up to them and say

something like, “Hi my name is Joe/Mary…I don’t

think I know you.” Please make every effort to be

friendlier, it can make a big difference in a visitor’s

life!

WINE IN-GATHERING

Trinity wil l continue gathering wine during the month of September, to replenish our sacramental wine. A table is set up in the back of the sanctuary, near the sound booth, for your wine donations. We use Mogan David Concord Grape and Manischewitz Concord Grape. The blessing of this wine will take place at the worship services on October 3 & 4.

A class for First Holy Communion, for second grade and above, will be held on Sunday, October 4th

at 12 noon in the conference room. Parents must attend with their child. First Holy Communion will be on Sunday, October 11th at the 10:30 am worship service. Please contact Vicki, in the church office, to sign your child up and to receive the First Communion Book that we ask you to read with your child prior to the class.

Many of our school families are

struggling and need help feeding their

loved ones. Trinity Lutheran School

has a food pantry that helps provide

food to those in need. We are asking

you to help us fill the pantry so we

always have food available. Each month we will be

asking for a specific item to donate to the pantry. For

the month of September, the donated items we are

requesting are Pasta/Sauce/Macaroni. When you

are doing your own shopping, please consider

picking up a box of pasta, a jar/can of sauce or

some boxes of mac & cheese (keep an eye out for

those BOGO’s!) to help us keep the pantry full.

Please place your non-perishables in the boxes at

the back of the church. Thank you in advance for

your support!

The Quilting Group meets on the second and third Thursday of each month at 9:00 am, in the Fellowship Hall. We have taken the months of July and August off and will resume quilting in September. If you have any questions, please contact Irene Sisson at 407-846-4071. You do not need to be an expert quilter or sewer to join our group. We tie all our quilt tops with yarn. We are in need of people to help put them together. Machine sewers are desperately needed to sew the squares together (for the tops of the quilts). Both ladies and gents are welcome!

Many Thanks to Many!! The Music and Worship Team would like to extend their thanks to the m a ny , m a ny p e o p l e w h o helped to make the visit by the Bishops’ Handbell R i n g e r s a success. Our host families, Pastor Pete and Judy Zieg, Gilbert and Felicia Velez, Pastor Jeff, Jenny, and Joseph Cox, Gabe, Jackie, Camila, Luna, and Mia Porfilio, and Rick and Sandy Phillips, went above and beyond to make our visitors comfortable. Trips to the church, late night texts, later night doctor visits, last minute van driving, and occasional runs for extra food were all done with smiles. Vicki Miller helped with details large and small, long term and spur of the moment, going the extra mile several times. Jim Kenney and Tony and Sue Donnelly prepared an excel-lent luncheon for our guests on the day of their arrival. Five

Star Pizza threw in free desserts when they deliv-ered the going away pizzas on Sunday. Several members donated money “just because.” Pastor Bob, Council, and the Executive Team offered sup-port, suggestions, and encouragement all the way. Our Trinity members came out in full force to hear the Ringers perform at the Sunday service on Aug. 9 and very enthusiastically showed their appreciation for the performance. We feel that the Ringers and their director Derek Jackson and his wife Jennifer returned to the UK with good memories of Trinity Lutheran Church. Thanks again to everyone for making this a very memorable experience for our church. Your Worship & Music Team

Trinity Hilltoppers Fellowship Tuesday, September 1

Trinity's Hilltoppers seniors fellowship resume their regular monthly "first Tuesday” gatherings on September 1, 12 Noon in the Fellowship Hall. We hope you will join us for a nice lunch, a devotion, and an informative program. Do you ever wonder: Where did I leave my keys? Where did I park my car? Where is my checkbook? Why do I have such a hard time remembering names? Why did I put the milk in the pantry and the cereal in the refrigerator? Is it just normal aging, is it dementia, is it Alzheimer’s? What is the difference? If it’s happening, where can I get help? Our first Hilltoppers' program of the Fall will focus on nearly every senior citizen’s worst fear — and the topic that was at the top of the list when we took a survey last spring: Alzheimer’s disease. Our presenter will be a medical professional from our local Osceola Regional Medical Center speaking to us about these things. As always, please rsvp so we can prepare properly for lunch . . . Welcome to Trinity School As we start the new school year, I am so proud and excited to welcome all of our “old” students and our new families to Trinity. Enrollment is increasing and it is over-whelming to hear the positive comments from prospective parents. Trinity Lutheran School is certainly getting an amazing reputation through-out the local community for providing an excellent Christian education. As well as offering a comprehensive curriculum including math, language arts, science, social studies, religion, art, music, P.E. technology and Spanish to grades 4-8, we also offer many extra curricula activities ranging from book clubs, after school sports, Tribe, fitness club, Hand Bells, Adventurer’s Club, Craft Club. Gardening Club, Trinity’s Travelers Club, Graphic Design Club, Student Government to National Junior Honor Society as well as participating in many school and community

