Explore our Scenic Routes Eurobodalla Cycling Club

Eurobodalla is generously scattered with shared paths, mountain bike trails and road cycle routes that pass by beaches and waterways, through forest, bushland and authentic villages.

Our shared paths are signposted with the dual pedestrian / cyclist symbol identifying the path as a shared area. Most routes weave through relatively flat terrain and offer many attractions for our community and visitors alike – what better way to get from A to B or just a healthy day out with family and friends.

To ensure you have a totally enjoyable, collision free cycling experience, please follow a few simple rules – some are just common courtesy and some are the law.

Keep to the Left Everyone using a shared path should keep to the

left as this will avoid collisions with other users. Cyclists must give way to pedestrians (Road Rule 250 & 251).

Cyclists must sound a bell or horn when approaching and passing others on a shared path.

Take particular care around children, dog walkers and older pedestrians.

Wearing an approved, properly fitted and fastened helmet is compulsory (Road Rule 256).

Maintain your bike. It must have at least one working brake and a bell or horn (Rule 258).

No riding across a road on a pedestrian or children’s crossing – you must dismount (Road Rule 248).

The cyclist who is 12 years or older must not ride on a footpath unless the rider is an adult and accompanying a child under 12 years (Road Rule 250).

Carry sunscreen, sunglasses and water, and drink regularly.

When cycling at night ensure your bike has a flashing or steady white light on the front and a flashing or steady red light on the rear that are both visible for 200m, as well as a red reflector on the rear that is visible for 50m (Road Rule 259).

When stopping for a break, answering your phone, or to check a map; choose a safe spot well away from the road or path. Park your bike at all times where it will not cause a trip hazard to others.

Obey traffic signs and road rules. Keep to the left even on quiet gravel roads as vehicles can be encountered unexpectedly.

Riding two abreast is allowed when cycling on a road but not more than 1.5m apart (Road Rules 151).

Remember you are sharing our roads, tracks and shared paths and these tips will help make the experience enjoyable and safe.

cycling routes in eurobodalla

Bod 1 – Farm and Forest - Bodalla to Reedy CreekDISTANCE: 50km return GRADE: moderate, reasonable level of fitness required SUITABLE: mountain bikes or hybrids

Start anywhere along Eurobodalla road which is partly sealed. This is a scenic ride that travels through the dairy and grazing land of the Tuross Valley before veering off to River Road then off to Reedy Creek Road that follows the river through the forest and returns to Bodalla by the same route. The turnaround point is at Reg Murphy Bridge which is a convenient spot for a picnic. The terrain is undulating. This ride can be shortened to any distance that suits your fitness level or it can be extended; heading west at the Reedy Creek Rd intersection with Eurobodalla Rd, takes you towards the small historic village of Nerrigundah. The return journey can be up Cadgee Mtn Rd to Nerrigundah Mtn Rd back to Eurobodalla Rd. There are a number of cafes and restaurants in Bodalla to aid your recovery at the end of the ride.

8

Mor1 - Town to Surf - Moruya to South Head returnDISTANCE: 16km return GRADE: easy SUITABLE: road bikes except extension to Congo Creek

Ride along the scenic river flats with grazing cattle that glimpse Moruya River and onto the ocean at Moruya Head with this easy ride. Park at Riverside Park, Church Street or you can start upstream at the Moruya Water Garden, River St. This section is connected by a good shared cycleway. Head east along South Head Rd on the pathway. The road generally follows the Moruya River. Take care when the cycleway crosses to the other side of the road and take added care where the cycleway merges with the road. Turn left into Charles Moffitt Drive. Once at the Surf Club you can extend the journey (1.5km return) up the hill to the headland where you can check out the historic cemetery and a great whale watching spot.

6

BB1 – The Bay and beyond - Batemans Bay to Moruya via Coast RoadDISTANCE: 71km return GRADE: moderate

SUITABLE: Road bikes and experienced riders Ready, set, go... make sure you take a map with you along one of the South Coast’s most scenic routes. There are wonderful coastal villages, magnificent headlands and sandy bays to explore. Although a sealed road route, it is lacking in shoulders in places and carries traffic where the speed limit is 100km/hr for long sections. Start at Corrigans Beach Reserve, Batehaven. Follow the coast along Beach Rd to the junction with George Bass Drive at Wimbie Beach. Head south on George Bass Drive past Mosquito Bay, Malua Bay, and McKenzies Beach, all with views of the ocean. South Rosedale (13km into ride) and Guerrilla Bay (15km) are two lovely spots to explore. Also deviate to Tomakin lookout (19km) where you have magnificent views up and down the coast. Turn off to Mossy Point (20km) and follow Annetts Pde to Broulee. Re-join George Bass Drive and keep heading south. At the southern end of the airport you have a chance to view the entrance of the Moruya River to the Ocean. Follow North Head Drive into Moruya and take care as there are some sections that have very limited shoulders and sharp bends. Follow the scenic Moruya River into town and if you arrive on Saturday visit Moruya Country Markets at Riverside Park.
