About the General Editors: Guido Alpa Guido Alpa is the Vice President of the Italian Lawyers Society since 2001. He is full Professor of Civil Lawat the University of Rome “La Sapienza” and Professor of Anglo-American Law at the University of Genoa, where he hasbeen the Director of the Private Law Institute (1981 – 1989). He has been Visiting Professor at the Universities ofOregon (at Eugene), California (at Berkeley), Mannheim, London, Barcelona, Granada and Senior Teaching Fellow at theUniversity of Oxford, in the Institute of European and Comparative Law, where he remains a member of the AdvisoryCouncil. In 1996 he received an Honorary Doctorate Degree from the University Complutense of Madrid. Since 1998 hehas been Honorary Bencher in the Gray’s Inn. He was admitted to the Bar in Genoa in 1974 and to superior Jurisdictionsfrom 1984. He currently practices in his law firms in Genoa and Rome. He is also a member of the European ConsumerLaw Group and of the Administrative Board of the International Association of Insurance Law. He has been a member ofthe Administrative Board of the Italian Authority of Control of Insurance and is a member of several Law ReformCommissions. Professor Alpa has written books on civil law, financial markets contracts and regulation, consumerprotection, tort liability and comparative law. He has also published extensively in leading Italian and foreign legalreviews. He is a member of the editorial boards of several legal journals on civil and commercial law, tort liability andconsumer protection.
Mads Andenas is the Director of the British Institute of International and Comparative Law, Visiting Professor at KingsCollege London and at Queen Mary College, University of London. He is also a Senior Teaching Fellow at the Institute ofEuropean and Comparative Law, University of Oxford. Prior to joining the Institute in 1999 he was the Director of theCentre of European Law at King’s College, London. In 1998-1999 he was a Law Society Senior Research Fellow in CompanyLaw at the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, London. He holds the degrees of Cand. jur. from the University of Oslo, M.A.and D. Phil. from Oxford, and Ph.D. from Cambridge. From 1993-1996 he was Legal Adviser to the European Bank ofReconstruction and Development. He is a Barrister in England and Wales at Brick Court Chambers, a Bencher of InnerTemple, and is also admitted as an Advokat in Norway. Dr Andenas has published more than 40 books on EU law, bankinglaw, and comparative law. He is General Editor of the International and Comparative Law Quarterly, Editor of CompanyLawyer and of several renowned legal journals and books primarily in the areas of business law, financial law, law andeconomics, banking law and European law.
