GOSPEL CHURCH MISSION VOLUME 2 November 27, 2016 Number 47 Greetings Southside Family, Praise the Lord! What an amazing time of worship, fellowship and encourage- ment this past Sunday was in the life of our church. Thank you to all who worked long and hard to make this special day possible. In particular, Janice Kelley and the Hospitality Team who sacrificed much of their time to serve our church a wonderful Thanksgiving meal. We love and appreciate each of you. And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, returned, and with a loud voice glorified God, and fell down on his face at His feet, giving Him thanks.(Luke 17:15-16). Luke 17:11-19 provides the account of Jesus heal- ing ten lepers. There are many remarkable things about that miracle but most striking is that only one of the men who were healed turned back to glorify God and to give thanks to Jesus. This Thanksgiving weekend let s pause and take deliberate and intentional time to praise God for His mighty acts in our lives and the life of His church. My family and I will be out of town this weekend and will miss worshiping with our church family. I will be back in the office Monday morning and look forward to sharing the Word with you Wednesday night. As I write my article this week, Im reminded of the privilege of being a pastor, and the distinct priv- ilege of being your pastor at Southside. Thank you for your support and love! I am praying this morning for Dewayne Efurd and Jonathan Tomlin as they will be preaching today and tonight at Southside. Join me in praying for them as they prepare to share the Word of God with you today. I will say to the Lord, My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.(Psalm 91:2). There is no other reliance needed for a child of God! In Christ, Bro. Stacy From the Pastors Heart

GOSPEL CHURCH MISSION

VOLUME 2 November 27, 2016 Number 47

Greetings Southside Family,

Praise the Lord! What an amazing time of worship, fellowship and encourage-ment this past Sunday was in the life of our church. Thank you to all who worked long and hard to make this special day possible. In particular, Janice Kelley and the Hospitality Team who sacrificed much of their time to serve our church a wonderful Thanksgiving meal. We love and appreciate each of you.

“And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, returned, and with a loud voice glorified God, and fell down on his face at His feet, giving Him thanks.” (Luke 17:15-16). Luke 17:11-19 provides the account of Jesus heal-ing ten lepers. There are many remarkable things about that miracle but most striking is that only one of the men who were healed turned back to glorify God and to give thanks to Jesus. This Thanksgiving weekend let’s pause and take deliberate and intentional time to praise God for His mighty acts in our lives and the life of His church.

My family and I will be out of town this weekend and will miss worshiping with our church family. I will be back in the office Monday morning and look forward to sharing the Word with you Wednesday night. As I write my article this week, I’m reminded of the privilege of being a pastor, and the distinct priv-ilege of being your pastor at Southside. Thank you for your support and love!

I am praying this morning for Dewayne Efurd and Jonathan Tomlin as they will be preaching today and tonight at Southside. Join me in praying for them as they prepare to share the Word of God with you today.

In Christ,

Bro. Stacy

SOUTHSIDE HISTORY

1940

A small group of people met at Sou ths ide Elementary Schoo l to form a Baptist Mission on March 26, 1944. A building fund was s tarted and $250 was given. Groundbreaking for our first unit was August 29, 1945, and the first meeting in our ‘roughed-in’ building was October 20, 1946. On January 26, 1947, Southside Baptist Church was consti-tuted with 78 Charter Members, and Rev. Oland Wilson was called as our first pastor in February. (His weekly salary was $55). In 1948 the church bought the J.A. Williams house located beside our first building as a pastorium. Our total budget that year was $15,000. In 1949 we petitioned the City of Dothan to put in curbing on Cotton-wood Road so the state could widen it.

Greetings everyone,

Although Thanksgiving Day has come and gone, let’s continue to have an attitude of thanks and praise. Hebrews 13:15 says, “Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise.”

There will be an informational meeting for those going on the Christmas trip on Monday, December 5th at 5:00 p.m. If you have not paid the extra $40.00 for the chartered bus, please make plans to do so no later than this meeting.

Sr. Adults, if you would like to go to the Rotary Luncheon on Monday, December 12th, please let me know so that I can reserve a spot for you (no charge). We will leave the church at 11:15.

Our Sr. Adult Christmas luncheon will be Tuesday, December 13th. The menu is: Baked Ham, Potato Salad, Baby Limas, and Red Velvet Cake. Please see a committee member for your $5.00 ticket.

Blessings,

Mrs. Rhonda

Good morning,

Have you ever had moments of doubt? Doubt is a natural human behavior. We are all sus-ceptible to moments of doubt. The Bible records several people that had moments of doubt. The Doubting Thomas has become a figure of speech that most can relate to. Thomas was an eye witness to the miracles of Jesus. He was a member of the “hand-picked” twelve that traveled, lived with, learned from, and served Jesus. He was also served personally by Je-sus, and yet he doubted. Thomas said he would not believe that Jesus had risen from the grave unless he could put his hand in the wound in Jesus’ side and hands; John 20:27 rec-ords that Jesus allowed Thomas to do just that. Thomas is normally defined by that doubt. He repented from the doubtful thought of Jesus’ power and proclaimed, “My Lord and my God!” (John 20:28) Then Jesus replied to him, “Have you believed because you have seen Me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” (John 20:29) John rec-orded his purpose for writing his book that we know as the Gospel according to John. Im-mediately following the discourse between Jesus and Thomas, he writes, “but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believ-ing you may have life in His name.” (20:31) Christ is King of kings and Lord of lords, and we can rest in the fact that He reigns supreme!

Solus Christus,

Bro. D.
