The Lady Roslyn Lyons Gallery

The ORT Braude Academic College of Engineering in Karmiel is committed to vigorous

involvement in Israeli society as a whole and Northern Israel in particular. One of the

ways in which we uphold this commitment is by producing ongoing art exhibitions at

The Lady Roslyn Lyons Gallery on our campus. The gallery’s exhibits have enabled us to

introduce trends in modern art to the general public for over 20 years.

This exhibit, “From There to Here”, is the result of a cooperative venture between our

college and Aliyah organization Nefesh B’Nefesh, which launched its Go North Program

in 2009 to encourage Olim to settle in northern Israel. Since its establishment Go

North has provided resources, support and assistance to more than a thousands Olim

from North America and the UK, to make the transition to their new lives in Northern

Israel.

For Olim artists, art is a form of self expression that allows them to cope with the

challenges they meet as they build their new lives in Israeli society. Creating art helps

them adapt more easily to their new culture, language and societal values.

This exhibition showcases choice works of 15 Olim artists who live in Northern Israel, in

a range of artistic expression: photography, painting, installations, crewel work and more.

This is the first collaborative exhibition of its kind between Nefesh B’Nefesh and the

ORT Braude Academic College. Through this gallery, the college is happy to be able to

provide a stage, and a venue, for Nefesh B’Nefesh Olim artists and support them as

they integrate into Israeli society.

המכללה האקדמית להנדסה אורט בראודה כרמיאל שמה בראש מעינייה את

מעורבותה בחיי החברה בישראל בכלל ובצפון הארץ בפרט. אחד הכלים החשובים

להשגת מטרה זו הוא הגלריה ע”ש ליידי רוזלין ליונס הפועלת במכללה מזה כ-20

שנה ומציגה לקהל הרחב את המגמות החדשות בתחום האמנות המודרנית.

תערוכה זו, הזוכה לכותרת “משם לכאן”, הינה תוצאה של שיתוף פעולה בין המכללה

לבין ארגון העלייה “נפש בנפש”.

בשנת 2009 ייסד הארגון פרויקט “עולים לצפון” המעודד ומסייע לעולים חדשים

הבוחרים להתיישב בצפון הארץ. מאז הקמתו, הפרויקט הצליח להעניק סיוע ליותר

מאלף עולים חדשים מצפון אמריקה ובריטניה, להתיישב ולהתבסס בצפון הארץ.

בשביל האמנים העולים החדשים, האמנות משמשת כלי ביטוי חשוב ביותר ועוזרת

להם בהתמודדות עם מכלול האתגרים הניצבים בפניהם בחייהם החדשים. בעזרת

האומנות הם מתאקלמים ביתר קלות בתרבות חדשה עם שפה זרה וערכים חדשים

עבורם.

בתערוכה זו מוצגות עבודות נבחרות של 15 אמנים עולים חדשים הגרים בצפון הארץ

במגוון רחב של תחומים וביניהם: צילום, ציור, מיצבים ואומנות לסוגיה.

זו התערוכה הראשונה מסוגה עבור ארגון “נפש בנפש” והמכללה האקדמית אורט

בראודה. בעזרת הגלריה, המכללה שמחה לתת לארגון ולעולים שבטיפולו במה

שתפתח עבורם דרכים ושבילים חדשים להשתלבותם בחברה הישראלית.
