GREEN VALLEY ELKS LODGE #2592 All American Lodge 1995-1996, 2000-2001
(Tel.) 520-625-2592
FROM OUR EXALTED RULER . . .
You, the member, contributes to our Lodge in some ways by just paying dues. Even though
one is unable to be as active as he/she wishes, you are still important to our team. B.P.O.E.
is the premier charitable and patriotic organization in the United States. There is always a
tangible and emotional benefit we receive in return for our participation in the Lodge. Thank
you for your support.
Our first meeting in September, Monday the 14th, the Lodge will have a brief blessing and dedication to
our donated Bible: The Book of Law. The one that has been used the last 36 years is on its last legs.
It will be permanently housed under glass at the Greeters Desk.
Kick up your boots!!! Arizona Elks 1st Vice President Al Skorupski and his lovely wife will be here for
the Western Barbeque on September 20th. Look for next month’s flyers and e-blasts.
Hunger is an ongoing dilemma in our community. Please donate imperishable goods in our newly
decorated Food Bank Box located beside the front door.
Appreciation abounds from our veterans at the VA Hospital and Home for your generous donations of
puzzles, games and clothing. The expanded list of veteran’s items will be in the September Thunder.
School starts in August. School Supplies are needed for our kids in this community who already
depend on assistance programs to survive. Paper, #2 pencils, notebooks, erasers, etc. are greatly
appreciated. The blue “School Box” is in the lobby of the Lodge for your contributions.
Thank you for supporting our Lodge in any way you can.
Fraternally,
Susan Trecartin, Exalted Ruler
The Elks Thunder; August, 2015
The following is an article from the Grand Lodge Convention News which the editors have asked to
be published in all the lodge newsletters. With our lounge being of significant service to our lodge,
I’d like to pass these thoughts along to our members:
RESPONSIBLE SERVICE AND USE OF ALCOHOL
By Grand Lodge Insurance Department
A recent verdict totaling $28 million (including $10 million in punitive damages) was rendered against
a Local Lodge; it was alleged that a non-Elks member was improperly served alcohol while attending
an Elks sponsored function that was open to the public.
This verdict has created a significant financial burden on the Master Liability Program, which provides
insurance coverage for Local Lodges but, more importantly, it has presented a negative image for the
Order.
All Elks members have a duty to be aware of the need for the responsible service and use of alcohol
as it pertains to themselves and the service provided by their Lodge. All those responsible for the
service of alcohol should be made aware of the fact that no person approaching intoxication should
ever be served and anyone who violates this policy will be dismissed.
The Master Liability Program was created to give Local Lodges the ability to operate bar facilities that
serve Lodge members and their guests; Lodges should not be serving alcohol to the public.
Each and every Elks Member should demonstrate an awareness of this situation – and how it affects
him/her on both a personal and fraternal basis – by ensuring their Lodge is operating in a responsible
manner and raising concerns when issues are brought to light.
Fraternally,
Carol Sturdevant, PER, Lodge Secretary
FROM OUR LODGE SECRETARY . . .

FROM OUR AUXILIARY PRESIDENT . . .
We will be helping with the DD Clinic on August 16th. I will need a few to volunteer with visiting members and to
serve lunch. If you would like to volunteer, please give me a call. You can leave a message if I'm not home;
otherwise, I will be calling you.
The Veterans Administration (VA) is looking for lap quilts for their wheelchair bound veterans. The quilts can be
quilted, crocheted, or knitted. The quilts should be approximately three feet square, lightweight, and washable.
They will be donated to the VA Hospital and the VA Home. Please bring them to the Lodge office and give them
to Susan Trecartin, Exalted Ruler.
Also remember that we have our weekly social every Wednesday from 3 to 5 in the lounge. It's fun and lots of
laughs. We started out small but it is getting large again; so come out to meet some new friends.
Fraternally, Jeanne Walker Auxiliary President
Hi ladies,
Hope you're enjoying your summer wherever you are. Remember to save your hotel toiletries
for our December Christmas party at Del Coronado. Also keep looking for recipes for our new
project "The Auxiliary Cookbook". We would like to get started in September.
FROM OUR LEADING KNIGHT . . .
Greetings to all of my fellow Elks!
I hope all of you, whether you are here locally, or summering elsewhere, are enjoying a happy and
healthy summer. I would like to thank those members who continue to frequent and support our
Lodge during our summer months. The Lodge Officers appreciate you all! Speaking of members,
if you know anyone who might be interested in joining our Lodge, please encourage them to do so. There are
those of us who don’t realize all the good that Elks do for the community. We would like to see more people join
us in helping others. The Order of Elks was organized for the purpose of doing good, as well as a meeting place
for enjoying friendship and brotherhood. There is strength in numbers, and we hope to not only retain the loyal
members we have, but to grow and help our Lodge continue to do the good we have always done for our
community.
Fraternally,
Peggy Najar Esteemed Leading Knight

ENF Enables Lodges to Serve Their Community.
ENF or the Elks National Foundation helps Elks build stronger communities. They do this by
supporting program’s youth, meeting needs in areas where Elks live and work, and by serving
veterans.
When your Lodge uses the ENF Community Investments Program Grants effectively, our
community will look to the Elks as leaders in service. This program is the largest program and
nationwide is funded at 9.77 million dollars. It invests in Elks communities through Lodge grants
that help Elks meet local needs. This is a breakdown of the grants that are available.
BEACON GRANTS. $2000 grants available to all Elks Lodges for an ongoing, charitable
Elks-driven community project.
GRATITUDE GRANTS. $2000 grants available to Lodges that meet the National
President’s per-member goal for giving to ENF (some Lodges are eligible for up to $2500
depending on their per capita giving). These grants can be used to serve a variety of community
needs.
PROMISE GRANTS. $2500 grants available to the first 500 Lodges that apply to hold an
eligible youth event.
IMPACT GRANTS. Competitive grants of up to $10,000 designed to help Lodges change
their communities in a meaningful and significant way.
FREEDOM GRANTS. In addition, the Veterans Service Commission offers $2000 Freedom
Grants to hold projects that serve veterans and active-duty military members in need.
These grants offer our Lodge an opportunity to serve our community. Without your support, ENF
will not have the funds to provide these services to your community. If you have not yet made a
donation please consider doing so. My goal is for 1000 of our members to donate $10 per year
and 100 members to donate $100 per year. When I receive your donation I will gladly give you a
red ENF heart to put on your membership card to show your support of this very worthwhile
program.
Fraternally,
Frank Sturdevant ENF Chairman
