My Tools
A curriculum can be organized either horizontally or vert ically. Write samples of them on the illustrat ions.
Horizontal Articulation
It means that the direction of the curriculum
elements is sideway.
For example, the topic is about the decimals. It
is horizontally to place value and into different
operations.
My Analysis
1. Examine the Basic Education Curriculum. What aspects do you
want to modify. Why?
In Elementary Education Curriculum, I want to modify the HELE
subject. Why? Because as I noticed on the current generation of the
learners, this subject became boring especially when there is no
activ ity involve or the topic is uninterested. It needs more
transformation to involve the students into collaborative and
interactive approach to learning. This subject is fun and useful but
seasonal.
2. What curriculum models do you prefer? Why?
Vertical Articulation
Vertical Articulation means
that the curriculum element
follows a vertical design. It
focuses the process on the
said topic.
I will choose Learner-Centered Design because among the
progressive educational psychologists, the learner is the center of
the educative process. This emphasis is very strong in the elementary
level, however, more concern has been placed on the secondary
and even the tertiary levels.
My Reflections/ My Insights
Subject- Centered Design
Model
This model focuses on the
content of the curriculum.
Problem- Centered Design Model
Draws on social problems,
needs,
Content cuts across subject
boundaries and must be
based on the needs,
concerns and abilities of the
students.
My Portfolio
Make an illustration of any three of the curriculum design
models. Be sure to incorporate the salient features of the design.
Learner- Centered Design Model
It focuses on the learners, their needs and the learnings
that they should acquire from the teachers and from their
activ ities and experiences as well.
What do I like
best in these
curriculum
designs?
