Our special thanks to Daryl Gonchoroff, our retiring President, and to Barbara Stratton, our retiring

Vice President, for their faithful service of 6 years on the DCL Friends Board, the maximum permit-

ted by our By Laws. Barb Stratton will continue to serve as Chairperson on the Tea Committee of the

DCL Friends. Our thanks to Joe Macie for serving 3 years on the DCL Friends Board and the Tribute

Committee.

Joanne Chamberlain, Hildy Osborn, and Anna Bridy, all former DCL Friends Board members, visit

the Nottingham Retirement Community the 3rd Wed. every month. They bring a collection of large-

print books from which residents can select to checkout, books that residents requested from our li-

brary, and return books.

Our thanks for DCL Friends like them.

Your Library, Your Vote— Don’t Forget to Vote on the Library Budget Proposition!

The primary source of the Library’s funding is voted on by you, Jamesville-Dewitt School District residents. Taxpayers’ contributions now constitute more than 95% of our annual income.

This year, the DCL proposition on the May 20th ballot is for an additional $28,932. This equals an in-crease over the 2013 budget proposition of a very modest 2.257% (within the tax cap levy limit estab-lished by New York State).

This small increase, which means pennies more per day for most residents, will allow the Library to

continue providing the services and programs that its patrons have come to expect.

Please take the time to vote on the Library Budg-et Proposition on Tuesday, May 20, 2014. The vote is held at the Jamesville-DeWitt High School Main Gym Foyer from 7am to 9pm, the same day and place where you vote for the Jamesville-DeWitt School Dis-trict budget.

For information about voting requirements, please contact us at (315) 446-3578 or call the James-ville-DeWitt School District Office at (315) 445-8300.

Report on the Friends Annual Meeting

The Friends of the DCL held its annual meeting on January 18th. At that meeting vacancies on the board were filled and a new slate of officers was elected for the year. New members of the board are Ray O’Connell, Shelly Field, Karen Fruehan, Jean Eschner , Helen Rezak and Pavlina Ivanova. New members give new life and ideas to any board, and we welcome the participation of these new Friends.

The newly elected Board officers for the year include Larry Hoefler, President; Gretchen Roberts, Vice President; Sandra Abbott, Secretary; and Mike Kimber, Treasurer. Our thanks go to the Nominating Committee members: Gretchen Roberts, Karen Hicks, and Ann Wright, for their important work on this committee.

The new board is busy deciding on committee partici-pation to manage the many community activities the Friends sponsor. Remember that Friends members are

very welcome to participate in these activities initiated by the board. There is always an opportunity to get involved, even in a small way. If you’re interested in helping out please leave your name and contact information with the Front Desk staff at the Library to the attention of the Friends and you will get a return call.

Chuck D’Imperio, author of several books on local topics, was the featured speaker at the Annual Meeting. A great crowd heard D’Imperio relate stories about some of the 50 little known museums he has visited around New York State for his book, Unknown Museums of Upstate New York. From his story of the Kazoo Museum in Eden, NY, to his description of the Cobblestone Houses in Childs, NY, the audience went away with a list of fascinating plac-es to visit this summer—most of which can be reached in a day. Our thanks goes to Chuck for another event which challenges our imaginations and zest for discovery.

This Summer, the DCL will be offering a new online book club, The Cozy Chair.

Much like a traditional face-to-face book club, The Cozy Chair discussions will offer more opportuni-ties for everyone to share and chat about our favorite books. Currently, there are four groups planned for the initial launch, including Armchair Sleuths for mystery lovers, and Armchair Explorers for popular science readers.

Official book titles for each group will be revealed in the 2014 Summer Program Guide. The

library staff also will be distributing bookmarks in select books relating to Cozy Chair books. The book-marks will contain information on signing up and participating in our online groups. Keep an eye out for these bookmarks and more information about our online book clubs.

We hope to see you online, commenting, mingling, and sharing your reading experiences with fellow booklovers.
