PREFACE
The IQAC committee has put forth certain aims and objectives for quality assurance in the college education. These are listed in Part-A of the report. We are successful in keeping academic pace and this is reflected through our academic and practical results. PART A:
The plan of action chalked out by the IQAC in the beginning of the year towards quality
enhancement and the outcome achieved by the end of the year
The College underwent the Accreditation process in the month of August 2005 and
received the B++grade from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council, Bangalore. The
IQAC decided to initiate the quality enhancement and quality sustenance activities during the
current academic year, in addition to its normal academic and research activities. The Alagappa
University, Karaikudi, has revamped the syllabus of all the U.G&PG Courses in the year 2010-11.
The latest semester pattern of syllabi incorporates local requirements and intends to generate
the scope of employability of students and foster global competencies among the students. The
present syllabi being part of UGC module Curriculum will enable the students to be successful
at the national level competitive examinations. Seminars are periodically conducted to make
the student to get well versed in communication skills and to express confidently in their future
endeavors. Greater contact with experts from various fields through guest lectures, seminars.
The conference hall and Department of Zoology are fitted with LCD projectors, computers and
laptops. It has further fulfilled the recommendations of the NAAC committee 5 th March 2005)
by providing improved laboratory facilities for the departments of Physics, Chemistry with
necessary scientific equipments and modules

1. In April 2012 the four departments of our college, Mathematics, Commerce, English,
Business Administration have been upgraded as research departments
2. The Commission constituted by the Alagappa university has visited and inspected on
8.5.2012 to introduce M.A., English and M.Phil .in Commerce.

As per the guide lines of UGC, the University pattern of CBCS (Choice Based Credit
System) is followed. The periodical up gradation of syllabi is carried out in the University
and is also followed in the College. Value based education, Environmental education,
soft skills development are key parts of Syllabi at UG and PG levels.

culture, Medicinal plants and biofertilizers in UG Botany.

The college is directed to follow the schedule of examinations chalked out by Calcutta
University. Instead of the stipulated number of periodical tests and selection tests held till 2008,
a new system of mid-term and annual tests, held before each university examination, has been
implemented
Marks for internal and external examinations are 25% and 75% for theory papers and 40 % and
50% for practical papers.

The College has at present has at present 72 faculty members and 23 support
staff in the aided stream, 75 faculty members in the unaided stream with 27 support staff. The
ratio is 2.4:1 in aided stream and 1.8:1 in the unaided stream.

In this information age, all the readers are using the digital contents of various reading material.
In order to give facilities to our library readers , this year (2010-2011) the college library
subscribes e-books for economics , commerce, and business administration.
Besides the college library has got a broad band Internet connection to browse the latest
reading materials for the users.
We have a full fledged Library consisting of about 31,300 Volumes of Books. We have
been subscribing for 6 – Journals, 33 - Magazines & 8 – Dailies, we are receiving 4 – News

26. Courses in which student assessment of teachers is introduced and the action
taken on student feedback.
Student assessment of teachers has been in practice since the post accreditation in the college.
Questionnaire prescribed for the student evaluation are supplied to the students, especially
final year students, analyzed by the Coordinator of Student Services and then submits a report
on the student’s feedback to the principal and then conveyed to the respective teacher or
department concerned for the teacher improvement. The student feedback on teacher is vital
for the newly appointed staff members. The short comings observed by the students are
brought to the notice of the concerned staff members to correct themselves. The strong points
identified by the students are also informed to the staff members and they are expected to
keep up with them.

30. Increase in the infrastructural facilities
Mushroom rearing room and harvesting rooms was set up.In the recent past another important addition to our infrastructure has been the setting up of indoor stadium funded by the UGC. Updated andmodern lab equipments wereinstalled in Chemistry and Zoology Department.
31. Technology up gradation
To modernize the teaching learning process, many well furnished rooms with all necessary
accessories viz LCD/DLP projectors, teaching amplifiers were setup. Advanced equipments were
also purchased in all disciplines to cope up with the revision of curriculum. Learners are
motivated by various forms of teaching such as e-resources, Video lecturers etc., e-learning
softwares were also purchased to design MLM. Internet bandwidth has been increased from
2MBPS to 4MBPS and it is availed by all in the campus at free of cost.
32. Computer and internet access and training to teachers and students
The availability of 4MBPS Internet connections helps all students, teaching staff and non teaching staff to be in the main stream of global development. This facility is offered at free of cost to all in the campus. Non-computer science students in Under Graduate courses have to undergo Introduction to Information Technology (both theory and practical)and PG students have to undergo basic computer and Ms office. Through this facility, it is ensured that no one is new to computer and internet. Further, students are encouraged to use internet during lunch.

