The FUCHS Lubricants R.A.C.

Historic Asphalt Rally Championship Roger Matthews and Tom Marrott have been confirmed as overall champions in the inaugural FUCHS Lubricants R.A.C. Historic Asphalt Rally Championship. Following two more maximum scores in the double header round on the Historic Rally Isle of Man (15–17 September), Matthews and Marrott (Ford Escort Mk1) now have a perfect season score and cannot be beaten in the sixth and final round, the Cheviot Stages in Otterburn. The FUCHS Lubricants R.A.C. Historic Asphalt Rally Championship was new for 2016 and is organised by the Roger Albert Clark Rally Motor Club as a dedicated asphalt championship for all categories of historic stage rally cars.

Matthews and Marrott have enjoyed an exemplary season in their freshly-built Ford Escort Mk1, taking five maximum scores across the first five rounds to make them overall champions. Belgians Christophe Jacob and Isabelle Regnier currently hold 2nd overall but could be edged back to 3rd in the battle of the Escort Mk2’s if Roger Moran and Ashley Trimble contest the final round. “We’d like to congratulate Roger Matthews and Tom Marrott for becoming the first champions in the FUCHS Lubricants R.A.C. Historic Asphalt Rally Championship. They have had a perfect season to date and are worthy champions”, said Championship Manager, Colin Heppenstall.

Great season for

Adam Morgan in the BTCC FUCHS sponsored driver Adam Morgan crowned a successful season in the British Touring Car Championship with three more top 10 finishes to secure 9th place in the ultra-competitive series. “A season with two wins is a big step forward and we will come back stronger than ever in 2017”, reflected Adam, with the season at an end. Adam finished 9th in the overall driver’s standings and 3rd in the Independents’ Championship for the third year running. The team finished 6th in the HiQ Teams Championship and runner’s up in the Independent Teams Trophy. “We can look back on this season with a lot of pride. Two wins is an excellent effort, and with five podiums, 18 top 10 finishes, we have proved to be one of the leading teams in the BTCC. We have tasted success, learnt lessons, improved our skills, and we aim to bounce back even stronger in 2017”, said the team’s Commercial Manager Norman Burgess.

Marcus Hudson on great form at the

wheel of his new kart MSA LKRC 250 National Championship* – Round 6, was the first meeting with Marcus’ new Kart manufactured by HRK. He only held test runs a week earlier to get a base setting for the track and to familiarise himself with the new kart. Marcus Hudson showed his claws and finished 3rd in heats 1, 2 and 3. For the final, Marcus Hudson lined up 3rd on the grid. The sun was out but on the dummy grid it started to rain and all drivers were using slicks. The lights went out and all drivers pushed on in the first corner but another kart came around the outside forcing Marcus into 4th position. Struggling for the first five laps with grip, the track was damp in some corners and the tyres weren't up to temperature. Finally the tyres came in and he was able to push and catch the driver in 3rd. A good run onto the straight on lap eight following the slip stream saw Marcus pull out and pass to regain 3rd before the braking zone. Some good laps then followed, enabling him to increase his lead by 2.4 seconds giving him a 3rd place finish on the podium. “I’m very impressed with the new kart. After this round I have moved into 2nd in the 2016 MSA LKRC 250 National Championship standings”, said Lucas. *The top level of 250 karting in the UK

Steve Brown steals first

Belgium podium FUCHS Lubricants supported rally crew Steve Brown and his co-driver Paul Stringer, who turned near-disaster into something of a triumph on the Hemicuda Rally which was held on 8–9 October in the Flanders International Rally Challenge (FIRC). Still in the 1300cc Nissan Micra they’ve used throughout this campaign, Brown and Stringer were looking forward to the penultimate round of their challenge at the Belgian based championship after their giant-killing exploits on the Manx rally in September. The 1300cc Nissan Micra Kit Car is at a significant power disadvantage to its class rivals but Brown has managed to get the most from the machine. He will head back across the Channel in a confident mood to tackle over 100 km of closed public roads in the North West of Belgium.

Despite landing in a welcoming ditch on the very first stage, Brown said: “We were going well right from the start line, then I made a schoolboy error – I didn’t cut the corner enough! That threw us to the outside of the bend where we got on a gravel patch and slid off into the inevitable Belgian ditch. The spectators got us back on the road after a sweaty and exhausting four and a half minutes of heaving and tugging.” For the remainder of the event, the pair battled on to such good effect that they crossed the finish line in Koekelare, earned their first Belgian podium and took 3rd in their up-to-1600cc class in their 1300cc Nissan. Brown can now look forward to the final round of the FIRC in November. “We can seal 3rd place in the two-wheel-drive category at the 6-hour Van Kortrijk Rally, so I’m really looking forward to getting back behind the wheel again. It’s been a really fantastic year over in Belgium and hopefully we can end the season on a high.”

