From Naval Training Center to Arts District Liberty Station 1997 NTC closed after 75 years 1999 Marc Kasky of Fort Mason in San Francisco hired by the City of San Diego and then the Corky McMillin Companies to consult on the Civic, Arts and Cultural District 2000 NTC Foundation formed to restore 26 historic, architecturally significant buildings on 28 acres into a destination for arts, culture and creativity 2000 Founding Board of Directors formed led by Murray Galinson, Chair; Phil Blair, Victoria Hamiton, Gary Jacobs, Jesse Knight, Joe Martinez, Yvonne Murchason, Chuck Nathanson, Calvin Woo, Liz Yamada 2001 Nancy Nygren hired as Executive Director 2001 52 buildings designated as a Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places. 2003 Alan Ziter hired as Executive Director 2004 Phil Blair named Board Chair 2005 NTC Promenade Phase 1 Plans announced.