33. The Alumni Association and its activities
The Alumni association was formed in 1983. Since then it has been rendering great
service to our institution. It has already built a Complete Block for B.Sc Computer Science. It
has also constructed a notice board, toilets for students & staff, security room & a compound
wall for girls rest room. It has instituted three Endowment Prizes for XII students securing - I
Place in all the schools in and around Tiruppattur and for University rank holders of our college.
. Activities and support from the Alumni Association
Lion.N.Karthikeyan, President, Shipping Owners Association, Andaman has made many
contributions for the welfare of the students of our college. In addition to Rs.1.5 Lakhs for the
reverse osmosis for safe drinking water for students and staff, four hundred chairs worth
Rs.One lakh in the Conference Hall, he has created two Endowment prizes by depositing Rs.2
lakhs to help two poor boys and two poor girls belonging to Commerce Department.
Thiru.V.Singaravadivelu, Son of our former Principal, Late.Thiru.M.Balasundaravathanam, our
old student of the Department of BBA, now the Chief Finance Officer, Rosy Blue, Dubai, has
promised that every year he will make arrangements for the appointment of 2 students, one
student each from the Department of BBA & Commerce. All expenses including the flight
charges from Tiruppattur to Dubai are borne by him. 3 Students have been appointed since,
2009-2010.

National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli.
In the Winter Adventure Camp 2010 – 2011 under Rajiv Gandhi Adventures conducted
by Atal Bihari Vajpayee Western Himalayan Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports,
Manali, Himachal Pradesh, M.Satheesh Kumar, III B.Sc. Zoology, NSS volunteer has been
selected for the camp from 24.02.2011 to 05.03.2011. He is the only student selected from the
affiliated colleges of Alagappa University.
30 cadets have written B Certificate Examination held at 9 TN Bn NCC, Karaikudi and
secured 100% result with A and B Grade.

40. Activities of the Guidance and Counseling unit
Career Guidance Bureau has been doing a wonderful service to the students of our
college. With the effort of the Bureau, students are guided to attend campus selection conducted
by the Integrated Share Broking Company. Students have been guided to apply for IAS
examination & other competitive examinations. Separate classes for all students aspiring to apply
for competitive Examinations have been arranged.

PLACEMENT CELL
Dr.R.Rajasekaran, & Mr.V.Ananthakrishnan (IT) are the placement Officers of our
College.
Integrated Share Broking, Karaikudi conducted an interview and selected 25 Students to
be placed as Share Brokers in September 2011.
The District Employment Office, Sivagangai conducted a Job Fair on 28.01.2012 in our
college in which 21 Companies all over Tamil Nadu, had participated.
AMTEX Solution, Chennai, has planned to conduct a Campus Interview in our college
for our students on March 7th
2012.
GIRL STUDENTS WELFARE FORUM
The Department of Women’s Studies, Alagappa University organized a Cultural program
‘SOCIANA – 2012’ in association with the Department of Social Works on 09.02.2012.
18 Girls Students participated in various competitions like MIME, QUIZ, RANGOLI,
Elocution in English & Group Dance etc.,

41. Development Programmes for non-teaching staff
A Personality Programme on “Managerial Skills” for Office Staff was organized by IQAC on
Monday, the 15th November 2010. Dr.N. Mohanraj , the Principal presided over the meeting.
Prof.R.Rajasekaran, Head, Department of Commerce conducted the workshop. Team Building,
mutual help and leadership qualities had their impact on the office trainees. The participants of
the workshop revealed great sense of commitment during the entire programme.

Camp at Seetha Lakshmi Aachi College, Pallathur on 23.08.2011.
108 students of various classes have been supplied with Indian Express News Paper
under Students concession scheme – Rs.1 per day.
About 57 Students of various classes have subscribed for the Hindu, under the
concession scheme for Students.
Three students donated blood on 02.11.2011 to save the life of a woman in the
Government Hospital. Tiruppattur.

