National School Counseling Week
National School Counseling Week, sponsored by the American School Counselor
Association (ASCA), will be celebrated from Feb. 3–7, 2020, to focus public attention on the
unique contribution of professional school counselors within U.S. school systems and how
students are different as a result of what school counselors do. National School Counseling Week
highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school
success and plan for a career.
The special week honoring school counselors provides recognition for school counselors
who implement comprehensive school counseling programs, a vital part of the educational
process for all students as they meet the challenges of the 21st century.
"School counselors work with all students to remove barriers to learning by
addressing students’ academic concerns, personal/social skills and career awareness in post-
secondary options,” said Kwok-Sze Wong, Ed.D., ASCA executive director. “Comprehensive
school counseling programs help to increase student achievement and provide a much-needed
resource for students, parents, teachers and administrators. School counselors are integral to
student success.
Please join the entire Miami East School District in thanking and recognizing all that our
counselors do for the students and district!

Fifth Grade National Anthem Before last week’s home varsity basketball game, our fifth grade students had an
opportunity to sing the National Anthem. They did an amazing job as they represented our
school with integrity. It is nice to see so many of our elementary students participating and
supporting events at our Jr. High and High School. There is a lot of pride when it comes to being
a Miami East Viking! Thanks to the elementary students that participated and to Mr. Weddle for

This marks the Sixteenth annual Staff Appreciation recognition evening at Miami East. The
Miami East Athletic Department strives to stress the principle of the student/athlete. With that in mind
this year’s varsity seniors on the boys’ basketball team, cheerleading squad, girls’ basketball team,
swimming, men’s & women’s wrestling teams have been asked to select the staff member that made
the biggest difference in their lives.
Making the selections was a difficult task. This year’s seniors would like to thank the entire staff
at Miami East for their efforts and time in ensuring that they are prepared for future success. From
getting them to school safely in the morning, to providing them with warm meals at lunch, for helping
them as they first began to read right up to when they are preparing for college and beyond the staff at
Miami East has been instrumental in helping them to become a success.
