Important Dates to Remember BEVERLY SILLS CHAPTER Fall is finally here, and our year is well underway. The Membership Co- Chairmen, Linda Miller and Ann Morley, hosted a New Members’ Coffee at Ann Morley’s home on October 26. It was a wonderful way to get to know some of our new members on a one-to-one basis. We are so excited about our new members. As they introduced themselves, we were very impressed with all the different accomplishments, careers, and talents each of these ladies will be bringing to our chapter. Dianne Howe, Director of Support Groups, has a new assistant, Julia Pearl, who is replacing Christine Flowers. Dianne and Julia are two la- dies who go above and beyond to help the chapters with whatever they need. Many of you met Dianne at the September meeting and we hope you have an opportunity to meet Julia, as she gets to know us as well. Our October meeting at Bonnie Clements’ home was a wonderful event. Everyone came with lots of bling and style—who knew we owned so much glitz and glamour? New member, Cheryl Bohn, won the best dressed “bling” outfit. She was dressed as Holly Golightly (from Break- fast at Tiffany’s) and she looked amazing! The entertainment was delight- ful and our board outdid themselves with delicious hors d’oeuvres. On Tuesday, November 15 we will meet at ChocXO for a unique gath- ering where we will learn many things about the art of chocolate-making. Following our time at ChocXO we will go to Angelina’s Pizzeria Napole- tana for a lovely lunch. I hope all of you are able to join us. All the fundraising committees are working hard, however, we need everyone’s support to make Cruisin’ in Style the best fundraiser ever. Watch for much more information coming in the next few months. Happy Thanksgiving to all. You are a blessing to us. Membership News

This has been a phenomenal year for Beverly Sills Chapter for membership. We are now 92 members strong, with 43 Actives and 49 Patrons, plus we have 15 new members. Thank you to everyone for being such terrific ambassadors for our chapter, The Guilds and the Center. Our first New Member Coffee was held at Ann Morley’s home on October 26, with seven of our new members and several of our Board members attend-ing. We played a fun “icebreaker” game that revealed one of our new members has her pilot’s license and owned her own airplane, while a Patron member par-tied with Elvis Presley in Bel Air! We’re not telling who they are but we’ll spill the beans at the November meeting...you won’t want to miss the BIG RE-VEAL!!But there is more…so much more...and we’ll be sharing fun facts about each new member with you in future newsletters! It was truly delightful for us to get to know our new members and find out about their interests and passions and some of their unique life experiences! What a wealth of talent we have in this group of new members. We are so excited to have them in Beverly Sills Chapter! How lucky are we!! We truly missed all of those new members who were not able to attend, as some were traveling and had previous commitments. But everyone had such an awesome time at the coffee that we promise to have another New Member event soon to give us time together. We can’t wait to find out more about you! If you have a friend or neighbor who is interested in the performing arts and wants to join Beverly Sills, please let us know. We would love to have them come to a meeting and see us in action! This is going to be a great year and a fun one! Lastly, we wish you all a happy and blessed Thanksgiving holiday! Linda Miller and Ann Morley, Membership Co-Chairmen

Cruisin’ in Style

Who: Beverly Sills Chapter Members What: Cruisin’ in Style Fashion Show Where: Island Hotel Newport Beach on Newport Center Drive/Fashion Island When: March 25, 2017 at 10:00 AM Why: Beverly Sills’ major fundraiser for Segerstrom Center for the Arts Programs

Welcome aboard the SS Arts Education!

Fall is in the air, the evenings are crisp and Thanksgiving is just around the corner, but who can think about basting that turkey and baking a pumpkin pie when we have Cruisin’ in Style rapidly approaching? Last week the chapter board and fashion show committee had the opportunity to meet our fashion show coordinator, Carole Latham, and they loved her!! She is dedicated to presenting a fabulous fashion show for all of us and our guests. You will be proud to be a part of this wonderful day. There are still some opportunities for you to participate on the fundraiser committee. Please talk to Eilene Fletcher to sign up. Some jobs are more visible and require more work than others, so there is something for everyone. All jobs are important and exciting! Save the Date cards have been mailed, so if you have not received yours, you should be receiving it any day. Please let Eilene or Marilyn McCorkle know if you have not re-ceived your card. If you have not yet sent Bev Sandelman the names of your friends, rela-tives or neighbors you would like to invite to our fundraiser, it is not too late. We can add them to our invitation list any time, so please contact Bev at [email protected] and give her their information. We want to fill the new ballroom this year!!! Once again this year, it is a requirement for Active members to donate $50 to help purchase silent auction items. If you are an Active member, please mail your check, payable to Beverly Sills Chapter, to Shari Cipolla, 59 Colony Way, Aliso Viejo, CA 92656 before January 15, 2017. Of course, we would be delighted if you would solicit items from businesses you patronize as well. Eilene has silent auction forms and letters available, so if you need any, please contact Eilene at 714-742-9851. DONATED ITEMS MUST BE NEW! NO GENTLY USED ITEMS CAN BE ACCEPTED FOR THE SILENT AUCTION OR TREASURE HUNT. Thank you for understanding. Till we set sail again,