service projects. Summer Happenings During the summer break, we all have been working hard to improve the classrooms and campus. We now have Smart boards and projectors in all classrooms, thank you to Ian Miles for installing these. We have welcomed Karen Jackman as Kindergarten teacher and Jennifer Class as technology and Spanish teacher. Trinity School is extremely grateful to all the assistance we receive from volunteers. A huge thank you goes out to Jeannette Wize for organizing a working party and to Dave Radius for supervising the group, who, over several weeks, installed a new playground outside Tiger Town as well as spread mulch over all the playgrounds. Thank you to everyone who was involved in these projects, especially Brian Miller who was able to obtain the playground. Brian and Daniel Miller also spent many hours power washing all the walkways to make the campus cleaner and more attractive –

Sponsor the Good Samaritan shuttle to Trinity, for our seniors, on Sunday mornings for our worship services. (this shuttle is handicap accessible) The monthly amount is $200. You can sign up for half or all of this cost. A sign up sheet is on the corkboard, in the hallway, near the conference room. (same place as the flower chart) Use one of the envelopes in the pews and note GSV sponsor. Please tell us who you are sponsoring this in memory of, or in honor of on the envelope. Thank you for your support!

thank you to them. Finally, on behalf of all the students and teachers, I would like to say thank you to the Church members who so kind donated school supplies. We at Trinity are so blessed to have such amazing support. Food Pantry Several months ago we at Trinity Church and School recognized there was a desperate need to help families who were struggling to provide food, resulting in many students going hungry. Immediately, we established a food pantry here in school, maintained through donations and enabling us to supply needy families with weekly food packs. We then realized that many parents work 2 or 3 jobs resulting in children being alone all weekend and of course going hungry. Church Samaritan Task Force members, Tim Romberg, Elaine Thackston and myself met and agreed to make up Trinity Take Home Bags for such children. These bags contain nutritious food that children can feed themselves. The cost of 1 take home bag is approximately $6. To add to this problem, we also found students coming to school with no packed lunch or unable to afford to purchase a school lunch. $630 will provide a hot healthy lunch for one child for the whole school year. Kissimmee West Rotary Club so graciously donated $2000 towards our food program. Thank you to members of the Rotary and also thank you to all those generous people who donated funds to the food pantry in memoriam of Joy Borgman’s mother, Mildred Trover. This is an ongoing problem we need to constantly address. If you would like to help or donate please contact me.

On the first Wednesday, of each month, it is Trinity’s turn to shop, prepare and serve the meal at the Osceola Christian Ministry Center. Trinity is fortunate to have a great group of dedicated people who volunteer each month to do this outreach ministry. Our leaders are Tom & Donna Kaufman and our many volunteers include Joyce Baldwin, Shirley Walter, Connie Manning, Brian Vanderkin, and Dwight Horn. We are very fortunate to also have “summer helpers; Amy Vanderkin and her two sons, Logan and Cole. We also have Jim & Doris O’Connor, Seasonal Residents, who for years have led the program for us during the winter months they are with us. Thank you! Prior to the Kaufman’s taking over as our leaders, our member, Bobbie Owens who recently passed away,

led this group. Others who have been leaders for us are Sandee Johnston, and Fran & Don Balcom and other past volunteers include Lisa Rivera, Peter & Anita Hemmerle, and Bob & Donna Coon. We would also like to say a special thank you to Connie Manning. This past month was the last time she will be serving at the Christian Center as she and her husband will be

Trinity Church and School continually collect food and clothing for our neighbors in Osceola County. Bring your donations of both food and clothing to church, anytime you have gathered a few items together. On a weekly basis, our Samaritans will move the items to storage areas, making sure those donations get to places of need, including our own food pantry. Please #1...make sure your clothing donations are in reasonably good condition. Please #2...when you shop for groceries, remember there are two unseen “guests” who will be dining with you. One is Jesus. The other is a man, woman, or family who will deeply appreciate that they have been given a seat at your table.
