SAEINDIA : An Overview
Society Of Automotive Engineers ,INDIA is an affiliate
society of SAE International registered in India as an
Indian non profit engineering and scientific society ded-
icated to the advancement of mobility industry in India.
SAEINDIA is a professional engineering society whose
membership represents practically every engineering
and scientific discipline. Its members combine their
specialized abilities to further advance the research,
development, design, manufacture and utilization of
vehicles which operate on land, water, air and space.
Across the India, it has 5 major sections with total 458
collegiate clubs benefitting around 55,000 students, in
terms of providing various scholarships and organizing
national level undergraduate competitions.
From Chairman’s Desk
A ligarh Muslim University (AMU) occupies a unique
position amongst universities and institutions of higher
learning in the country. It was established as
Muhammadan Anglo Oriental College in 1877, by the
great visionary and social reformer, Sir Syed Ahmad
khan, which became university in 1920.
From its very inception, it
has kept its doors open to
the members of all commu-
nities and from all corners
of the country and the
world. The Aligarh Muslim
University is the realization
of a vision which was
broad, far- reaching and
realistic.
It is proudly Islamic and
proudly Indian institution: a
living symbol of composite
culture of India and a bul-
wark of its secular princi-
ples.
MECHANICAL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT
The Department of Mechanical Engineering was estab-
lished in 1941 at Aligarh Muslim University. It is re-
nowned for its faculty and alumni all over the globe and
is one of the oldest departments of Zakir Hussain Col-
lege of Engineering and Tech-
nology.
The Department of Mechanical
Engineering has well qualified
teaching staff actively engaged
in teaching and research and
also been contributing effec-
tively in administrative and
corporate life of the campus. It
has impressive infrastructure
for training and research. The
faculty has published more
than 650 research papers in
international and national
journals of repute and have
regularly been participating in
various international and na-
tional conferences, seminars
and other academic events.
Team Doers have shown how
to realize their dreams out of
nothing in hand. It’s the duty
of juniors to nurture the sap-
ling which they have planted.
Such kind of devotion ,
discipline and a little bit
madness will certainly help in
their career.
I appreciate the way stu-
dents have set up this
club, putting in every
ounce of hard work,
starting from scratch. I
am equally excited for
the upcoming projects
under this club. Team
Doers has marked the
advent of Z..H.C.E.T in
the prestigious and coveted competition BA-
JA 2013. I wish all the best to team members
for their future endeavors.

ZHCET COLLEGIATE CLUBZHCET COLLEGIATE CLUBZHCET COLLEGIATE CLUB
Established during the session 2012-
13 with the collective efforts of group
of students from 3rd year ,Mechanical
Engg. Dept., with strong urge to com-
plement the theoretical Knowledge
imparted in classroom emphasizing on
practical aspects of engineering.
Started with an initial strength of 132
student members under the faculty
advisory of Mr. Nafees Ahmad II and
Dr. Syed Fahad Anwer , the vision to
develop an automotive culture revolu-
tionizing the institute.
One of the most important qualities of
club is its diversity with students from
almost all the departments of college,
with strong belief that each and every
passionate student can be a partici-
pating member of chapter.
It provides a platform for students to
share and increase their engineering
know – how through increased inter-
action between students at all levels,
group activities ,lectures, workshops,
and by participating in national level
events like BAJA 2013, EFFICYCLE,
SUPRA INDIA etc.
Mr. Nafees Ahmad– II
Associate Professor,
Faculty Advisor, SAE INDIA
Dr. Syed Fahad Anwer
Assistant Professor,
Faculty Advisor, SAE INDIA
It is expected that any good engineer-
ing institute will have student chapters
of professional bodies in the discipline;
therefore it is satisfying that our
department has a stu-
dent chapter of SAE
and that it has more
than 130 members. The activities that the chapter orga-
nized in the current session were all very relevant includ-
ing the participation in SAEINDIA BAJA 2013. We intend
to sit down with our students in the beginning of the
coming session and plan activities for 2013-14. The de-
partment will be more than happy to provide all the sup-
port that is possible. We expect to enhance our relation-
ship with Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra and
also extend it to other automobile companies.

TEAM DOERS : WHERE IT ALL
BEGAN…..
Spattering mud all around with the sound of mean
engine reverberating, pulling all its effort to scale
to overcome the thick, rocky, terrain of dirty brown
track, sound quite gruesomely exciting ? Doesn’t
it ?
However, the task of making such a machine is
much more challenging than what appears in the
pinnacle of display.
This year, some of the technically inspired students
dared to dream of , thus bringing into existence
TEAM DOERS. Their dream carries forward to this
day, with the baton in our hand, with inflated zeal
to run the next leg of race.
It is the story of 23 passionate undergraduate engg.
students from Z.HC.E.T, A.M.U who represented
their college for the first time in an extremely
demanding and challenging student project-
BAJA2013.
Their souvenir Their souvenir Their souvenir
was about their was about their was about their
dream , their dream , their dream , their
never yielding never yielding never yielding
faith and the faith and the faith and the
extent to which extent to which extent to which
they defied their they defied their they defied their
mettle…...mettle…...mettle…...
A s a team captain and founding member,
I would like to say that leading a team
of your colleagues was an interesting and equally
challenging task. You have to keep balance in eve-
rything. You get to know in and out of every team
member and to how to get the best out of them. In
the end everything has to be done in favor of the your ultimate
goal only. I am thankful to each and every member and whomsoev-
er was related to it any way, because without them it wasn't possible.
The journey has just started, BAJA-13 was the first step in this direc-
tion. This has to go on by generations of ZHCET to come and work
towards the only goal that is to infuse the spirit of automobile in
the college, simultaneously pumping this fresh breed in to the auto
sector.

