Capacitive or Resistive solution The power of resistive technology.Capacitive touch panel technology is often sought after due to its capability to handle dual touch activities such as zoom, rotation and the light touch feeling or flush surface modern look. Fujitsu resistive panels can offer all those features, without losing the advantages of resistive technology.

Hereunder an overview which features are handled by capacitive and resistive technologies:

Here are the features of both solutions:

The controller is directly bonded on the touch panel FPC.

■ Less EMI sensitivity due to a closer location of the IC to the touch panel. ■ Routing the flex cable into the system might be more complicated. ■ The COF Solution is, in most cases, cheaper than the COB solutions.

The controller is mounted on a PCB. ■ Since the flex cable has no IC bounded on it, routing the cable is easier. ■ In case the IC or panel is damaged it is easy to just replace either the IC or the panel which is not the case with a COF solution.

The COB capacitive panels are made of Film/Film sensor laminated layer on a top Cover Glass. The controllers are based on weida chip.The standard interface is USB, but other options can be proposed.They are designed for a wide range of applications including factory automation, tool machine control, measuring and medical devices as well as kiosk vending machines or point of sales devices.

As they come in standard sizes, they can be used for small quantity applications.

Industrial Chip on Flex series (COF)(Partner product)

Automotive capacitive touch panels

Fujitsu proposes the COF series in collaboration with our long time business partner. The COF series are mainly based on EETI an IIitek controllers. The touch panel itself is designed based on film/film sensor laminated cover glass. The standard versions are supplied with USB interfaces, but other interfaces can be proposed.Sizes are available up to 31 inches

The features and customizations possibilities are the same as for the COB version.

Fujitsu designs and develops customized touch panels solutions for the automotive market. Those PCAP (Projected capacitive) automotive panels are based on glass sensor technology.They are tailored to the needs of each customer.Custom sizes can be made up to 10.4 inches.

The front cover can be manufactured in various materials and shapes and are often used as the complete front design for car info-tainment devices.

The integration of capacitive switches on the side of the active area, transparent icons with LED back light, as well as cut-outs for mechanical buttons or USB ports are also part of the possibilities.The controller can come as a chip on Flex (COF) or can be assembled on the PCB (COB).The view area has a typical transparency of 90%.

This line of product benefits from the long experience of Fujitsu in the car industry, on the development and on the production sides where the process quality control meets the top requirement.

Fujitsu Resistive touch panels

Resistive touch panels still offer features which are not available in capacitive technology.

The Fujitsu resistive panel have a light touch feeling similar to the capacitive panel and are able to operate in dual touch mode enabling zoom, rotate, flip page etc.

They are not sensitive to water drops, sprays or EMI and operate on all input methods such as pen, finger, gloves, in all conditions with-out the need of any specific tuning.

So if your device will be used in many types of environments (Factories with the use of liquid spray, EMI issues, electric sparks, gloves etc…) the resistive panel remain one of the most flexible solutions. It simply always works.

4-Wire resistive light touch and dual touch resistive panel

Fujitsu’s cost efficient 4-wire touch panels standard range offer remarkable features: ■ A single touch panel can be converted to a dual touch panel. ■ The light touch series, also called “feather touch”, respond to 0.02-0.5N force. ■ For gesturing functionality like pinch, expand, zoom/ rotate and flick/swipe. ■ The light touch panel combines the high sensitivity of a capacitive panel with the characteristic features of a resistive panel; easy

integration and multiple input options (finger, pen, glove, etc.).

■ The 4-wire touch panels can be manufactured in 3.8 to 22 inch and handle up to 1 million touches with an operating temperature

from -5⁰C to +60⁰C and storage from -30⁰C to +70⁰C. ■ The 4-wire technology comes in an anti-glare finish to avoid the mirror effect. The standard transparency for these touch panels is

80%. The technology allows pen and finger inputs which make the touch panels suitable for tablets that make use of pen writing, cash registers and many other applications.

■ The 4-wire panels can also be offered in customized sizes and support design options, such as flush surface (flat and stylish surface).

Standard from the shelf automotive panel

Fujitsu’s resistive automotive film/glass touch panels are designed for finger operated applications and are able to handle 1 million finger touches. The panels are manufactured from 3.5 up to 10 inch and are able to operate from -30°C to +85°C, the storage temperature is -40°C to +95°C.

The light touch version is ideal for dual touch gesture functions like zooming or page flipping.

Sunlight visibility is crucial when it comes to touch panel solutions in automotive applications.Fujitsu has developed low reflection technologies based on AR coating or polarization for better sunlight visibility.

Touch panel transparency is available up to 90% with a reflection of just 3%. Customization in dimensions, optical quality or flush surface design is possible.
