When it rains, it pours. That’s a familiar phrase to most of us. It means that when “unpleasantness” comes, it seems to keep on coming. Most of us don’t like to get rained on, even though we know that we need a little bit of rain to sustain our world. But, the problem comes when it keeps on coming. When it keeps on coming, it floods. Parts of our coun- try are certainly experiencing that harsh reality as I write this. To quote one of our children’s songs, “The rains come down and the floods go up.” We realize that wa- ter is good, but too much of it isn’t such a good thing. Floods are hardly ever good and welcome events. When it rains, it pours … is also a statement about some of the trou- bles or challenges we face. If one thing breaks, it’s not so bad. But when there are multiple events tak- ing place at the same time, it seems a bit overwhelming. The occasional rain we can handle. The continuous rain, however, amounts to pouring and leads to flooding our lives with difficult circumstances and hard- ships. When it rains, it pours … some- times it’s true in our life together as a church. It wasn’t really rain, but it was water that Jeff, our custodian, discovered in the basement. It was- n’t really pouring out of the bottom of the hot water heater, but it was trickling at a pretty good clip. I should have suspected that some- thing was wrong when our electric bill was higher than normal. Once we discovered the problem, we shut off the water (causing us to have a Sunday at church without hot water in the building). We also shut off the electricity to the water heater. Then it poured. The next electric bill was even higher than the last one that already was higher than normal. Then, we just got the latest water bill. You guessed it! It was much higher than normal. I guess that can happen when you don’t make frequent trips to the church basement … but then again there’s normally not much reason to make frequent trips to the basement! Then it pours some more. Our church computer decided to “die” this past week. All of our data is good, but poor Lisa was left with- out her primary tool: her computer. Hence, the tardy Informer. Oh, and just as the winter was winding down, the church’s tractor/ snowblower died. The engine has been replaced … just in time for the last snowstorm of the season. On the horizon, there are more clouds and more likely showers. When servicing our parsonage boiler this past winter, the techni- cian reminded me that the boiler is at least 25 years old (and our water heater is about 10 years old) and we should “really look at replacing it pretty soon.” Very fortunately, we are in the process of fixing most of these is- sues. But, just as with your own household, most of these things take time, energy, and resources to fix. Somebody once asked me how a church runs. They wanted to know if we charged dues to be a member. They were shocked when I replied that people voluntarily give to sup- port the work of the church. I’m reminded of Paul’s encour- agement to the church at Philippi. He first spoke about how God helped to meet all of his needs in his difficult times. Then he spoke of his certainty that God would take care of their needs in the current time: “my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.” (4:19) What a great assurance! Please know that we try to be good stewards and managers of the resources that are given to the church. We thank everyone for the ongoing support of our church. Through your financial support we have hot water, an efficient office, snow-free sidewalks, a great staff, good study materials for Bible study, a warm place to meet, and so much more. Hopefully, with your support, when it rains some more, and it really pours, we’ll continue to serve the Lord as he equips us to work together to do just that! Memorials Given ................ When it rains, it pours. That’s a familiar phrase to most of us. It

means that when “unpleasantness” comes, it seems to keep on coming. Most of us don’t like to get rained on, even though we know that we need a little bit of rain to sustain our world.

But, the problem comes when it keeps on coming. When it keeps on coming, it floods. Parts of our coun-try are certainly experiencing that harsh reality as I write this. To quote one of our children’s songs, “The rains come down and the floods go up.” We realize that wa-ter is good, but too much of it isn’t such a good thing. Floods are hardly ever good and welcome events.

When it rains, it pours … is also a statement about some of the trou-bles or challenges we face. If one thing breaks, it’s not so bad. But when there are multiple events tak-ing place at the same time, it seems a bit overwhelming. The occasional rain we can handle. The continuous rain, however, amounts to pouring and leads to flooding our lives with difficult circumstances and hard-ships.

When it rains, it pours … some-times it’s true in our life together as a church. It wasn’t really rain, but it was water that Jeff, our custodian, discovered in the basement. It was-n’t really pouring out of the bottom of the hot water heater, but it was trickling at a pretty good clip. I should have suspected that some-thing was wrong when our electric bill was higher than normal. Once we discovered the problem, we shut

off the water (causing us to have a Sunday at church without hot water in the building).

