With a tuition assistance grant from the Fulcrum Foundation, and financial assistance from their parish and school, what once seemed impossible is actually happening. The Youngs are able to send their 5 school-aged children to St. Anthony School—a school that helps open the door to a bright future.

Now, the Youngs can’t imagine their children not going to Catholic school. The girls are growing in faith, love and knowledge every single day at St. Anthony. That foundation is certainly the very best any parent could want for their children.

mEEt tHE YounGS:

Joshua Young is an EMT and his wife Vanessa is a homemaker. Trinity (age 12), Kaleena (age 11), Nicolette (age 9), Euraya (age 8) and Samia (age 6) attend St. Anthony School. Izraell (age 4), can’t wait to join her sisters at St. Anthony and proudly wears the school uniform when she goes to her local preschool!

The Fulcrum Foundation worked with the principal, Mrs. Carol Mendoza, to leverage support through an Assistance to Schools in Need grant to fund a much needed roof repair and a Building Diversity and Inclusion grant to fund professional development to increase diversity and cultural awareness. Amici, Fulcrum’s young professionals group, gathered dozens of volunteers to complete painting and landscaping projects.

Working together to leverage support for schools like St. Bernadette is good for kids and families, builds up the Church and strengthens communities.

mEEt St. BErnadEttE ScHool:

St. Bernadette Catholic School has been a hallmark of the Burien community for 55 years. Principal Carol Mendoza has this school moving in the right direction, growing this diverse school community and providing a safe and welcoming learning environment for its students.

St. Bernadette Catholic School is at the very heart of the community in Burien, WA. The campus bustles with school activities, CYO athletics, parish events and so much more. All this activity takes a toll on the buildings and grounds—and maintaining an excellent and safe learning environment comes at considerable cost.


Fulcrum was honored to support one of Mr. Beall’s most recent innovations—stability balls. When kids are focused on balancing their bodies—like when they are sitting on a stability ball—their brains are primed to learn and to process new information. This is especially important for kids with learning differences.

No teaching tool works all the time, but after using the stability balls for a year, Mr. Beall has noticed that many of his students are more focused and for longer periods of time. This sustained focus allows them to be even more successful academically, to develop self-confidence, and boost self-esteem.


Mr. Charlie Beall knows that all kids deserve a great education, and he works hard every day to keep that promise for children with diversified learning needs at Kennedy Catholic High School. Mr. Beall is always seeking new and innovative ways to reach and inspire his students.

Mr. Charlie Beall is the chair of the Blessed Mother Teresa Program at Kennedy Catholic High School. The Blessed Mother Teresa Program reaches students with a wide range of learning needs and abilities through a differentiated curriculum and teaching methods. Mr. Beall has been teaching at Kennedy for 11 years.
