HOME RUN DERBY: Garrett Stubbs belted two of Corpus Christi’s five home runs Sunday afternoon as the Hooks strolled to a 7-1 victory over Frisco before 5,259 at Whataburger Field. Hooks lefty Kent Emanuel limited the Riders to six hits over 6 1/3 innings. Emanuel fanned six batters and did not issue a walk, throwing 61 of 86 pitches for strikes. Jacob Dorris worked around two walks and two hit batsmen in 1 1/3 frames. The Frisco run came in the ninth off sinkerballer Andrew Thome. Stubbs started the bombardment in the second with one-out solo salvo to right field. With two away in the third, rehabbing Astros outfielder Jake Marisnick launched a two-run homer to left field. Jamie Ritchie began the fifth with a 380-foot shot to right, and JD Davis added another solo blast in the sixth. All of this damage came against lefty Yohnader Mendez. The 2016 Rangers Minor League Pitcher of the Year had allowed only four home runs during last year’s campaign. Stubbs capped the afternoon with a two-run dinger off David Ledbetter in the eighth.
