If you would like your painting as a header on the website, then please send a nice photo and I can put it in. It would be lovely to change them every month or so, and more publicity for your work. On the “Odds and Ends” page, I will be putting all sorts of different information. No order to it, just links, photos, interesting things that may add on to what we have learned in demonstrations, eg I have just put on good information regarding art mediums after Kate's talk to us on Thursday. Have a look on a regular basis and certainly feel free to send ideas and information to include. Make your own website. We will revisit that after the Exhibition and we start to settle down towards the end of the year. And a BIG WELCOME to our new members : Sue Gibson, Hayley McLachlan and Pauline Perkins. We all hope you enjoy our company and make lots of new like minded friends.

You have admired her work often in our meetings and exhibitions. This month, one of our own members is doing a demonstration on drawing.

“My love of art came as a very young child, keen to colour in, so I am self taught. Growing up, drawing was my retreat and I started drawing boxes hence having a good eye for drawing and painting houses, but sadly I put my art away as a young mum and did not pick up another pencil until my 3 teenage children were sending me to the brink of insanity. I went on with much encouragement from my husband to have watercolour lessons and have not put my brush back away for 25 years and hopefully never will, as my love for art and drawing is a part of me as a person and I don’t think I could function without it in my life it brings me a sense of peace and calm to my soul.

Lynn will be showing us her tips and techniques on drawing including her beautiful way of extending a picture outside the paper onto the mount. At the Exhibition, she will be completing some of her works as a demonstration with watercolour or ink wash. WHAT TO BRING Graphite pencils in various grades. Reasonable quality drawing paper Eraser and sharpener.

TEXTURE was the name of the game in

Kate’s fabulous demonstration. Here is a summary of items used—and some photos of works in progress. Workshop participants have been asked to bring in their finished pieces next meeting, so we can all see what they achieved. PRODUCTS: Heavy Gel Medium—dries clear and softer Impasto and Texture Paste—dries harder, but dulls colour a little Joining compounds / plaster cement from Hardware stores—may not be archival and not flexible. Great for stamping shapes into it. Keep texture compounds to 6mm, or they may not dry properly, or may crack later. Derivian Kindy Glitz—great for drawing lines. APPLYING TEXTURE Use lace doiles, string, gauze bandaging, net fruit bags, combs, tissue paper as a base or added on top texture. Big scrapers make great trees. Fine steel wool, glued on with self levelling gel, add some acid and a nice rust will result. Pouring—mix paint with flow medium, or Floetrol ( from hardware stores, may have to be ordered—Home hardware at Morisset will get it in for you). Mix 1/2 medium to paint. Then add water so that it’s nice and cream like. That is the trick and requires some experimentation as all paints are different. When dry, paint over with an imaginative inspiration.

THE RULEs There are no rules. Do

what feels right and looks good!

SUMMARY OF COMMITTEE MEETING July 2018

Report on Library Exhibition Denise and Stephanie had a very positive meeting with Julie Dunn, Natalie Kozary and Sandy Dezilva regarding the upcoming Library Exhibitions and they found that both the library spaces were surprisingly large and approachable. This means that we need more paintings to fill the space and the paintings can be up to 1 sq. mtre. Those who have submitted one painting already will be asked to submit another. A) A list of paintings will be sent to Julie Dunn during September B) 25% commission will be charged on all sales C) Paintings need to be at the library on Monday 19 November. A list of exhibitors will be sent to others at each library to others at the same library so they can get together to share the taking and collection if they so desire. It will be the artists’ responsibility to get their paintings there and back D) An event will be held at each venue in January. At this event we will have someone talking about Art Lovers Movement and as many exhibiting artists as possible should be present, so they can answer questions about their art E) EVENT DATES: Belmont: Tuesday 20th January at 5.30 - 6.30 pm Toronto: Thursday 22nd January at 5.30 - 6.30 pm ALM will provide some wine and cheese Set up Date: Belmont and Toronto: 19 November Library opening hours Take Down: Belmont: Monday 11 February 10-11 am Toronto: Saturday 9 February 10-11 am These will also be the pick up dates for sold paintings.