Our Inception
8th May,2012, it’s the craziest
moment when Team Doers
registered for BAJA 2013.We
developed a vast array of
technical knowledge by read-
ing books, earlier design re-
ports. We started working
from the scratches and came
with flying colors at virtual
design presentation round
held at Bangalore judged by
eminent juries from leading
automotive companies.
Fabrication :
It was undoubtedly a great
learning experience for all of
us. By working on machines
fabricating each parts as per
design & welding them
together yielded to an All
Terrain Beast ready to roar
at track.
Testing and
Aesthetics :
We were able to
execute multiple
times test run of
vehicle before the
actual race cor-
recting minor faults
turned out during
testing sessions.
Special attentions
were also given to
provide our vehicle
a sporty look.
DAY-1 (static
events) :
The first task was to take the
vehicle for technical inspec-
tion judged by industry gi-
ants. Vehicle was tested for
conformance with rulebook,
tilt test for oil leak, GO-NO-
GO test, Brake test, 5 sec.
exit of driver etc. Then, the
team being inspected OK
after some twitches ,
reached to confront further
challenges .
DAY-3 ( Endurance
race )
The race start was a spec-
tacle in itself. 105 teams
shaped in form of pyramid
to start 4 hour endurance
race. Unfortunately, very
early in the race, a me-
chanical breakdown of
universal joint stopped our
journey. After much effort
to revive the car, team
finally decided that it
couldn’t run after 16 laps
anymore. The team instead
of being bogged down by
failure, took this oppor-
tunity to have look at other
team’s car & design. The
planning & execution of
other teams were phe-
nomenally efficient & pro-
fessional. The feedback of
other teams on our car was
very positive considering it
was our first attempt.
DAY-2 ( Dynamic
events-Time to
hit the dirt )
This was probably the
most enthralling day of
the event. Tasks includ-
ed acceleration test,
figure of 8 & hill climb-
ing test. Team moved
to next hurdle to ruth-
less maneuverability
track full of log obsta-
cles, sand & gravel
traps, muddy & tight
corners.
It was the only race
where ambitions go
full throttle.

rules and building a car that
could run at extreme
conditions.

Designing :
For BAJA2013, the
team went out for pre
– fabrication design-
ing on software pack-
ages like AUTOCAD
2013, Solid works and
analyzed in ANSYS for
various types of tests
viz. front & rear
impact test, complete
& side rollover etc.
keeping in mind the
driver’s comfort, the
cockpit was designed
ergonomically.

T eam Doers debuted in BAJA SAE INDIA in 2013 season
and the results speak for the hard work put in by the
team :
Team was among 120 selected teams out of 262 partici-
pating teams from reputed engg. colleges across the na-
tion in virtual design presentation round. This is the first
time participation of ZHCET, AMU in its history.
Team successfully qualified the college level technical
inspection round inspected by Mr. U.D. Bhangale ,Head of
Dynamic events at BAJA SAE INDIA. Team was among 105
selected teams out of 120.
Team won great accolades for its innovation - Front
Impact Member in static evaluation at the competition.
Team cleared all the preliminary rounds : Engine test,
Tilt test, Go-no- Go test ,Brake test and safety checks at
NATRIP, INDORE
Team performed excellently in dynamic events too like
acceleration test, figure of 8 test, hill climbing test and
maneuverability test grueling over wooden blocks, sharp
turns, muddy terrain and numerous ups and downs.
Team performed excellently in 4 hours,34 laps (1 lap =
3.5 km) endurance race which is the most gruel some and
difficult event of all. We drove well for 16 laps after which
owing to unaccountable mechanical breakdown of univer-
sal joint , we were not able to perform till the end.
All team members were awarded with certificate of
appreciation from the organizing committee.

P articipation in the Baja 2013
was an achievement in itself .The
conditions were very tough but as
being a national competition you
can’t expect less than that. As
being a first timer, it was really a
big thing for me to made my team
qualify for the endurance race,
the team supported me and gave
me strength through out the

Our Innovation
The BAJA 13 was one such task that taught
many lessons in my life. The making of ATV not
only provided the knowledge of very basic auto-
motive world but also left me amazed with the
intricacy of so- simple- in look things . The team
work, troubleshooting, controlling the nerves
during bad times and then bouncing back like
wave was indeed a great learning experience in
all respects.

THANKS TO OUR ALUMNI
For a project of this scale, the availability of funds at the right time is major constraining factor. In the manu-
facturing phase, we were severely constrained by lack of funds. But, thanks to our generous alumni !!!
The financial help at crucial times and proper guidance that we received from alumni across the globe played
a significant role in nurturing our project and honing the skills of our team.
We are extremely thankful to North America, ZHCET Alumni Association, namely Dr. Arshan Khan ( Chrysler Group, Detroit ) and Mr. Sayed Naved ( President, Banyan Technology Solutions, USA ) who constantly guided our team since its inception. Fahad sir, the first person to whom we went with innocent faces saying-”
We want to establish SAE club.. guide us sir “ & momentarily the reply saying– “ Yes, why not.. Go ahead “. This sin-
gle phrase encompasses everything which is visible today in one year span of SAE.
Nafees sir– an epitome of strength, as strict as father, as caring as a friend, a disciplinarian yet always so approach-
able and warm at heart.
Still today , both of our mentors leave no stone unturned to motivate and guide us accordingly. We are thankful to
both strong pillars of our club because without them it would not have been possible———From TEAM DOERS
