Primary School Hello Parents, Caregivers and Community Members, The first 3 weeks of this school year have passed quickly and with a minimum of fuss or disruption with the exception of swimming lessons. Credit is to be given to all of our school community (students, parents and staff) for enabling this to happen so early in the year. Several reminders for the early part of the year are: When a student is away for any reason, parents must inform the school as to the reason for such an absence as soon as possible on return. All absences need a reasonable excuse – going shopping or visiting relatives are not reasonable excuses. Attendance is again a priority for the Education Department in 2015. We will continue the minimum 90% attendance criterion for attending our Incentival or other rewards events. Please return the following to the school as soon as possible – Student Health Forms and Excursion Permission Notes which were sent home earlier this term. These are very important as they enable us to monitor and manage any health issues with our students. Voluntary school fees ($55.00 per student) can be paid at the office at any time during the school day. Many thanks to those parents who have paid – the money has already been put to good use with the purchase of additional literacy and numeracy materials. Payment can be made through EFTPOS, Bank Transfer or cash at the front office. All visitors to the schools must sign in at the office before entering the school grounds. This is for several reasons - including and most importantly, the safety of all children. Pets, mainly dogs, are not to be brought into the school grounds at any time. Again, safety is an issue as is the concern for students who suffer allergies. Dog owners must take responsibility for cleaning up their pet’s mess if on our school oval. Of late, this has become a major concern. Many children at these schools have allergies to nut products and in some cases, severe reactions can occur. Please do not use any nut products in recess and lunch foods. Students arriving before 8:25am MUST report to and stay in the Undercover Area – no student or their parents are to wait outside of classrooms before 8:25am. Parents – you can use the Achiever Alcove as a waiting area. Jewellery of any sort, except ear studs or sleepers and watches, is not to be worn to school. Well done everyone for the nearly 100% wearing of the school uniform. The new design of polos and faction shirts look great. Parent helpers are always welcome into the school so if you can help out, see your child’s class teacher. Congratulations on a great start to the 2015 school year. Alan Hansen - Principal Education Support Centre Hi everyone, We’ve had a fantastic start to 2015 and it’s been very busy in all our classrooms. Swimming lessons in our senior classes have almost finished with a swim in the middle of these hot days coming as a welcome relief. Room 25 students are currently going to Hydrotherapy at StateSwim in Secret Harbour each Monday morning, all our lessons are up and running and everyone is working really hard in their classrooms! I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to spend time in all the classes in these first few weeks and I am very impressed with the way the students have settled back into school so well. You should pop in and see the wonderful work that is going on across our Schools, I’m sure you will be very impressed as well. Class meetings are being conducted in our classrooms over the next few weeks and I hope you get the opportunity to touch base with your child’s teacher. IEP meetings will be taking place very soon so please make an appointment with your child’s teacher so that we can work together on your child’s individual learning plan for this semester. At the end of this term (dated to be advised when confirmed) the local Education Support Centres will once again be holding their annual Beach Carnival at Bell Park (Wanliss Street) Rockingham. We’d love to see all our parents come down and join us for all the fun. In the past we have always had the biggest parent support group for the carnival so let’s do the same again this year! Don’t forget your hat and sunscreen though. The Beach Carnival runs until lunchtime so please join us for any or all of the day. Students PLEASE remember to wear your hats to school every day because they are needed at EVERY recess and lunchtime as well as for Fitness and Sport lessons. If you’d like to bring a spare and keep it in your school bag for emergencies please do so. FAF News

As a FAF (Friendly and Fun) school, Endeavour aims to provide all students with a safe, friendly and fun environment in which to learn and play. For maintaining our FAF status, students are rewarded with an “Incentival”. In order to be eligible for the Incentival, students need to show excellent behaviour, have 90 – 100% attendance including arriving at school on time, consistently wear school uniform and complete their schoolwork. Please note that 5 or more unexplained absences (i.e. without medical certificates) and/or 10 or more late arrivals will exclude students from attending the Incentival. Students not eligible to attend will be provided with a work package and supervised by a member of staff for the duration of the Incentival. Please note that one or more of the following will result in exclusion from the Incentival in any given term: • 4 or more Reflection Sheets • 2 or more Buddy Sheets • 1 or more Detentions or Withdrawals • Suspension • 6 or more FOZ sessions • 10 or more Late arrivals • 5 or more absences without medical certificates • A combination of lates and absences (e.g. 6 lates and

2 unexplained absences = no Incentival)

Community Notices

Please check the noticeboard outside the staffroom and office windows regularly

for community events and sporting information received by the schools. Notices in

the Community Advertising section are inserted for your information. The schools

are not associated with any of these groups or businesses.

Endeavour Schools have EFTPOS facilities available in the front office. This facility can be

used for payments over $10 such as contributions, swimming lessons or

excursions. Smaller amounts must go through the class money books.

Parents can now make payments in advance for any future expenses such as swimming lessons, incentivals and excursions. These payments will be held as credit in your child’s account and then

allocated against excursions as they occur. Payment can be made by cash, EFTPOS or direct

deposit. If you require any more information, please see the front office.

COLOUR BLINDNESS and SCOLIOSIS

A pamphlet on colour blindness and scoliosis will be distributed soon to all Year 6 students. Colour Blindness means that a person cannot 'see' some colours (usually greens, yellows, oranges and reds) or that they see these colours differently from other people. Please take the time to read the pamphlet and if you have any concerns please see the more information section on the back of the pamphlet or contact me via the school. Scoliosis is a common growth disturbance that develops slowly, usually during early adolescence (10-13 years) causing an abnormal sideways curve of the spine. Examination is the only way to detect a curve in the spine and thus enable treatment for your child if required. Parents and children please take the time to read through the pamphlet and check for any imbalance or asymmetry in the spine as described in the pamphlet. If you have any concerns about a possible curve in your child’s spine or for further information please contact your Family Doctor or the Community Health Nurse through your school. Thank you Merilyn Dare Community Health Nurse

Do you want to play footy?

The Port Kennedy Junior Football Club is still taking registrations for all Auskick (PP, Yrs 1& 2) and Junior (Yrs 3, 4, 5, 6 &7) boys and girls. Registrations will be held on Sunday, 22nd February 2015, starting at 9am until 11am, at the Port Kennedy Primary School oval. For enquiries please ring Nicola 0413 584 977 or Mick 0478 880 632

Thank you to all the families who made it to the Welcome to the West Event last Sunday. It was a great day and we received excellent

feedback regarding the Defence School program that we offer. I hope you had a great family fun day out!

I am now planning for Endeavour Schools Centenary Anzac Service on Friday 24 th April and would be grateful if there are any service

personnel who can donate any old uniform items. I am trying to obtain at least 1 or 2 full uniforms so we can use for display/

educational purposes in the school. Anything you may have would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone have a relative who is serving or ex serving Military personnel? If so, I am looking for Military pictures/portraits of Family members, past or present

(a photocopy will do or I will scan the original and return to you). A description of the picture/person and the family connection would also be an advantage.

These can be handed in at the front office as soon as possible.

I will be holding a Defence family Morning tea on Thursday 19th March at 9.30am and would love to catch up, have a coffee and welcome new families to

Endeavour Schools.