NCC
NCC has an enrolment of 70 cadets (both boys & girls) in our Company headed by
Capt.Dr.KR.Jeyakumar, Assistant Professor of Economics. It is functioning well with the valuable
suggestions, motivation, guidance and coordination extended to us by our Management,
Principal and all staff of our college.
Capt.Dr.KR.Jeyakumar has been appointed as the Board Examiner for NCC “C” certificate
examination in Trichy Group Headquarters. He is also one of the Board Officers for the
selection of team for the Republic Day Camp, Pudhucherry and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
24 cadets have attended Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC) held at Alagappa
University College of Physical Education, Karaikudi from 16th - 25th May 2011.
16 cadets have attended Inter Unit Competition Camp (IUC Camp) held at National
Institute of Technology (NIT), Trichirappalli from 9th to 18th June 2011.
16 cadets have attended Inter Unit Competition Camp (IUC Camp) held at Pasumpon
Muthuramalinga Thevar College, Usilampatti, from 22nd to 31st July 2011.
24 cadets have attended Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC) cum RDC Training – I
at Alagappa University College of Physical Education, Karaikudi from 17th - 26th August 2011.
15 cadets have attended Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC) cum RDC Training – I
at Alagappa University College of Physical Education, Karaikudi from 22nd - 30th December
2011.

5 cadets have attended All India Trekking Expedition at Malayatoor Reserve Forest,
Ernakulam, Kerala from 21st December 2011 to 5th January 2012.
3 cadets have attended National Integration Camp at Sambalpur, Orissa from 23rd
September 2011 to 4th October 2011.
We have a tie up with the Government Hospital Karaikudi to donate Blood in case of
emergency to save the life of the poor people. We have saved nearly 15 poor people in the
Academic year.
NSS NSS of our college has three units for boys and one unit for girls. Mr.B.Rajkumar of
Economics Department, Dr.N.Vijayanand of Botany Department, Mr.RM.Ganesan of Chemistry
Department are the Programme Officers for the Boys units and Mrs.J.Felcia Gnantheebam of
English Department is the Programme Officer of the Girls wing.
The National Voters Day was celebrated on 25.01.2012 in our college, various competitions
were conducted for students.
Personality Development Program was conducted on 27.01.2012, Resource persons
from the WAVE Trust, Maduari, gave special Lecture on Empowerment of Youth.
About 100 Students were involved in Local Bodies Elections and helped in the smooth conduct
of the Election.
NSS Day was celebrated on 24.09.2011 Thiru.C.Raju, Thiru.S.Antony Britto,
Thiru.S.Pandi, Officials from the Fire Service Department; Tiruppattur gave a demonstration on
How to prevent the Fire Accidents.
About 10 One day camps were conducted in the College Campus to maintain the
campus clean. Awareness program about Hazards of the use of plastics was conducted on
27.01.2012.
SPECIAL CAMP:
A 7 days special camp of all the four units was conducted in Thalakavur, Managiri,
Keearnipatti, Thillai Nagar from 24.01.2012 to 31.01.2012. The following activities were carried
over by the NSS volunteers.
The camp was inaugurated on 24.01.2012 by the Principal in the presence of
Thiru.C.Deivendiran, President, Thallakavur Panchayat.
National Voter’s Day was celebrated on 25.01.2012. The volunteers helped in
distribution of New Voters Identity cards and helped in enrolling new voters.
Thiru.S.Mariyarethinam, Asst.Prof.ofEconomics gave a lecture on Indian Democracy.
Ms.R.Kowsi, Asst. Manager Indian Overseas Bank, Managiri, delivered a special lecture
on Employment opportunities in Banking sector.
On 26.01.2012 Republic Day was celebrated in the village school premises. Our Principal
delivered the key note address on Youth involvement in Indian Independence.
Dr.N.Vijayanand, Asst.Prof.of Botany spoke about the Amazing effect on Science &
Tecnology.

To celebrate Birthday of the Hon’ble Chief minister of Tamil Nadu trees were planted.
Thiru.K.Lakshmanan & Thiru.K.Velusamy addressed about Law & Order on 27.01.2012.
Dr.N.Ramani, Vice Principal gave a lecture on Empowerment of Women and Dr.M.Maheswari,
Asso.Prof.of English, gave a talk on Yoga & Meditation.
On 28.01.2012 Mr.SR.Justin Gnanarajan, Manager, IOB, Managiri, gave a special lecture
on The Role of Nationalized Banks in upliftment of Self help groups.
Dr.S.Jeyavel, Director of Physical Education, delivered a talk on the importance of Yoga
and Meditation. The Valedictory function was held on 31.01.2012, Dr.N.Mohanraj, Principal
gave the valedictory address.
