Monarch Butterfly Grove, the “Butterfly Trees” of Pismo Beach are one of our most beloved attractions. From late October through February, thousands of colorful Monarch butterflies cluster in the limbs of Eucalyptus and Monterey Pines in the area, giving the appearance of yellow and orange leaves. They travel over the Sierra Mountains and west of the Rockies. Some come from as far away as Canada to escape the colder temperatures of the north. For more information on the Monarch Butterfly visit MonarchButterfly.org. The Monarch Butterfly Grove is located half a mile south of Pismo Beach just off Hwy 1. Pismo Beach is a nostalgic California beach town that attracts people from all over the world. Sunbathe in the perfect weather while watching the surfers, or take a stroll along the 1,200 ft. pier. Events such as the annual Classic Car Show and the July 4th fireworks display are both held on or around the pier. No license is required to fish on the pier. However, please check with the local Chamber of Commerce regarding license requirements for all sports activities. Downtown is a perfect place to get a bite to eat and browse through the many interesting shops. Visit the Pismo Beach Chamber of Commerce: (805) 773-4382, 581 Dolliver. ClassicCalifornia.com. Pismo State Beach is California’s only drivable beach. Here you can rent an all-terrain vehicle for a ride on the shoreline and dunes that connect Grover Beach, Oceano & Nipomo. While visiting the Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes there are numerous opportunities for activity. Volunteers and Staff host visitors to the Dunes Center at 1065 Guadalupe St. Guadalupe, which present educational programs and provide docents for hikes and bird walks into the dunes. They offer several walks each week which are open to the public for free. They can also arrange tours for groups or organizations by reservation. Please call (805) 343-2455 for group rates, availability and more information. Welcome to our beautiful Coastal Community! Avila Beach is a must for lovers of sun bathing on warm beaches or dining & shopping. Visit Port San Luis Pier for fishing, people watching and fantastic Central Coast Sailing or Avila Beach Whale Watching. Don’t forget to give yourself time for wine tasting at one of the Vineyards along scenic Sea Canyon or Orcutt road. Be sure to take a leisurely walk on the 1.5 mile Bob Jones Trail. Directions to this fantastic walk are: Take Avila Beach Rd. west, and turn right on Ontario Rd. to the parking area at the trail head. The current section of the trail is paved and provides an easy level walk through the woods along San Luis Obispo Creek to Avila Beach. Also there are mineral springs and spas which are well worth the scenic drive. Encourage the advertising restaurants, shops & activities in this Map with your patronage and comments.
