Front Cover.By looking at other various Indie music magazines, such as NME I took ideas as they inspired me in my work, and I could then relate what I was doing to the professional magazines, this made me more confident in how I did my three pieces as I could refer to a professional magazine.

The main picture dominates the page, this will be the first thingthat appeals to the audience as it’s the main story. The eye contact shows direct address so the audience think that the image is looking at them in hope that they will buy it. These images are both in the centre of the page so it’s the main focus, I thought that this was a good idea to put it in the middle of the page as you can situate other things around the image and it is still the main thing on the page, nothing has been put covering the images face as the face shows an expression, in this case it shows hardfaced, this has connotations of being Indie.

Cover lines are situated at the side of the page away from the image so it doesn’t take over the page and the image is still the main thing on the page, the cover lines are gate keeping and don’t give to much away so the reader will want to open to magazine and buy it so they can read the full story. Both of the images do this, I used the idea as it makes the magazine look more professional and tidy rather than the cover lines just being scattered everywhere.

The main cover line, shows us a story but doesn’t tell us in detail about it, it almost gives us a type of cliffhanger so we want to go and buy the magazine, it’s the biggest text on the front of the magazine apart from the masthead. It is also in the same position as the NME main cover line, in the centre and not taking to much of the space of the image.

Information banner at the bottom shows us stories that are in the magazine, that are not as important as the others, in my case I have put artists that feature in the magazine. I copied NME but changed the colours to make it my own.

The mastheads are very similar, as I have used the same colour scheme, but as my title is larger than NME it stretches to fit the whole width of the magazine. The image then stretches over the masthead on both, which cuts some of the title out but not as much so we cant

see what its saying.

The bar codes are situated in different places, as the way that the NME magazine have situated theirs does not look good in mine so therefore I had to move it to make it look better on my magazine.
