Haunted Hoaxes Superlatives fail me as I reflect on both the outstanding performance within the show, and the feedback received from people. What an absolute success and to see that all our students were involved is nothing short of exceptional. An example of some feedback: I had the pleasure of attending the BPS Musical last night and felt it necessary to let you know how impressed I was with the performance. Every aspect was performed with brilliance. The dance, music, acting, costumes were all of such a high standard rarely found in primary school productions. Then to top it off, the knowledge that the students had written the script, was even more amazing. Congratulations to all the support team who ensured everyone was in the right place at the right time! And every word was so clearly heard. Please pass on my congratulations to all involved for an outstanding success in Public Education! Thank you to Roz Everson, Kate Sommerville, Grant Watson, Jackie Lee & Liz Scott – brilliant teachers! Page 1

Roz Everson This Friday afternoon, Roz Everson is being honoured as an outstanding teacher at a special awards ceremony hosted by the Australian College of Educators (ACE). What an absolute honour to have her with us on staff. (And she is just one several we could have nominated from our school!)

Yours in partnership Graeme Ross, Principal HAUNTED HOAXES The Haunted Hoaxes was a great musical because Stage 3 put lots of hard work into it.The play was about a class that was ungrateful and dissapointed in everything and the teacher wanted to teach them a lesson to be greatful and lucky. So one day she organised a class excursion to the Addams Family Museum where she would dress up other pupils in scary costumes with the help of two good students, Laylah and Logan,

Laylah, Jamika, Serenity, Dashel, Tayla, Lucy and Brodie were the main characterss and they did a great job. In the end they were scared in the Museum from the spiders, spooky, scary skeletons, maths monster and much more. It was great! CANTEEN NEWS At the time of the Roman conquest of western Europe the indigenous Gauls and Brittons celebrated the “day of the dead” 40 days after the Autumn equinox. Later as the Romans Christianised their empire they tried to stamp out pagan rituals and replace them with politically correct rituals like “All Saints Day” (or All Hallows Day) instead of “day of the dead”. Alas the now Christian Celts chose to forgo the demands of P.C. and continued to celebrate the day of the dead on All Hallows Eve or as it became known, Halloween. This once pagan tradition was transported to the new world where it was transformed into a means by which children could extort candy from strangers once a year. This has been recently adopted by Australians and now means that on this Tuesday evening children from Bellingen and Ballina, Taree and Tamworth, will roam the streets expecting to get loaded up with the means to develop hyperactivity, indigestion and tooth decay. To offset some of the negative effects of this imported imposition, you school canteen will have a healthy lunch available on Tuesday disguised as a Halloween meal to fill the tummies of our pretend ghouls and goblins with some food of nutritional value. This will comprise of a toasted vegetable cake made to look like a Jack ‘o Lantern served on a bed of salad.

The canteen menu includes vegetarian burgers. These were included in response to requests by parents and to conform to the Healthy Canteens guidelines. Although requested by some parents, these have not been as popular as the requests would have indicated. To help promote these reportedly sought after delicacies, the special this week will therefore be Vegetarian burgers served with fresh school garden salad in a toasted bun. As usual it will only be available on Thursday and Friday at the new price of $5.00. The popularity of this special will indicate whether they are worthwhile retaining on the menu.
