Dear Parents/Caregivers,
It is hard to believe that we’re already over halfway through Term 1 and Easter is only a few
weeks away. Our staff and students have been very busy establishing routines, and it has been
lovely to walk through classes and see lots of learning occurring.
Student Leaders
The students who nominated for these roles demonstrated a great deal of Personal Excellence, Resilience and Confidence
when undertaking their speeches. All students presented themselves very professionally in a situation that is not always
easy. Many students applied, but unfortunately, not everyone can receive a position. All students demonstrated Kindness
and Respect for their fellow students who were successful or unsuccessful. It’s wonderful to see such a supportive group
of students, who lead without a title.
Safety Procedures
We have started to lock the side gates to the school between 9 and 2:30 for the safety of the students. If you need to collect
your child during the day, they need to be signed out and back in at the front office. If you are coming in for parent help or
dropping something you will need to sign in and out at the office as well. These procedures are for security and safety
reasons. If we have an evacuation, these records are taken with us to ensure that everyone is safe. We appreciate your
support with this.

Swimming
Swimming has gone very well over the past two weeks, and mostly the weather has been kind as well. There were quite
a few apprehensive students before they started, but as a whole, most of the students have enjoyed going to the beach. I
had the opportunity to experience a session on Thursday and found it enjoyable. Reminded me of my childhood in
Esperance, where swimming lessons occurred every year at the beach.
P & C/School Board
We have seen a great start to the year in regards to community involvement at our P & C AGM meeting. It was good to
seen new and old families attending to ensure the best outcomes for the students in our school.
At the Board Meeting we farewelled Tracey Hall, she had served on the Board since 2015, her dedication as a staff
representative has been appreciated. We welcomed new staff members Natasha Robinson and Kirsty Williams, who will
bring a wealth of knowledge. Aaron Rolt has joined as a new community member, he was a past student from Singleton
PS and now works as a Real Estate agent in the community. New parent members welcomed were Trudy Owens and
Anthony Nemeth, we appreciate them taking the time to join the Board. We welcome back Annette Rolt, Victoria Copeland
and Rory Flanagan.
Rory Flanagan has taken on the role of P & C President as well as the Board Chair position. We appreciate Rory’s
contributions to the community.
Kiss and Drop
I know I mentioned this in the last newsletter; however, I believe there needs to be another reminder. The Kiss and Drop
area at the front of the school is an area to ensure that children who are not being walked in and out of school can access
a vehicle safely. If you are walking your child into school, I ask that you park in the surround areas of the school. If utilising
Kiss and Drop, please stay in your car and move forward as positions become available. We appreciate your support with
this area.
We have some fantastic events coming up to celebrate as we make our way towards the end of the term. I look forward to
seeing you all at these events.
Regards
Mrs Leanne Allen Principal

Friday the 21st of February was the big day…...Election Day! Nigel from the WAEEC attended the school and the nominees
set up their campaign tables outside of Yellow Block.
The students had prepared badges and flyers to keep promoting themselves as suitable Student Councillor Candidates and
to help persuade those voters that were still a little undecided.
All Yellow Block students voted, and staff were also offered the opportunity to vote. A very big thank you to Nigel and his
team at the WAEEC, who then took the ballot box away for counting and delivered us those all-important results.
Votes were returned back from Nigel the following week and the results were very close. On Friday the 28 th of February
was the exciting Leadership Assembly where the following lucky 8 students were presented with their badges.
1. Head Boy – Tahana 2. Head Girl – Ella 3. Penny 4. Kai 5. Georgia
6. Haylee 7. Ruby-Rose 8. Chelsea
Congratulations to our Student Councillors for 2020.
I am looking forward to working with you this year!

In-Term Beach Swimming Lessons Our year 3- 6 students have had the opportunity to participate in beach safety sessions at Doddi's Beach over the last 2
weeks. The students have been learning about how to be safe on our coastline, how to deal with rips, strong currents,
waves, first aid and also progressing their swimming techniques. At times we had some chilly water, seaweed, a few jelly
fish and some dolphins that came to say hi.
Our students’ behaviour and attitude has been outstanding throughout, well done to all students who got involved!

PBS Poster Competition
Singleton Primary School is in the process of implementing a school wide approach to behaviour management called
Positive Behaviour Support (WAPBS). This is a school wide strategy for helping all students achieve important social and
learning goals. As part of the WAPBS program we are establishing clear behaviour expectations for all school community
members in all areas of our school.
We will explicitly teach these behaviours to all students and acknowledge them frequently for their positive behaviour. The
expectations for all student behaviour will be clear throughout our buildings and playground areas. The school behaviour
expectations will build on our social/emotional and academic learning program, promote a positive school environment and
give more time for teaching and learning. By detailing expected behaviours and teaching them to students in a positive way,
we will provide a common language and understanding for everyone in our school to be successful.
We believe that by helping students practice good behaviour, we will build a school community where all students can
succeed and grow. The school wide behaviour expectations are:
Safety Personal Excellence Honesty Respect Kindness
We are asking the school community to help us by creating a poster of the 5 Behaviour Expectations. Entrants are
encouraged to create a mascot or logo that represents the expectations and our school culture.
Poster Criteria. Your entry must...
Be on A4 or A3 paper
Have the 5 Behaviour Expectations listed
Include symbols or pictures
Represent the Singleton Primary School community
Be submitted by Friday, 20th March, 2020
The winning poster will have their concept professionally produced and will be made into visuals that will be on display
throughout the school and on our website. We also intend to produce characters or mascots from your entry that will be
made into full size costume. This competition is open to everyone in the community so please get involved! Entries may
be individual, group, class or family entries. If you would like any further information, please ask to speak to one of our PBS
Team on 9537 3199.
Kind Regards