Eilene Fletcher and Marilyn McCorkle, Ways & Means Co-Chairmen

Wil l ie Wonka & the Chocolate Factory

The next meeting of Beverly Sills Chapter will be held on Tuesday, November 15 at 10:30 AM at ChocXO Bean to Bar Chocolatier in Irvine. Following a brief business meeting, we will be given an informative presentation about the transformation of the cocoa bean to the chocolate good-ies we love. There will also be an opportunity to purchase various delectable chocolates...perfect for those unique holiday gifts you want. From the chocolate factory we will proceed to lunch at Angelina’s Pizzeria Napoletana, a short 2 to 3 minute drive. Space is limited for both the chocolate factory and the luncheon, so reservations are required. The cost for both is $30 total, so please send your check, made payable to Beverly Sills Chapter, to:

Susan Adams 5 Avenida Cristal

San Clemente, CA 92673 The deadline for reservations is Wednesday, November 9. If you have any questions, please contact Susan at 949-481-4155 or at [email protected]. What’s up in January?

Put this date on your calendars now: Beverly Sills’ Annual Bun-co/Burger Blast on Tuesday, January 17 at the Vintage Steak House, 26701 B Verdugo Street, in San Juan Capistrano at 11:30 AM. As we have done for the past several years, we will have a meeting followed by a hamburger luncheon, ending with our rousing game of bunco. Stay tuned for more detailed information in future newsletters. This is always a fun-filled event and is the perfect meeting for guests. At the January meeting we will be sharing even more of the plans for the Cruisin’ in Style fundraiser, so this is an excellent way for new and pro-spective members to learn about our fundraising activities and exactly how we support the Center. In addition, the fun meter registers an ex-tremely high number, so who could resist the fun times? Invite away!! This is also the meeting where we make an all-out effort to tie up the loose ends for the fundraiser. Bring your items for the Treasure Hunt so that the Treasure Hunt committee can begin assembling the bags. We plan to have a minimum of 100 bags filled with items that are guaranteed to be worth at least $10 or $20. Remember, this is a very popular item at our fundraiser, so the more goodies we can gather for the Treasure Hunt, the more bags we can sell! As a matter of fact, you can bring your Treas-ure Hunt items to the November meeting! We also will be making a big plea for underwriters for the Fashion Show at the January meeting. With so much going on, it is an exciting and enervating day! Plan to have tons of fun!!!

Toys for Tots The 2016 Guilds’ Toys for Tots Drive will be held on December 6 and 7 at the Center, under the leadership of our own Linda Miller. Toys will be gladly accepted at the November meeting and at the Toy Drive itself. However, to make toy delivery even easier on our members who can’t make it to the chapter meeting, three of our members have volunteered to be toy delivery centers. For those who live near Laguna Hills, Linda Miller will accept toys at her house. In addition, two other elves will accept toys at their homes: Judy Kelley, who lives in Coto de Caza and Anne Marie Eck- man, who lives in Mission Viejo. All three will be very hap- py to receive your toy deliveries at any time, either at the upcom- ing November chapter meeting or at their homes. Just give them a call before you stop by with your toy deliveries. Call Linda at 949-831-5202; call Judy at 949-589-8536; call Anne Marie at 949-582-1858. We know how easy it is to buy for the little ones. But don’t for-get that pre-teens and teenagers need gifts, too. Look for makeup, nail polish, sport balls or equipment, t-shirts, jewelry, purses, sport bags, beach bags, craft kits or anything else that will appeal to children who are older. And, as a reminder, abso-lutely no stuffed animals, please. As an added incentive, the Center is once again giving four tickets to a performance at the Center. This year’s performance will be the holiday favorite, the American Ballet Theatre's The Nutcracker! Each member donating toys will be given a ticket for a chance to win this fabulous prize. When you deliver your toys, be sure you receive a ticket. Fill out the required information on the ticket and then give it to Anne Marie, Judy or Linda. They will see to it that your name is entered in the draw-ing, which will be held at the conclusion of the Toy Drive. What a fantastic opportunity!

A WORD FROM OUR TOY DRIVE CHAIRMAN

Linda Miller used a shopping day for Toys for Tots as a lesson for her grandchildren in philanthropy. In late October, Linda took her grandkids shop- ping at Target to spend the money that had already been donated for Toys for Tots. Target had a sale on certain items and she let her grandkids pick all the toys. From the photo that she sent, I’d say everyone had a fantastic time! Maybe some other of our members will want to take their grandchil- dren toy shopping and teach them about giving back to kids less fortunate. Thanks for sharing the idea, Linda!
