Whether it’s the houses and flats we call home, the workplaces in which we earn a crust, the shops and leisure facilities where we splash our hard-earned cash or the transport infrastructure that allows us to glide seamlessly between them all, the built environment is an inescapable and vital part of all our lives.

That’s why MIPIM UK is such an important part of the British business calendar – bringing together the architects, developers, builders, financiers and policymakers who are shaping the world around us so that we can all benefit.

This year’s event – the sixth time the UK has hosted its very own MIPIM – comes at a particularly opportune time for the real estate industry. Because, as we prepare to leave the European Union later this month, I want to unleash the productive power of every city, town, village and hamlet in the United Kingdom, and to do that I need your help.

I need you to help us build homes, railways, stations, digital infrastructure and more besides, levelling up communities right across England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales, giving everyone in this country access to the kind of infrastructure they need in order to thrive and to grow.

That’s why I’ve already pledged £3.6 billion to support more than 100 towns across the country, confirmed that we will fund the Northern Powerhouse Rail link between Leeds and Manchester, and set out plans to bring gigabit broadband to homes in every corner of the land.

But it not just enough to provide funding, I also want these places to have more power for themselves in making important local decisions. That is why council leaders and communities will be given greater powers similar to those already enjoyed in London and Manchester. This gives you as investors and business leaders confidence that key decisions will not get held up at a national level - you can get to work with your local partners straight away.

So, as we embark upon our post-Brexit future – a future bursting with potential – events like this have a huge role to play in showing investors from around the world the kind of exciting opportunities on offer here in the UK.

Despite the naysayers we are still the number one destination for investment in Europe, and there has never been a better time to join in. We are ready to do business with you, and to build the future of the UK together. Enjoy the conference.

• Fen Court with Generali • 22 Bishopsgate with Lipton Rogers • Broadgate with British Land • 70 St Mary Axe with Nuveen

Fen CourtDescribed as “one of the most well-crafted buildings the City has seen for some time” by the Guardian, Fen Court is a new landmark office development in the City of London’s eastern cluster. Designed by architect Eric Parry on behalf of Generali Real Estate, Fen Court is crowned by the largest rooftop public space in the square mile: an exceptional 2,800 sq m roof garden with planting inspired by English country gardens and a perimeter walk that gives vistas of London’s skyline. Prior to its construction, development manager CO --RE pre-let the building to M&G Investments as their new global headquarters. Winner of the OAS City Building of the Year Award, Fen Court is a critical, commercial and public success, which has been cited by the City of London’s Planning and Transportation Committee Chairman as an exemplar for the future of the Square Mile.

22 Bishopsgate22 Bishopsgate is a new type of workplace. A 1.275m sq ft building designed specifically to benefit and support its diverse, connected community. With collaboration, choice, culture and creativity at its heart, 22 Bishopsgate will be a building with soul; a place to connect, be inspired, learn, share and enjoy. Designed by PLP Architecture for AXA IM - Real Assets and Lipton Rogers Developments, it will be the tallest tower in the heart of the City of London upon completion. The building has been designed with the users’ wellbeing in mind. At 22 Bishopsgate, art and craft, higher ceilings, increased daylight control, better fresh air and amenities combine to support individuals, in traditional and new ways of working. Outside of the office area, approximately 100,000sf is dedicated to facilities that aim to improve the everyday experience for the building’s users and wider public.

BroadgateBroadgate is a mixed-use campus comprising offices, restaurants, retail and leisure set across four landscaped squares. Covering 32 acres, it is central London’s largest pedestrianised area. Broadgate connects the creative, tech-focused communities of Spitalfields, Shoreditch and Old Street with the City. Broadgate has a Vision for a 10 year period to transform the Broadgate neighbourhood into a world class, seven day, mixed use Central London destination. This tour will give exclusive insight into the new buildings under construction at Broadgate and the future of this landmark campus in the City.

70 St Mary Axe70 St Mary Axe is a 24-storey, 438,000 sq ft office building at the junction of the City of London, Shoreditch and Spitalfields, developed by Nuveen Real Estate and designed by architects and engineers, Foggo Associates. Conceived as a new icon for London, 70 SMA has a distinctive, elegantly curved shape, making it instantly recognisable. Curved glass and anodised aluminium fins wrap over the top of the structure and sweep down to the building’s base. At ground level, the building makes an impact with landscaped public realm and an impressive double height reception space, featuring an exposed concrete core which houses the main reception desk, a range of bespoke furniture and rugs, complemented with a curated playlist and a reception concierge service. Tenants signed up to date include innovative, US-founded co-working space Hana, created by CBRE, and US law firm Sidley Austin.

The UK’s most talked about citiesOver 300 global city indices benchmark cities on almost every aspect of urban life. These rankings influence investment, where talent clusters and our travel choices. However, there is little comparative research into the impact digital messaging is having on cities as brands. In a context of rapid change and technological disruption, cities are consolidating their leading positions over entirely new, sometimes digital-only conversations, creating powerful new opportunities for place branding. Responding to this, ING has reordered the ranking of cities by their share of the online conversation and provided further analysis on which cities punch above their weight and which show the most potential for increasing their digital profiles. The ING Global Digital Visibility Series, which includes the special UK city edition for MIPIM UK, is designed to help city policy and place makers understand how online presence impacts a city’s brand.