All of our data is good, but poor Lisa was left with-out her primary tool: her computer. Hence, the tardy Informer.

Oh, and just as the winter was winding down, the church’s tractor/snowblower died. The engine has been replaced … just in time for the last snowstorm of the season.

On the horizon, there are more clouds and more likely showers. When servicing our parsonage boiler this past winter, the techni-cian reminded me that the boiler is at least 25 years old (and our water heater is about 10 years old) and we should “really look at replacing it pretty soon.”

Very fortunately, we are in the process of fixing most of these is-sues. But, just as with your own household, most of these things take time, energy, and resources to fix.

Somebody once asked me how a church runs. They wanted to know if we charged dues to be a member. They were shocked when I replied

that people voluntarily give to sup-port the work of the church.

I’m reminded of Paul’s encour-agement to the church at Philippi.

SEEKING SUMMER READING CLUB DONATIONS

The summer reading club begins in June. Could you help with prizes for these eager readers? We need things like: candy bars, ring pops, gum, or other individually wrapped candy. Non-food items: balls, hair ties, or other trinkets.

The students earn points for every page they read; with those points, they are able to choose a prize from our do-nated prize collection.

Thank you for participating in this fun Bible learning summer ministry where the children continue to read throughout the summer, learn stories from the Bible and make fun crafts.

There is a box on the table outside the church office for your donations.

Graduation Sunday will take place May 18th during our morning wor-ship service. Please come and support our FBC high school graduates and college graduates.

We will have a recognition social hour in the multi-purpose room imme-diately following our service.

————————————-

MHS Baccalaureate Service

will take place in the MHS Frederick-son Auditorium Sunday, May 18th at 7:00 PM. This special worship ser-vice will take the place of our evening service at FBC.

The Baccalaureate Service is spon-sored by the Manistique Area Kiwanis Club.

Our H.S. Sunday School class has com-pleted a mural they have been working on this last quarter. They studied the “Names of God” found in the Bible and what they mean. Each student designed, created and painted the name(s) of God they selected as their own interpretation including color and font. It was a fun learning ex-perience. (see above words & meanings)

“I AM” - God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites; I AM has sent me to you.” Exodus 3:14

“ROCK” - He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he. Deuteronomy 32:4

“THE DOOR” - “I am the Door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and find pasture.” John 10:9

May 6th will be the date of the next Heart Seekers Women’s Bible Study. They will meet at 5:30 pm at Susette St. John’s studying chapter 10– Self Control.

May 27th is the date of our second monthly meeting and Jan Hickey will host this one at 5:30 pm where we will study chapter 11—How to be Filled with the Spirit.

Heart Seeker’s Bible Study

Hello all! I am very excited to share with you the opportunity God has given me for this coming summer. I am going overseas through a China Global Project (CGP) from May 22 to July 8. This is a summer missions program sponsored by Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship, an inter-denominational ministry among college stu-dents. The basic purpose of the CGP is to give students, like me, a “hands on” ex-perience in the mission field. Through studying with and working among people from another culture for a summer, I hope to step outside my comfort zone and bet-ter understand my role in world missions in the future.

While in China, I will be attending along with about twenty other students a uni-versity in the western region. We will take basic language and culture classes while building relationships with our classmates and other students we meet on campus in hopes of sharing our faith and connecting them to established missionaries. I am ex-tremely excited to build cross-cultural relationships and learn different aspects of the Chinese culture.

I would like to invite you to be a partner in this summer project to China. I urge you to pray for the project by asking the Lord to reveal His love through the lives of each team member. This is what I desire the most. If you choose, you could also help by financially sending me on this China Global Project. Please consider sup-porting me in any way you can for this endeavor. I want to develop support from friends and church family so I can be accountable for the work that is accomplished over the summer.

As a church, FBC has already blessed me in so many ways as I have grown up and matured in the church. I greatly value your support and appreciate your love and work in Christ. I will be giving more information about this trip on Sunday, May 11 during the morning service.

God bless! Anna Mooi Contact Information: To sign up for an email newsletter, send a message to [email protected] To financially support me, please make a check out to ‘IVCF’ and either:
