”People fear losing cognitive abilities more than death”
Says Sara Qualls, Psychologist, UCCS, in documentary “Planning for Hope”. We have been attending FTD
conferences since my diagnosis in 2003. We have been impressed by those of you researching FTD with such
passion. Thank you for all of your work. Below is a link to view “Planning for Hope” It will be aired for 2n on
Public Television; see our web site for scheduling. Feel free to use this copy with patients, families or support
groups. My legacy, the film’s mission, will be to get people with just an inkling that something is different
with their thinking to talk to their doctors. We need to listen to our bodies, and then the doctors need to
listen to and believe us. Doctors often say that we should wait a year to see if there is further decline.
Waiting for symptoms to get worse has huge risks. People can get fired, lose their homes, and families can
be torn apart. That is not to say the researchers are wrong, the denial is just too strong. My passion, with the
film completed, is to survey patients to find the very, very early signs of this terrible disease. We hope to help
patients find ways to compensate longer and will help keeping them from financial disaster.

”Planning for Hope” captures some of the most brilliant and passionate researchers exploring early
diagnoses for this rare disease. Frontotemporal Disease or Dementia (FTD) has been misdiagnosed as early-
on-set Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative diseases. People as early as their 40’s, at the peak of their
careers, and in the prime of their lives become devastated.
In this poignant documentary, families have stepped forward
to share their heart-wrenching stories of perpetual grieving
and caring for their loved ones amidst financial struggles.
Professionals discuss Financial and Estate planning for
FTD victims and their families. Today, there is no single
known cause, treatment or cure. However, the film
encourages hope with science moving at such a fast pace. See free links below- just hit Ctrl Click on them:
