    An exciting opportunity at Hearthwood!

Many Greenbrier students live at Hearthwood apartments on Michie Drive. Many of those students and their families are English as a Second Language learners. A dream of having a place at Hearthwood for Greenbrier families to gather, learn, and maintain connected with the school is becoming a reality thanks to the creativity and initiative of Mr. Kyner and ESL teacher Mr. Connaughton as well as the generosity of the Hearthwood management. Greenbrier will have free access to an efficiency apartment (Apt. 8A) to use for school conferences, tutoring and other activities. A group met in mid October to discuss the possibilities of having ESL and literacy tutoring for parents during the day, tutoring for Greenbrier students after school, early learning playgroups for preschoolers, and special community events. This pop-in and learn center will be used in a variety of ways to enrich this vibrant community. If you are interested in learning more about supporting these efforts contact Mr. Kyner. If you want to become an ESL tutor for a Greenbrier parent, contact Jackie Bright, Executive Director of Literacy Volunteers at [email protected] or by calling 977-3838. You can visit http://literacyforall.org/tutors to learn about the basic requirements for tutors.
