Financials: $61.7m total project price
Lifetime: 12 years
Description: Top 10 largest railway in the world with >$7B in annual revenue and more than 150,000 employees. In this project HP will first implement and then manage for 12 years both the Energy Management solution and the IT infrastructure for that solution.
The HP solutions helps to reduce the 2nd largest expenditure at a Railways which is Energy by more than 15% per year. The onboard equipment combined with locomotive and centralized software enables the customer to optimize the whole process around Diesel and Electricity. It knows the exact amount on energy consumption by locomotive type, geography, route, etc. and automates key processes. By optimizing the speed, acceleration and breaking the Locomotives will run in their most efficient mode. Additionally Diesel theft will be detected.

ITSM Implementation @ Russian Railways
IT consolidation, optimization and operation
Description: Russian Railways is one of the biggest railway companies in the world with 85,500 km of track and 1.2 million employees. Almost 1.3 billion passengers travel via Russian Railways annually as well as 1.3 billion tons of freight. Russian Railways accounts for over 3.6 % of Russia’s GDP and handles almost 80% of all transportation in Russia. Unprecedented in its scale and complexity, the 50 year-old Russian Railways IT infrastructure had to be transformed. Russian Railways wanted an ITSM implementation partner that could deliver its own methodology and expertise, rather than simply selling a product for IT processes automation.HP established a unified IT helpdesk which deals with approximately 20,000 calls a day and closes 9.1 million work orders a year.IT costs are now 2 to 2.5 times lower than similar Russian companies

TTX Company - On the right track with HP virtualization portfolio
Datacenter Consolidation
Financials: $600K
Description: TTX owns and operates about 210,000 rail cars used by the biggest railways in the United States and Canada.
The company was looking for a reduction of its data center space, power and IT overhead while enhancing overall scalability, speed of response and reliability.
A switch from IBM hardware to VMware powered by HP ProLiant servers and Insight Control Management Software resulted in a modernized IT infrastructure with less data center space and power requirements.
The biggest IT improvements are: 96% reduction in recovery time, 12-fold increase in server deployment speed and fivefold reduction in server “touches”.