Gold Cup FUCHS Silkolene saw off the 2016 road racing season as it finished at the Oliver’s Mount circuit where they are proud to be a circuit partner. Oliver’s Mount road race circuit is England’s only natural ‘road’ race track. Situated just five minutes from Scarborough in North Yorkshire, the races have been likened to a ‘miniature TT by the seaside’. The final event of the season was the Oliver’s Mount Gold Cup and what an event it proved to be! A host of the biggest names in riding from past and present assembled, preparing for the weekend’s big event. Not least was Italian multi-time world champion Grand-Prix motorcycle road racer Giacomo ‘Ago’ Agostini. Ashleigh Morris – Scottish BMW

Compact Cup Ashleigh Morris, aged 23, born and raised in Caithness (North Scotland) first started racing following a session with Gordon Shedden (three-time British Touring Car Champion) in 2013 at Knockhill Racing circuit, who suggested that she got into racing, recommending the Scottish BMW Compact Cup. After meeting Ashleigh, FUCHS were so impressed with her driving and commitment that a product sponsorship deal was agreed in 2015. Alongside her racing obligations Ashleigh also actively helps the FUCHS technical team by participating in the developmental testing program, sending regular oil samples for them to analyze and giving them priceless field research. Now entering her third full season of the Scottish BMW Compact Cup, Ashleigh is raring to go! “With the season now complete, I have finished 8th overall in the Scottish BMW Compact Cup Championship. I did what I set out to do – top 10 results achieved. I really do think positively about my end result!”, she said. “What we have achieved is still massive for a team who didn’t even have a fully built car until only a few days before the first event in April 2016!”

Cyril Raymond under the spotlight!

The 23-year-old driver fought very hard this season with his involvement in the FIA World Rallycross Championship RX Lites, a sporting world that the young driver discovered with each Grand-Prix. As with the FIA World RX, these races took place on the same tracks with the same format as the top category but split into seven Grand-Prix races. The season started in May at the legendary racetrack of Hockenheim (Germany) and ended in Riga (Latvia). The 15 drivers of the RX Lites must prove their performance at the wheel of the same car, a 4-wheel-drive Ford Fiesta, equipped with a 310 hp atmospheric engine. “The two rounds of each Grand-Prix were six laps. You must be very reactive and strategic in these sprint races which took place on natural ground and a tarmac track. It was my first season and I had everything to learn”, explained Cyril Raymond. The FUCHS driver had to fight tough battles on each Grand-Prix to confirm his performances and won the title, despite being faced with experienced drivers and also the world vice-champion title winner, Norwegian Thomas Bryntesson.

Buzzing from his new trophy, Cyril won his wild card to participate at the penultimate Grand-Prix of the FIA World Rallycross Championship Supercar at the Estering racetrack (Germany). The French driver is very enthusiastic about facing the 30 high-level world drivers such as Sébastien Loeb, Petter Solberg and Timmy Hansen, among others. Already contacted by prestigious teams for 2017, Cyril will aim to race in the Supercar class. “We are going to carry out our tests over the next few days. My goal will be to enter into the top 5 in Supercar, next season”, he said.

A fantastic 2016 SuperM title

for Lance Isaacs After a three-year absence, Lance Isaacs returned on 28 August 2016 to Port Elizabeth’s 2.4 km-long Aldo Scribante racetrack for the final two races of the SuperM Championship season. They turned out to be memorable races for Lance, claiming his first South African Motorcycle title in his illustrious career with twelve consecutive wins in SuperM. “As a proud ambassador for FUCHS Silkolene, from a motorcycle engineer’s point of view, we have not had a single mechanical failure on any of our rolling parts. This is testament to the quality of lubricants that are being supplied by FUCHS Silkolene”, he said. “The horsepower gained just from using the engine oils was impressive enough and we have had no clutch issues either. We use the rest of the products, including the cleaning products which we utilize on the race bikes as well as on my bicycle”, explained Lance. “As the BMW race team we strive to partner with brands that are passionate about quality, performance and consistency. I am thrilled to say that we have found this with the partnership in FUCHS Silkolene. Here’s to a continued long and fruitful relationship and many more championship wins.”

“Now that the SuperM title is in the bag, I am going to push as hard as possible in the Super-GP class to see how we can get closer to the leadership board.” The last round of the 2016 Super-GP will take place in Delmas at the Red Star raceway.

Australia

Joe Akroyd lands two podium finishes

at Manx GP The motorcycle racer, Joe Akroyd, had an extremely successful race in the prestigious IMO Manx Grand-Prix which took place in the Isle of Man between the end of August and beginning of September. After 150 miles of racing around the Mountain Course, the 27-year-old finished with two podiums on only his second trip to the famous competition. This year, Joe raced for the Australian Oilee Racing, a Victoria dealer of Warrian Enterprises who exclusively used FUCHS Silkolene products. “We met Joe last year at the Manx GP and we were impressed by the way he goes about the business. So, we invited him to ride in Australia at the International Island Classic which takes place each January at Philipp Island. This event is the third largest motorcycling event in Australia”, said Lee Allen, team owner. “For the IMO Manx GP, Joe rode an Oilee Racing GSXR 600 Suzuki, which was an ex Tyco Suzuki bike, for the first time. The fantastic efforts from all the team and the great support once again from Warrian Enterprises, FUCHS Silkolene along with their UK colleagues really helped and we are so proud to share Joe's success of two podium finishes! I believe this is the trophy awarded to the best performance by a rider competing in both the Junior and the Senior who didn't win.

In a gruelling event where man and machine wrestle with the tricky mountain course, FUCHS Silkolene lubricants and products have done us proud again. Top class technology from top class people.” Thanks to his two 3rd places this year at the Manx GP, Joe has been invited to race in the 2017 Isle of Man TT. “It is only my second time racing. The TT track requires so much learning. We are doing 170 mph through the streets and it is a lot to get your head around so I was aiming at a top 10 result in both the Junior and Senior/Lightweight Classic TT races. Finally, I finished 3rd in both of them. What a great achievement.”
