Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to term three. As usual this will prove to be a busy term with lots of things happening to enhance the learning for our students. I trust that everyone had a good two week break and we are all keen to get things moving along. From my class visits on Monday it was evident that the students had settled straight back into the swing of things as is expected here at Fulham North Primary School.

CROWS VISIT The Adelaide Football club will be visiting this Friday to deliver their Growing with Gratitude Program. The program talks about 5 habits of happiness and fits very well into our Positive Education curriculum. The whole school will be involved in the program during the assembly before recess and all classes from R – 2 will be involved in a coaching clinic after recess which includes, kicking, tackle bag and relay games. Claude the Crow will also make a guest appearance.

are also pleased to announce that Kristian Rawlings will be taking on the role of Deputy Principal for Term 3. AUSSIES WATCH OUT FOR MOZZIES Australia’s Chief Medical Officer has issued an important warning to those travelling to Brazil for the 2016 Rio Olympics – that travellers MUST protect themselves from mosquitoes. Brazil is experiencing a Zika virus outbreak in addition to the presence of yellow fever, dengue and chikungunya. These dangerous viruses are spread by mosquitoes, and Zika can also be sexually transmitted. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant are particularly at risk, especially from Zika, which can lead to severe birth defects such as microcephaly. These women are advised to defer their travel. If you must travel then you should see your doctor for further advice. Travellers can help protect themselves from yellow fever by getting vaccinated at least 10 days before arriving in Brazil. However, there are no vaccines for Zika, dengue or chikungunya. Your best defence against these viruses is to take precautions to prevent mosquito bites, including protective clothing and heavy duty mosquito repellent. For more information on mosquito-borne illnesses and travel to the 2016 Olympics, visit www.health.gov.au/rio2016 PARKING I have received a number of complaints of late from local residents who are being inconvenienced by parents who are not being considerate when parking their cars at pick up and drop off time. Some parents are blocking driveways and preventing residents from accessing their property. Parents are also parking in front of residents bins in the mornings, which means the full bins are not being emptied, due to lack of access. As you can imagine all of these scenarios are very irritating to the local residents. I have also noticed parents parking in the bus zones on Cheadle street. Please be aware of your responsibilities as a driver and ensure that you park correctly and legally when picking up your children. It is important to note that the Charles Sturt Council make regular patrols in our area and parking illegally attracts a $73 fine. FAREWELL I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for your support in my time as Principal and for the good wishes in my new temporary role. I also want to assure you that I will be back as Principal for the 2017 school year. I will also be taking a keen interest in how the school is going and will be involved in the planning and set up for next year. Kind regards, Steve Marshall

CAN YOU HELP?

An event like this takes lots of organising and helping hands! Let your Class Teacher, Front Office staff or Spring Fair Committee member know if you can help in any way.

Class stalls – each class will be responsible for a stall. See your child’s teacher for ways you can help prior to the event. At the event, families may be required to serve at stalls in short, rostered shifts, as well as setting up/packing up.

Donated Auction Items – we are looking for local businesses that would be willing to donate prizes to Auction. Please let us know if you are able to make a donation or if you have any contacts that would be willing to make donations. Small donated goods to stock our stalls will be greatly received (see class teacher or look out for a list of stalls in Term 3).

Stall holders - Local, small businesses are welcome to hold their own stalls, for a small ‘hire’ fee. Let us know if you or someone you know may be interested.

Email : [email protected] Damion and Mandy Linke have built their Karate classes into a well known martial arts club for all in the Barossa area and are now starting out in the Adelaide region. Our goal has always been to create a programme of self defence for both children and adults. Safety is the key issue! Our students will learn to face any person anywhere without the fear of being physically hurt or embarrassed as well as how to avoid being hit! Self confidence, concentration, Improved co-ordination and most of all respect are a big focus. We concentrate a lot on discipline as well as having fun. Under no circumstances do we encourage our students to use what we teach them outside of our class unless they fear for their safety. We believe in today’s society this type of foundation is necessary especially for children so that they can grow up to become responsible adults.
